The Brit
have to say i'm not worried in the slightest...i think he is a good player, but he has yet to justify the hype...kanoute scored nine more goals than him in la liga last season and he's a spurs reject! plus pool's ugly style of play won't suit his style of the ball on the ground
g3.7
everyone will certainly enjoy his penchant for diving, that's for sure.
callista
Depends upon my mood as to whether it bothers me per se. Difficult to say on Torres if he will add to their squad as much as they hope. Here is an article here which talks about his strengths and weaknesses so it's make up your own mind time: Will Torres be a Kop's new God? Frankly, I think he's overpriced but I think the pressure will all be on Benitez. If you look at what Benitez has done since his arrival he has won the CL but done nada in the premiership. During that time he has proven to be very adept at getting his team prepped for European nights but move a match to the weekend and give him premiership competition and he mucks up. He's now got Torres and probably he will spend more cash before he's done but that will not guarantee him anything - Torres is a big gamble, probably the biggest gamble of his career to date. So if he doesn't come good then Benitez may finally come under the kind of pressure he dismisses when Jose's problems are mentioned. He's now in the same boat as Jose and has to produce every game, not give up by Christmas and concentrate on the CL. In the end we can't get concerned about other teams, we just have to try and concentrate on ours. Liverpool still have some way to go to bridge that points gap, Torres may go a great deal of the way to closing it yes but Benitez will have to do the rest. For some reason I have to admit it annoys me more if Liverpool do well than MU in terms of our competition - may be it's because of the CL losses or may be it's because they keep banging on about their bloody history every five minutes - no actually it's both. Liverpool on paper should be an increased threat next year, Torres should add something to them which they did not have before. But then all the top teams should have improved. Alan
I'm not really bothered to be honest. I hear he's overrated and I remember reading that he hasn't scored more than 20 goals in a season in his career. He is young though so he has time on his side, then again he could turn out like Morientes.
sergeyMS
Oh, C`mon........let wait a little........... One thing is for sure, he has nothing to do against John Terry. I think Kuyt can be much more dangerous, because of his strength. Though maybe I`m little underrate Torres. Or maybe it`s imposible to compare Kuyt and Torres - they are players of different styles. But both together do they have any chances to be levelled to Drogba + Sheva. ?????
Gem
Can't say I'm particually bothered. The only affect it has on me is all the press attention it'll get. Booooring.
evissy
Getting Torres is not a sign to get stronger in the EPL. They should have targeted an older British striker that has been good years ago in EPL...oh sorry I forgot, that is what they did year ago and failed miserably. ...no one mentioned Rafa that Sheringham is probably available. icecoolguy22
With the money they have, they are going to sign a big name striker anyway.. I would be more worried if they had Etto or Adriano.. Pressure will be on Raffa, drop out of the title race by March will be unacceptable .

Ale_GC
Well, I'm Spanish and I've seen Torres many times I have to say that he is a very good player, but the truth is that he hasn't scored more than 20 goals in a season. Even though Eto'o hadn't scored more than 20 goals in a season when he played for Mallorca and you all know that he has improved this at Bar?a. Here in Spain press says that Atletico de Madrid is him, so he is alone, he has to "work" all his goals because of the bad quality of the player that he has around. I'm a Bar?a supporter, and if I had to value the play of Torres only seeing the games he plays against Bar?a I would say he is one of the best in the world, because he scores a lot of goals when he plays against us, we can say the opposite when he plays against Real Madrid He needed this tranfer because for example he hasn't played Champions league yet, he need a better team in order to show his quality. But he should think that at Anfield it's very difficult to win the Premiership too. Ah, one thing, he is very bad at shooting penalties!!
Jack
The thing that really bothers me about him is that the Atletico fans sung his name to the same tune we sung "Jan-Fran-Co Zo-La, La-La-La Laaaa-La-La" I think he's a flouncy-haired ponce - an ideal replacement for Bolo Zenden. In general Liverfool only bother me 'cos I hate those cnuts soooo much I feel like a bad person living a bad life (still a possibility). Talking of songs - Gerrald Stevens to the new recruit: "I'd love to come into your rear tonight, Your ass is tight, Fernando."
g3.7
looks like a fee for benayoun is agreed, which IMO is a good replacement for garcia- he'll be a good squad player for them. also, babel, the ajax winger/striker looks likely to go there rather than arsenal, who he was previously linked with. thoughts redrob? with torres, and those two, plus possibly another- you should make a proper challenge. not winning the title might not be a failure, but not challenging would be. Lil' Luis was a favourite do gonna be hard to replace but i do definately like yossi. Dont know what he is like off the ball really and how well he works back but we will see i guess. Think its decent value at ?4-5m. As for Babel, i cant really say too much, watched a bit of dutch football a couple of years back and he looked an excellent prospect then at 18, but havent seen his progress since. There have been some rave reviews around, especially in the euro U21's the other week, so promising. I fully agree with your final sentence, failing to challenge this year will be unacceptable. I have a feeling this will be the end of the shopping spree though, cant see anyone else of any value coming in personally.
loz
I think Benayoun is avery good bit of business for that money - especially when you see the amount of money being paid for the likes of Bellamy, Koumas and Kamara Personally I don't think Liverpool will be mounting a serious title challenge this year. I think the money spent on TOrres could have been spent better as I still think their are too many quality gaps in the Liverpool squad and they would have been better spending that kind of money on two or even three players instead of blowing it all on one striker (having said that they definitely needed a new striker). If they also spend the best part of ?14m on Babel then I think Benitez is a fool. I am not saying that Babel isn't potentially a decent player hwoever I think liverpool's squad would have benefited far more from ?30m not being spent on just two players. Think Pennnant vs Alves, we couldnt afford Alves so we had to settle for a cheaper option, Alves's value has gone up so much since that we would have to pay ?8-10m more than we couldnt afford last time while Pennant is still a decent winger who doesnt score enough. We needed a top striker and i hope we have got one, now we are short of quality wingers, hopefully Babel can fill that gap.

callista
Hell anyone can miss a penalty even our players. Still it did scream "irony" that their two new signings were the ones that failed to score. Seems to be a lot of crap penalty taking going around at the moment....Feyenoord game for instance.

lukasz
I don't rate him. He's been hyped for many years now, but before newly rich Liverpool no big club wanted to splash huge cash on him and that I think says enough. Although not worth that kind of money he's still a good player. We'll see.
canbeas
i think torres will do good for liverpool. don't think he will end up being one of the best players in the premiership this season but do think he will do quite well. certainly an improvement over kuyt (his biggest strength is his work rate and that says a lot) and bellamy (a donkey). don't know about voronin but he's been scoring a lot in the friendlies.
