Didn't think it was wise of Alonso to rotate so heavily in midfield and attack. It's no coincidence that every time Gittens is in the team, we look like a side that was thrown together yesterday. Horrible, timid player. I can't imagine others enjoy playing with him. Complete contrast to when Palmer came on and the energy and drive he immediately provided. Midfield and defence again, just so poor.

City have a good enough squad and team to threaten them, and of course have Haaland. Depends on Maresca not being a fool though.
Rest of us battle for third, we are short in midfield. Had we gotten Alonsos 2 main midfield targets, Wharton and Scott, then I think we challange.
Arsenals defence is just too good though. I appricate a great defence, Joses mark 1 team defending I found enthralling on how they made it an art. Arsenal take great pride in their defence, I respect that.

Last Tuesday, 14th July, was the forum's birthday of 20 years! (Remember the late nights, @loz , on the old Windows Messenger, fighting database errors and going through a million hosting companies)
I don't want to be cringeworthy or sentimental, but just wanted to say Thanks. Thanks to everyone who made the website what it was and those who contributed donations to keep it all here and running.
Social media started and got huge during that time, and we've managed to plod on and keep the proper core fans (with a few exceptions on the way) in one place!
Without you lot, it wouldn't have been online this long. Some rage-quit Chelsea when the new owners took over and were doing their thing, and others found it (and still do) a place to vent.
I can't promise the forum for another 20 years (or maybe even 20 months), but proud of how far this place has come and again, it's all down to you!

Not sure if this has been covered already or not but our midfield situation might be a lot better if Alonso actually had Reece and Lavia in top condition.
I mean much has been said on Mudryk being away from the game for 2 years and needing to be built back up again. Lavia has basically not kicked a ball in 3 years. He needs to be rebuilt as well.
Reece had no time off last summer nor this one, got injured at the world cup and is far from his best.
The Lavia from Southampton and a sharp reece is good enough against many sides. They are just long ways from it. May take months, if not all season, to get there. And that's if they can stay fit.

I think you are right. I'd expect Penders to get the cup games though, as well as no Reece after 90 minutes plus yesterday and Lavia cannot play 2 games so close together.
Maybe he sticks with Cole, Rogers and JP though. Would be safer, though I feel all of Welbeck, Estevao and Quenda need the game time to be more ready when we need to call on them.

Yeah we do not seem a true team yet. Jose's side would have taken a bullet for each other. This Arsenal side are of the same mindset.
