Ballack & Blu Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 If the unthinkable happens and JT follows the Arab money, who is our next captain,is lamps a shoe in for it?
ace Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I always like trying to figure out the order for captains though, like who would be after Lamps in the pecking order. I recall Ballack wearing it for a couple of games, and I think Drogba did for one game when JT, Lamps, and Ballack were all injured.
aChelseaSupporter Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Would Cech have a shout? I'd actually give it to him after Lamps. (BTW would be interesting to see Ashely Cole wear it :D )
Plavi26 Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Actually I believe that Cech and Cole are good shouts. Both are very outspoken on the field and communicate well in their respective roles which is required of a Captain.
kalpitv Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 We don't need to think about the unthinkable. It wont happen!
loz Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I don't think we have another good captain in the squad. The only one that is captain material is Ballack and he isn't a guaranteed starter. I have not been impressed by Lampard's captaincy when he has filled in for JT, I am no fan of goalkeepers being captain and Ashley Cole is far too petulant. If JT was to leave then the next captain could be whoever we bring in to replace him or it could be Essien however chancs are it would be Lampard as it would be a major snub if he didn't get it.
blizeH Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Drogba :D Nah, I have a feeling SFL will be our captain next season. (and yes, that means exactly what you think it means!)
kalpitv Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I didn't mention any potential candidates in my previous post. I think Joe Cole could be in with a shout (many might disagree). Other than him, there are the likes of Essien, Lampard, Cech and Ballack who would make good captains.
Ruh Buh Juh Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I think that IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF JT goes, then Essien should be captain. He's the Ghana captain and he's done an awesome job there.
BlueDay Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I think we are lucky with the fact that we have so many experienced players on the field we wouldnt ever lack any leadership. Drogba, Essien and Ballack (Carvalho?) are all captains for their countries. I heard somewhere that we are unbeaten whenever Lampard has been captain?
Qsmngy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Drogba:) Nah, I have a feeling SFL will be our captain next season. (and yes, that means exactly what you think it means!) You mean Terry is going to die? Only god knows.

I still feel pretty sure he'll stay though.
TheWestwayWonder Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I know its just for the sake of discussion, but I cant believe this is a serious thread, or that this is even a reasonable issue for debate
BlueBosnian Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Carlo said that JT will be captain forever, so I don't think he will ever leave or retire.
ozboy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I'd support Ballack but he may not play as much this season. Its an interesting point seeing that Terry clearly is interested in the money. And why wouldn't he be. Its alright for us supporters to say loyalty above all, but what does it cost us? If the Arabs are offering an X million pound sign on fee to the player why wouldn't you think about it? Its a job not a marriage.
PloKoon13 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 How about Alex? He'd get that look on his face when it looks like he's about to kill someone and everyone would fall into line and win 5-0 for fear of being annihilated.
ace Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 This really has nothing to do with CFC, just something I (as a Yank) wondered, but the majority of the EPL captains seem to be English, and when that is not an option, they are usually some British alternative (Scottish, Irish, Welsh, etc.) Is this something that is just come to be expected in England? Off the top of my head Chelsea, Man U, Pool, Bolton, Fulham, ManCity, Birmingham, Spurs, Hull....I dunno, just something I thought about at work today.
PloKoon13 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Well a captain is normally someone who has been at the club for a long time, or is a strong leader or tied in very deeply to the club for some reason. Most players who would have been at the club from the beginning of their careers (i.e. a long time) would be English, so that is probably why. With all the foreign youngsters we all have coming through, this will probably come to an end.
