Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has excluded defender Gabriel Heinze, attacking midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart and forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from the team. They will be sold soon.

What's your opinion about Van der Vaart? Should we buy him and do we need player like he is and in his position?

We've got a lot of midfielders as it is. Although I am a big fan of Van der Vaart, he is probably not what we need now.

Absolute legend for my AC Milan team in Football Manager 07. Only trouble is that he plays in Frank's position. (Of course, in that game, Philip Senderos was also a legend.)

Good player but with Essien, Deco, Lampard, Mikel, Ballack etc. I really can't see why we would spend money on him. Of course if we got him cheap perhaps, but unless we're gonna play with a 5 man midfield I doubt we'll go for him.

Wouldn't mind getting Huntelaar though. Sure we already have 7 strikers so we don't need him but I would still take him. Kalou isn't good enough, Sheva and Pizzaman might both leave (and they aren't really good enough) and both Sturridge and Di Santo are young guys who might not quite be ready for regular first team action yet. That basically leaves us with only Drogba and Anelka, so getting Huntelaar as a backup would be great. I also think he might become a really great striker in the future (he's still quite young, right?).

But if Real asks for too much then they can keep him.

van der vaart should be a serious option for any big team

this guy oozes class

that says it all, and though he would probably be surplus in our team right now, he has the versatility to find a niche out wide, as a support striker, etc etc

Madrid are dumb. Its almost August and their squad is still bloated

would love to see VDV in our team, he a class act, very versatile and great from set piece. Not sure what type of prices are being floated around for him but i reckon 12-15mil may be enough. It is true that we have a lot of midfielders but every team should be able to find a place in their squad for someone of this quality

would be a bit harsh on malouda for the way he is playing but if we are looking at a diamond then i don't think we could go wrong with:

essien

mikel --- lampard

van der vaart

vdv would easily get the nod over deco and ballack

I am very surprised to hear you prefer someone over Ballack.

Where does Zhirkov fit in that? Surely nobody thinks we have just spent £18m on a reserve full back. We have no space for VdV in our squad and personally I am not convinced he has the class some people think he has. Good but not great.

we spent £15m on a striker and continued to play one up front, we spent £9m on a defender and didn't play him once that season, a season after buying swp for £22m we stopped playing wingers...

also I think it's pretty obvious zhirkov is not an ancelotti signing.

Ballack has one year left on his contract, and I don't think Deco has but one year after this season. Mikel and Essien are off to the ACN this year, and we need someone to link us between the midfield and the front two. I think he should seriously be looked at

I think we should go in for him because this is probably going to be the final season for Ballack and Deco....and even Lamps has but 2-3 seasons at his peak left in him. We need a midfield player to make the transition into the next generation of Chelsea midfield seamless... and I think he could be the one.

That is true but there is a slight difference in that, when we bought Ivanovic and SWP we were still very much in 'piss money all over the place' world. Anelka was slightly different in that he was brought in when we were short of cover up front and then he was played out wide regularly.

A similar situation to Anelka's is possible whereby Zhirkov is played out of position but I can't see him being a perpetual bench warmer.

I agree, but does he good enough in defence? Balack, Essien, Mikel are very good in defence and even Deco is not bad at all, but can it be VDV? In defence of course. Or he should be substitute for Lampard? Though, on which position all you think he should play if we sign him?

i've never watched him enough to know much about his consistancy but his ability is certainly up there with lampard

Arsene Wenger would be stupid too let the likes of Klass Hunt and VDV to slip through his fingers with the money he's got with the sales of Adeybasnore and maybe Toure.

A dutch forward line and midfield would make them certaintly a strong force next season.

They need a holding midfielder more than Van Der Vaart and they probably don't even need a striker if you look at it.

They've got Eduardo, Bendtner, Arshavin, Van Persie and Vela who can all play up front, so I think they're fine there. I was consorting with the enemy earlier today and said that they should probably try desperately to get De Rossi in with all of Roma's financial problems, and while they're there , they might as well get Mexes to partner Gallas. Obviously that'd never happen, but a more likely option would be Fernandes/Sunny Sunday or whatever his name is now from Valencia or possibly Toulalan. They'll need a new centre back too though, and I'm not sure who's likely there, but still, a striker and a creative midfielder isn't exactly what they need.

God, if he wound up with Arsenal that would piss me off and scare me. He is just the kind of 'potential' player that would thrive there.

Its like when Rosciky went to Arsenal. I loved that guy after Euro04 and wanted him at Chelsea so badly. In the end, obviously we dodged a huge bullet on that one
