£13m bid for Willian

Last year we were watching Rangers play CSKA in the UEFA Cup final and there were obviously some stand out players on their ream. I know that werder have some good players, but it seem Diego is off to Juve; however, I also know that Shaktar have a lot of Brazilians on their team that seem to be playing some great football.

Now, my limited ability to watch much of the UEFA cup, and I'm not a youtube resource kind of guy, I was wondering who, if anyone, we should be keeping an eye on this final from Shaktar?

Thanks

Scott

Not from Shaktar but from Aalborg (another CL team, trying to make the connection), I liked Caca, but then I found out he was 26 already...not so high on him anymore.

From Shaktar, haven't seen much, but we've probably all seen Srna put in some good performances for Croatia, and Fernandinho had that fantastic goal in the group stages...the latter is 21 and was Ukraine player of the season last year, may be worth a look at but I think that Dzagoev is rated higher.

I hate looking at these AMF players because I don't want to think about life after Lampard.

Shame Diego will be suspended for the final he would most definitely be the best talent out on the pitch.

Shaktar players to look out for would be Fernandinho thier skipper plays a sort of Lampard like role in midfield and is only 24 so certainly one to keep an eye on.

Also Ilsinho at 23 an up and coming winger looked strong in the semi against Kiev. Both are Brazilian and I'm sure there will be a large interest in them from worldwide clubs during the game.

Not to impressed by anyone in the final really. Srna looked quality and has a very good right foot, but apart from him i dont think anyone on that pitch was anywhere near Chelsea-standard. Could also mention that Srna did have a habit of diving.

Srna was good, I especially liked how it looked like he was having fun on the pitch. I've been seeing him connected with Milan or the Scousers, hope if he goes anywhere it's to Milan I guess.

Only saw the last 25 minutes of the game, but I had to feel Werder were hard done by the referee and linos. Everytime they fashioned out an opportunity it was blown dead for some little tug or shirt pull, or imagined offsides.

Between the commentary and the body language of the Werder players, it definitely didnt feel like the final to a major European cup.

Not that I really want him back but any update regarding the Pizarro situation?

I would assume after the year he had (26 goals was it?) and being a Werder old boy that they will keep him. Obviously he was a free transfer and a disaster while here so please, anything will do. Now, if we could only say the same about Sheva...

I was wondering the same thing. He is still on the Chelsea books, isn't he? He didn't do badly this season, and the club might be pursuaded by this to bring him back next season.

Yeah, he's still getting 20,000 a week from the Bridge.

  • 1 year later...

i thought Willian gave a good account of himself, only 20 and looked very promising imo

Don't want to start a new thread so decided to bump this one.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1387913/Chelsea-prepare-13million-bid-Shakhtar-Donetsks-Willian.html?

Chelsea have made a move for Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Willian.

The Blues are expected to make a £13million bid for the 22-year-old Brazilian as owner Roman Abramovich begins a summer spending spree to improve an ageing squad.

The move will go ahead regardless of whether manager Carlo Ancelotti is sacked or not as Abramovich is desperate to sign the former Corinthians player.

A delegation headed by the Russian billionaire's personal assistant Marina Granovskaia was sent to Donetsk to open talks with Shakhtar this week.

Both clubs are happy for the transfer to completed swiftly as the Ukrainian club have already signed Dentinho from the Brazilian's former club as a replacement and the Blues are wary of Arsenal's growing interest in Willian.

The Gunners are expected to make a bid for Willian if Samir Nasri turns down a new deal at the club.

Frenchman Florent Malouda's is the man likely to make way for Willian, who usually plays on the left.

Top marks for finding a previous post. The kind of effort I admire :D

I think the post that I started a couple months ago about this guy got merged into the random rumours thread. From what I saw of this guy in the CL, I liked his speed, although his size worried me. For that price though I think bringing in another Brazilian prospect to play on the wings or behind the strikers would be a good idea.
