Yes he had 180 odd appearances for us...but i can't help but feel that Anelka wasn't really given the chance he deserved. He was never really played in the middle which is where he is best. Given a straight run of games in the middle I think he could have been the most prolific goalscorer we ever had!

I'm open to the idea of signing Pastore instead of Modric, think we needed more of an attacking midfielder than the deep playmaker everyone makes Modric out to be. BUT the best thing to come out of it would be that we made Spurs look like complete mugs!!!

Would love to sign Vidal!! Can play anywhere on the pitch, works hard and is a good little passer! One of the main reasons for Chile's success recently. I think he'd actually occupy the same are of the pitch as Modric would and if it were a choice between the two, I'd actually take Vidal!

Couldn't we give Aguero £150k and then some perks?...a company car or something? Must say, it would be quite something if we managed to get Aguero, but with a City bid in the pipeline he might just be out of reach, even for us!

Wouldn't this give the players too much power and clubs too little? Why spend £15m on a player when one bad move will see him leave for nothing in 2 years. In terms of transfer fees (a very basic outlook I know, but...) if a Russian, an Arab, or an American billionaire wants to spend £50m on a player in England, i.e brining money into our economy...I have no problems with that!

Think we need to let go of Ballack, Deco, Riccy, Joey and Belletti... Why get rid of players who can still perform for us? Think we could let one striker go to let Sturridge have some game time. Maybe send Josh out on loan to accomodate our 'creative midfielder'. With an increasing number of injuries to our key players and challenging for 4 trophies, I think we need to have a large high quality squad right the way through.

The whole "learnIng from drogs" idea is a bit overrated in my opinion. Yes he'll be able to get some hints and tips from drogba but isn't it our coaching team that should be helping him progress as a player? And with the type of manager we have, who undoubtedly knows drogbas game inside out, avb is probably as useful as drogs himself in terms of learning his trade!

So in buying modric, we're hoping for Josh to come good or lamps to learn a role which he's been clearly uncomfortable with in the past? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Ok, but the other problem I see with his analysis is that he placed Lampard behind the striker, a role which we've seen he isn't really comfortable with (the days when Deco was our deep lying playmaker haha). The reason Modric was switched to a deep-lying role was because Van der Vaart had come in and this was Redknapp's solution to incorporating his best players into the team. Lampard is not Van der Vaart and having him as the link to Torres is something I just don't see working. What we need is a playmaker in the traditional sense, one who can play in the hole! If that's where we play Modric, then I'm all for it, but if we're buying him as a deep-lying playmaker, we're less likely to see Torres banging in the goals like he did for Liverpool. That said I've always been a fan of Van der Vaart and was saying 5 seasons ago that he's the guy we need. At 28, it could be argued that he's at a better age than Modric in terms of brining McEachren through. I'd actually prefer signing him to Modric and he'd be a darn sight cheaper than the £40m-odd being bandied around.

I think people forget that Modric was not always a deep lying playmaker, who's to say he'd play in that position if he came here? I don't think a deep lying playmaker fits into our system with the players we have. Modric would most likely play next to Essien/Ramires or Lampard in the 4-3-3.

Surely our defence is the strongest part of the squad? ESPECIALLY central defence!! We have 4 world class centre backs already!...I don't understand this at all!! There's no way Ivanovic, Terry or Luiz are moving on, so unless we've had a good offer for Alex already I don't see any substance to this!

Very much agree with this...and I can't wait!! I think we'll definitely be getting Modric, Lukaku and De Bruyne this summer. A tricky little right winger would give us the most complete squad in the world I think.
