Posted June 20, 200916 yr News of the World CHELSEA are ready to test Liverpool's resolve with a £50million bid for Fernando Torres. Villa's proposed move to Real Madrid has not gone through because Chelsea's bid is £4m higher and is preferred by debt- ridden Valencia. Now Blues owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to take advantage of Liverpool's own money worries by making the sort of offer he hopes Gillett and Hicks will not be able to refuse. It is understood a tentative inquiry was made by a third party in April about how much it would cost to prise Torres away from Anfield. The message from Liverpool at the time was that there was no chance of Torres being sold. Then in May the 25-year-old striker signed an improved deal to 2013. If necessary, Ancelotti and Abramovich will settle for just landing Villa. But if there is even an outside chance of snatching Torres away from Anfield, they will take it. Carlo Ancelotti has already targeted Torres' Spain strike partner David Villa, offering Valencia £35m. Now the Blues boss is ready to make an audacious attempt to unite Villa and Torres at club level. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will do all he can to block the move. But he is worried the huge sum offered by Chelsea could tempt American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks. Liverpool's true financial state will be revealed over the coming weeks and Benitez is beginning to fear the worst. At the end of the season Benitez was hopeful of landing 27-year-old Villa. Now he not only has to face up to Chelsea signing Villa but also targeting Torres. Sounds like more b*llocks but I'd take him of the scousers
June 20, 200916 yr Of course you'd take him. It'd be suicide if they sold him though, it'll never happen.
June 20, 200916 yr Will never happen simple as that, we missed out on him and he will only move to spain from liverpool or a club in italy.
June 20, 200916 yr No way will Torres join us but NOTW sound pretty confident of a deal for Villa. Could we sign Villa? Imagine: Chelsea vs Liverpool Carlo vs Tubby Villa vs Torres ;)
June 20, 200916 yr Personally I like Villa more than Torres, anyway. I don't get the impression he particularly wants to play in England, though.
June 20, 200916 yr Typical sh*t story from a red top paper trying to cause some stir. Yep, no doubt those deluded f**kwits will say "Torres turned ya down in the Summer coz he loves Liverpool like" If Korea decided to nuke Liverpool I'd sit on the bomb as it dropped and laugh my f*cking arse off!!
June 21, 200916 yr From memory wasn't there a similar story doing the rounds 12 months ago about us making a similar bid for Torres? Had about as much credence then as it does now: ie none. Journalists must love this time of year - you can pretty much get away with inventing anything.
June 21, 200916 yr If they were to sell him , they'd NEVER sell him to us , i think they'd rather go out of business .

If it wasnt for the fact that Torres is proven in England, I would prefer Villa too

Journalists must love this time of year - you can pretty much get away with inventing anything. About inventing anything, can I "invent" one? What do you guys think of Kenwyne Jones? I don't want to drift too far away from the topic but to me he could be a better buy (and more realistic) than Torres...Cheaper and might me the new Drogba.
June 21, 200916 yr I think even if the liverpool board were to accept our bid for torres he would be very reluctant to come to us, I know Kenwyne Jones is young but i dont think he has the quality to play for us. I think Roque Santa cruz could have been a good buy. His form didnt show it this year but the fact that he managed to bang away 20goals inthe 07/08 season playing in blackburn suggests he could have led the line well for us. I may have strayed from the point of this thread
June 21, 200916 yr If Korea decided to nuke Liverpool I'd sit on the bomb as it dropped and laugh my f*cking arse off!! Anyone else have the final scene from Dr. Strangelove now playing in their head with Gem in place of Major Kong? :) For those who don't know what I'm talking about:
June 21, 200916 yr Anyone who takes the NOTW even remotely seriously needs urgent medical help. From what I recall they have never ever got a transfer story correct
June 21, 200916 yr Anyone else have the final scene from Dr. Strangelove now playing in their head with Gem in place of Major Kong? For those who don't know what I'm talking about: Exactly what I thought of. Or we could nickname her Enola Gay.
June 21, 200916 yr Or we could nickname her Enola Gay. I bet she'd like that more than being called "Necessary Evil" or the "Big Stink".
June 21, 200916 yr yes Dr Stragelove is exactly what I thought of. Kenwye jones was being mentioned a season or so ago as a replacement for Drogba (who we felt might leave), but I have not seen anything from Jones to make me believe they are like for like players. Torres would never come to us, it'll be another red-top nonsense story so they can turn round in the future and say how Torres' love for Liverpool made him stay even if Chelsea audaciously tried to lure him away with their new-found cash. Because Torres wanted to play for a club with 'istory!
June 21, 200916 yr Anyone else have the final scene from Dr. Strangelove now playing in their head with Gem in place of Major Kong? :P For those who don't know what I'm talking about: Ha! Yep, pretty much how I'd be. Not facing away though, I want to see the terror in their eyes.
June 22, 200916 yr Read somewhere that Rafa concedes it might be hard to keep Torres.(sorry can't access sports sites from office so cant post the link) May have been yet another tabloid making things up but if there's truth in that, we might well see Torres leave Anfield. Might not come to us though.
June 22, 200916 yr how is this thread already on its second page. this deal will never happen, never. concentrate on the possibles; aguero, tevez and co =)
June 22, 200916 yr how is this thread already on its second page. this deal will never happen, never. concentrate on the possibles; aguero, tevez and co =) Well, its just interesting to see how many clubs, including us, are linked with Torres just to test Liverpool's finance (and their owner's greed). Who knows, Torres might not end up to be as "loyal" as some Liverpool fans would like to believe
June 22, 200916 yr Talking about loyalty, wasn't he absolutely loyal to Atletico at one point of time and wanted to finish his career there? Who's to say he wont be as loyal to us in case he joins.
