I'll say one thing for Jimmy - no other player in living memory polarised opinion like he did. The fat arse, the wavy arms, the goals that somehow damaged the teams he played for. He always seemed to be a decent guy to me, and popular with his teammates for some reason, given that they saw him at very close quarters - supposedly the acid test when forming an opinion about him.

Possibly (probably) the best keeper who has ever lived - the key difference between us and our rivals in our 2 championship seasons and his absence was the main reason we lost out last season.

Excellent post TBB. I would only quibble with one point which is that the Chelsea veterans formed links with protestent paramilitary groups in Ulster after leaving the forces. I would say that these links were formed while the servicemen were still in service in many cases.

Yes but I didn't believe him. I still think we'll see a fair bit of him in the big games, but I agree with you and expect to see a lot of Mikel as well. I think it'll be Sidwell making the tea this season with Joe laying out the biscuits. I just expect to see him run around a lot scaring the sh*te out of defenders. I wouldn't know where he might fit into any formation but he is the only "Joker in the Pack" that Mourinho seems to tolerate.

It's the "Death of Football" again this season I fear. Your back 5 looks like Mourinho's although most of the rest of us would play Bridge I reckon. Midfield strangulation unit of Makalele, Essien, Lampard, Ballack and Robben One man team Drogba up front Occasional cameos from Joe. Mikel to play lots too assuming he continues to learn. Shevchenko might play if the owner demands it with Makalele out. More of the same then which may well be good enough for our "most winningest" season assuming Cech stays fit.

Disagree with the second and tenth. There is no way in my book that Mikel is better than Makalele, not even close. Shevchenko only getting better is not guaranteed. I like the rest though.

At least it gives us a chance to monitor Rafa's attempt to give himself a chin.
