Under the headlines of him not playing there is no space for the fact he has played non-stop for two years without a break, came back from the confederations cup injured, has had no pre-season to speak of, so it's not strange he's struggling. Mourinho is no idiot, he knows more about Mata than we do and I fully expect in one or two games Juan we'll be back better than ever.

We have two safe-standing areas at IFK Göteborg: lower section is usually full of us oldies who can only manage to sing the odd song and the upper section where you are expected to sing for 90 minutes. Cracking atmosphere. There is also a sitting, singing section where a season ticket is needed and they have a bar with semi decent beer. In the standing areas it's sh*t beer. And naturally the away end is standing.

I posted the same elsewhere on the forum. I think the squad composition will give JM headaches this year, and some disgruntlement come January, but our football director knows best.

I would not put myself in the "fan of defender DL" camp, but the all round defending was too blame for the goal. I'd rather concern myself with the misses at the other end, if we repeat them week in week out this will only be one of many defeats. Expect JM to sort things out by next Saturday.

We spend time and money developing Chalobah, Josh, Clifford, etc and then go out and spend 8 million on Van Ginkel without giving our youngsters a single game. Says it all really. I found it incredible that clubs take youngsters from the likes of Maidstone without parting with a penny. (This thread reminds me of the old registry forum kudos to you fellow posters.)

I find it strange how attention is concentrated solely to the lack of youth getting a chance in PL teams, while the lack of quality "English" managers/coaches working in the PL is completely overlooked. I believe a number of clubs in the reserve/u21 league should be allowed to have a B team in the league structure. How this is determined is another matter and somewhat beyond me as numerous factors would need to be taken into consideration, but one condition would have to be that they have a specific number of English on the coaching staff and must field at least 7 English/British players.

What made me unhappy was having to agree with this tweet from @thisisanfield Is that the rest of the country realising why we didn't want Hodgson as #LFC manager? #hodgsonforengland I know the guy had an injury hit squad and all that and Wiltshire is only half fit, but when the centre backs look your best attacking option something is wrong. It's the belt and braces approach of Chelsea that gets on my tits, sure the lad is a "work in progress", but being around and learning from the talent we've got must be far better than being at Everton. Nor can I see that Everton have guaranteed to play the lad so in fact he could get splinters up there and I for one reckon he would be better off sitting on our bench getting 10-15 minutes each week and playing cup games. As for Torres perhaps he will score 15 goals but against who, Swindon, Brentford or Charlton? And Ba has never looked a shoe in with us. Of course, maybe Jose realises his own limitations and believes that Martínez is far better than him at developing youth and should therefore do the job for him.
