PloKoon13
I really have no clue who the best keeper in the world is at the moment. Everyone seem to narrow it down to Buffon, Casillas, Cech and Julio César, but Buffon and Casillas haven't been great this year, and Cech has messed up now and again as well. I thought an outside bet like Schwarzer or Given might be a good shout, but I'm really not sure. Any thoughts?
loz
On form over the past 2-3 seasons I would say it is between Casillas and Cesar with Cesar getting the nod. I thought Casillas was decent last seaosn, it was his defence that wasn't and until they spend some money on that they can spend as much as they like on attacking players and they still won't win La Liga or the CL. TomP
It's still Cech in my books. All keepers have a few dodgy matches every now and again. Think of it this way - if Casillas (or any of the others mentioned) was availabe on free transfer and wanted to join Chelsea, would you be happy for us to sign him and sell Cech? I wouldn't. I think even I wouldn't, but that has more to do with the non-footballing reasons than footballing ones. I absolutely love Cech for his attitude, humbleness and what he's done for us in the past. At present the truth is he's a bit dodgy and in purely footballing capacity, I'd prefer Casillas.
ethicalstrategy
I've been very impressed by Julio Cesar. I still rate Cech very highly and wouldn't change him though. I have a hunch that Silvino Louro - Jose's goalkeeping coach, is pretty damn good. Casillas wouldn't fare too well in the PL. He wouldn't recognise a cross if he sat on one. PloKoon13
I'd like to think it's Cech but I can't help but feel that's just my Chelsea bias kicking in. Based on recent form I agree with loz, I think César pips it.
rahul
Ross Turnbull? Well being Cech's understudy puts him near the top of the list.

PloKoon13
No mention of Pepe Reina, I see. Most people I know scream about him, but I don't rate him that highly.
sals
Its a difficult question to answer because all of these goalkeepers seem to excell in specific areas. Casillas is an incredible shot stopper with fantastic reactions whilst petr is probably the best keeper in the world at collecting crosses and defusing situations. Julio Cesar seems to have the best all round game. Im very glad no-one mentioned van der sar in this. Schwarzer had a great season but i think it is a bit of a stretch to put him in the same class as bufoon, petr, iker and cesar and Given only looks good because he has so many shots constantly raining down on him. As for Pepe Reina he dosent seem to take control of his area as well as the other top class keepers (from what i have read) and he does make a number of mistakes, not that i was complaining when one of them ended up with drogba scoring in that 4-4 draw at the bridge
TheWestwayWonder
Iker Casillas absolutely, he plays behind a sieve and yet he still manages to look world class. Anyone who saw el classico at the Nou Camp last year can attest to the fact that Barca were rampant, and yet he kept the door shut for nearly 80 minutes with some of the best reaction saves I have ever seen. Cech 04-05esque good. I know Julio Ceasar is very good from what I have seen of him, and I know Casillas has many off days, but on pure ability I would say San Iker

g3.7
over a significant period of time it's buffon, then a gap, then cech, then a large gap, then casillas.
clubhappy
I think Given is quality , definately in top 3 . julio cesar great keeper but i think Cech is still world class, not too much between the 3 .
