Sheva can leave

Featured Replies

I don't want him to go.

I think he's worth another shot... even if it's just as cover during the African Cup of Nations. I just think he's got one more world-class, spectacular display left in him.

This is desperate measures by the club. They are simply looking to offload him to save money.

Who is going to match his wages ? Even if we offer a club to pay half his wages we are still looking at 60k a week. 60k a week for someone whos legs have very clearly gone ? Anyone who does are mugs.

Wouldnt surprise me if he stays and trains all season and never plays.

Maybe Notts County will come in for him!!

To be honest though it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually ended up playing in the States, what with his wife being American.

But Sheva's English is shockingly bad! And I haven't seen many Americans that can speak a language besides English...or American.

To be fair he tried hard to make it work, but it just wasnt happening. He leaves with my respect..

I definately see him going to an arab or an american side as a marquee signing. I think there the only teams who would want him to be honest.

Good luck at your new club Shevchenko. You was one huge flop but i still got some fond memories of you at our club.

Here's most people's highlight:

I thought he'd be a top class striker (although I was against us signing him - till then our big signings had been players with real hunger and desire to make a name for themselves at Chelsea). I remember seeing him in his first pre-season game in the US, and couldn't believe how bad he was. Hansen took one look at him and knew his legs had gone and he wouldn't be getting them back. He was dead right, sadly.

i think he should never have played in the world cup, he looked about 10% fit but as captain in Ukraines first world cup , he HAD to play.

from that he went straight into preseason and i dont think his body ever recovered.

it started well enough , in the charity shield with a great finish against liverpool and we thought we were sorted. come about November it was pretty clear we had made a very expensive error.

such a shame, i remember how elated i was when we signed him, like many others he was the signing i wanted ever since roman took over.

i thought having won back to back titles and now with shev in the team we were gonna dominate for a decade

Good luck to him. I have nothing against Sheva, he did what he could, but it wasn't to be.

I think we will be looking to sell him, not loan him again. USA sounds good, one of the Arab coutnries too, probably a return to Ukraine. I don't nearly expect him to demand the same wage he has had here.

Good luck to him. No grudges against him. He always gave his best but losing his pace cost him dearly in England.

May he do well in the future.

Hmmm i am kinda sad that he is going to be leaving us. Not because i know he will score goals but because of the player he was and the mentality he showed whilst at this club.

He was genius on the football field who used eat, sleep and fart goals and whilst at chelsea he showed himself to be a true team player and a nice man.

I wish him the best of luck where ever he decides to go and i hope he starts scoring goals again so that he can go out on a high

we saw glimpses of what we thought we had paid for, goal against the y*ds was a cracker and he scored a couple of other vital goals.

he is definately better off going elsewhere.

Good Luck Sheva :D

I find it interesting how we all are wishing Shev the best of luck and all agree that he was a nice guy and always worked hard for us despite not scoring very many goals for us and despite missing lots of chances he never hid and always went looking for the next chance , but yet when we sold Kezman who's Chelsea career you could summarise in the same way he became a figure of fun and abuse, something i dont think Shev will.

Strange - cant put my finger on why!

Guess the difference between Kezman and Sheva is that Sheva did reach the very top whereas Kezza didn't and despite having reached the very top and realising inside he couldn't reach those heights again he still didn't stop trying. Kezza could keep trying 'til the cows come home and he'd never get there. Couldn't fault his effort though.

I guess thats fair, Shev deserves to live of his reputation. I mean im no Fan of Kezman , i thought he was shocking, but then again so was Shev.

I guess a cynic could argue that Kezza won more than Shev at Chelsea too. He scored the winning goal in a Cup Final and a lot of people forget how well he led the line in THAT game against Barca - its fair to say Shev never had a game like that for us. Sadly.

Lets face it, he is the biggest transfer failure in the history of English football and yet we are wishing him all the best. Its just strange.!

It wasn't really due to a lack of effort on his part, and it's not as if he ever did anything bad or worthy of disdain as a player, so I guess it's an appropriate reaction.

I understand what you mean though. Would you say the same about Veron?

I don't know. I won't forget his performance in that 4-4 game against Villa (the one where we got hard done by in the last minute with the A.Cole 'handball'). Scored two, set up Alex's great goal....he was class that day, just wish we'd seen it more often.

A small part of me wants to see him stay to see if we can get anything else out of him...

I was glad to see Kezman go and I am glad to see Sheva go. I don't mean that in a 'have a go at them' kind of way, just a 'best thing for the club' kind of way.

Kezman wasn't good enough and never has been good enough. Sheva once was good enough but unfortunately was never really good enough in his time at Chelsea. The reasons for that are irrelevant now however one thing I am sure of is that keeping him wuld be daft as the most he would achieve this seaosn if he stayed would be possibly to get in the way of Sturridge's progression.

No of course not, he just took the piss. Fact that that he was at the peak of his powers and had all the talent in the world just made it worse.

I think if anyone could have got more out of Sheva then it would be Carlo who knows him probably better than any other manager. If Carlo says it's time to go then that's good enough for me. Time to step up Studge.

let's all agree that he was a massively disappointing failure, but very nice chap. It's a shame that we had the once greatest striker in th world on our team, but we never saw any of it. Sure the glimpse of what he could do was seen against spuds, but then again it was painful watching him come off the bench and just look, well, old!

I think one of the other things that gives Sheva a little bit of leway, is that we all feel he was kinda "forced" onto the club. That sounds like backward logic, but somewhat true. Anyway, I hope he settles.

BJD, I think you're spot on about the World Cup. I remember thinking that when we signed him...I thought "God, he's been crocked all summer, fought his heart out for his country, and now he's going to spend most of his time on the bench,"

Scott

I understand what everyone is saying, but for me it is still a sad day. Maybe it's one of those unfulfilled talent things, I think even when he came back this time somewhere in my deluded mind I still hoped that he might turn it around. It just never really happened. And to make it worse, where others failed through lack of effort he always worked hard out there, meaning that to a degree I'm mystified as to how it could have come to us selling him on a free transfer with a year to go on his contract.

That said for all his mediocre days, I myself will always remember that goal in the 4-4 draw against Villa from outside the box a couple of years back. Genuine class, that I hope he rediscovers whereever the market takes him

Incidently The Guardian is running that he has rejoined Dynamo Kyiv, I think they are generally more reliable than most.

During the African Cup of Nations we are going to be f**ked... Essien, Drogba, Kalou, Mikel all leaving... So what strikers do we have at that time? Anelka, Daniel, and Di Santo.

Jesus Christ.
