Posted August 17, 200816 yr Great team performance making Portsmouth look a lot worse than they will prove to be this season. Very enjoyable match to watch. Ratings: Cech 6 - Had little to do except at the end when he saved well. Flapped a few times. Still a brilliant keeper but has lost the aura of invincibility he once had. A Cole 7 - Looks like he might enjoy our transition form athletics to football. Always an option and some good tackles. Bosingwa 8 - Assured debut. Looks tasty. Carvalho 7 - Strong in the tackle as usual from the most improved player on the planet. Terry 8 - Showed yet again that when he's not blubbering like a big baby he's the best centre half in the world. Mikel 6 - Quietly effective. Too quietly effective. Ballack 7 - Still has that weird "heads up" style. Amazing that 2 seasons in England hasn't beaten that out of him. Lampard 7 - Another 50 grand in the bank for Frankie. Deco 9 - Man of the match. He may be a Dico but he didn't Duco the challange today. He hardly hit the Deco once. I would Doco his wages for losing the ball at the end but otherwise world class. (Thanks to Jack for the inspiration). J Cole 8 - Loving it out there. Don't forget your defensive duties though Joe. They are more important than being brilliant. Anelka 7 - Good first touch and intelligent movement. Pity he's French. Scolari 8 - Didn't kiss Clarkey on the lips once. Could there be a problem there? Shook hands with the opposition management team and left the pitch after the match. Could it be he doesn't know how to take the pressure of the players? Otherwise did well.

Otherwise did well. agree with most, but id give mikel and 8. he stopped portsmouth getting anything through the midfield and kept us ticking the entire game. plus, why the dig at lampard? totally uneccesary.

Still, there will be plenty of times Frank saves our arse, maybe he'll be appreciated regardless of the money then. To anyone who was at the game, can you tell me what sort of reception Frank got? August 17, 200816 yr god I've missed your ratings, liam. got back from the game and thought that deco was (relative to lampard) a little hot and cold- he'll be much better, but his presence and intelligence already enhance the side. thought lamps was fantastic, carried on his pre season form.

Earned his money today. didn't think you were, but personally I felt he was better than deco today. doesn't matter really, as the only problem I have with your post is that there was no mention of scolari's megastore chelsea brand attire, and how that transmits negative energy (or something) to the players. oh, also his interviews- very boring, can barely speak english. massive disappointment as this is the area I look to when I want enjoyment out of football. Giving fouls away goes with his job in the team; I thought he broke up any signs of play shown my Harry's boys.

Mikel did his job very well today and sometimes you have to foul to control the midfield. He took a couple of daft shots on goal but his passing out of defence into attack was much better than Makkas used to be. btw we need a good song for Deco quickish. and also .............................. August 18, 200816 yr On anelka's goal.... did deco mean the cross or was it an acident? Hard to be absolutely sure, but I'd say he meant to lob it back in, but that he did shin it a bit. So the intention was there but the execution was a little fortunate. Just add that Mikel was indeed excellent.
