Chelsea 10 April 1920 vs Sheffield Weds

Featured Replies

That's Jack Straw in the dark suit, third row back.

He must be a Sheff Wed fan - I know Hattersley is.

Was it against the law in those days not to wear a hat?

Found this great photo on the BBC site.

chelsea 20s photo

Personally I like the guy near bottom middle who looks a bit like a sailor.

The ones that survived the first world war!

Bluebeard, since you were at the game what was the score, who scored for CFC and what end of the ground was the photo taken.

Bit difficult to say for sure - in the thread title it says it was on 10 April 1920, but on that day I recall we were playing away to Manchester City at Hyde Road. The home match against Sheffield Wednesday was played on 20 March 1920, and it was a 1-1 draw - John Lee got our goal.

The photo was taken along the west side of the ground, as you well know - you were standing next to me at the time!

Well done Bluebeard,I thought I had you there, great memories.Did we go for a beer after the game.

Looks like they are about to break into a chorus of "F*** 'em all"

Great pic, My grandad started going to the Bridge around 1920, he died over 20 years ago now I went to many games with him and learned a lot about the pre-war and post War Chelsea upto the 70's cup winning side, in his opinion when it all started going down hill with all the "new fans" :P
