Mel Gibson is an easy target for obvious reasons.

Have you seen the film?

It is a superb tale of human strength.

Yes he is an easy target, for the obvious reason that he is blatantly a racist and a moron. And yes, I tried to watch the film but couldnt. Not because of the racism but more because of the factual inaccuracies (a common occurrence in his films of late) and it being a bit sh*t.

Who gives a flying f**k about Gibson.

Check out imdb.com

80,000 reviews averaging 7.9

Nomiated for 3 oscars. Yeah. it must be sh*t.

Factual inaccuracies, are you for real? Are you of Mayan origins?

You seem easily offended.

Christ.

The Oscars are a lottery. Citizen Kane didn't win the Oscar for best movie and only got the Oscar for best screenplay. Blade Runner got only two nominations, but didn't win an Oscar. Chaplin's City Lights didn't get a single nomination, but Gladiator won the best movie Oscar. Bernard Hermann wasn't even nominated for the music he did for Psycho and somehow Scorsese wasn't nominated for a best director Oscar for Taxi Driver. I could go on and on...

Ah right, sorry. Heres me thinking this thread was about people opinions on a film, didnt realise it was a thread about your opinions on a film. I apologise profusely on having the temerity to disagree with you. If you decide to continue basing your arguments on Oscar nominations though then I will feel obliged to consider you an idiot.

What are you on about?

How is it racist?

Jesus wept.

See, you sorta missed the point. Whereabouts did I say racist? What I said was "racially stereo-typical". If you don't know the difference, then you shouldn't be trying to start an argument about either one.

I'm not sure why you are getting so antsy about this. Was your mum in the film? Is Mel Gibson your very embarrassing drunk, racist uncle?

As for Oscars won or nominated, that is a very odd yardstick to use to judge the merit or otherwise of a film. Just google "Bad oscar winners" and "Good films that didn't win an oscar" to see why you are deluded.

But, basically, Apocalypto was sorta racist as well, and TF that Gibson seems hell-bent on fecking up his life sufficiently that it is unlikely that any major studio will pander to his obscene ideology again.

What ever happened to that witty, misogynist, racist, violently loveable rogue who was Mad Max?

Money and booze, apparently

Kev

You felt the need to comment on a film you didn't even watch and what the vat majority of 80,000 people thought on one site.

Your views are your views, but it's obvious you wouldn't give it a fair chance because you have read some ridiculous blog and based your assumptions on an idotic film stars personal life.

It's like not supporting Chelsea because Ashley Cole shags all round him.

I'll say nothing more on t as its not worth arguing about.

Watch the movie and come back to me about it.

I think you and Dkw were both playing the racist card so I thought by addressing his I had cleared up both.

I wasn't sure if you actually wanted answers to your sarcastic questions..but no I have no family ties or affiliations with Gibson or the cast, obviously.

Yea there has been a few bad oscars but at the end of the day this films a MOVIE.

I didn't see the part where it says "Listen up carefully lads, this a f**king true story so take everything on board!!!"

Just because Gibson is a prick in real life doesn't make this movie a stinker.

Watch it honestly, it's a great story of family love, grit and determination!

Sorry... :happy001: ...I just liked how that looks when it's taken out of context. Carry on!

Ive tried to watch the f**king thing, and as I told you couldnt finish it. mainly because it was meandering, unbalanced, racist sh*te. my opinion. Am I only allowed to form an opinion on films I watch to the end? And 80,000 might have liked it but that means f**k all to me. Millions liked that stupid sh*tty dance movie thing, but it was still a stupid sh*tty dance movie.

Jeez dkw, you got PMT?

:laugh2: Just wasnt happy him presuming I didnt like it because I had read a blog, when in fact I hadnt even seen that blog until I found it yesterday. I didnt like it because I didnt like it, nothing to do with giving it a fair chance or 80,000 people on some random site liking it.

Feel flattered dickywuh! If you have PMT, you must be an honorary woman - high praise indeed!

That blog you found read as if the woman knew her subject thoroughly.

I've seen Apocalypto twice and it's one of those movies where you should have a pretty strong stomach to watch it because there is some disgusting scenes in it, atleast I think so! :P

I don't know how or why the movie itself would be racist as I know nothing about the Mayan population or anything surrounding them and pretty much just watched it as a movie to entertain me.

The movie itself was great I thought and as Zola described it's a great story of family love, grit and determination as you follow the main character around (can't remember his name) from the start of the film until the end.

I would recommend it to anyone who has not seen it as I think it was a really good story but that is just my opinion!

I watched From Dusk To Dawn over the weekend, it started great and then just disintegrated into a pile of sh*t.

Its a ridiculous film isnt it, as you say it starts really well and feels like its gonna be a superb movie. Then just goes mental and all vampirey.

I just saw Inception and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it would be so complex that it would "trip over its own feet", so to speak, but I rather enjoyed the ride. I think it was partly because I knew very little about it when I went into the theater and partly because I hadn't really bought into the hype. It was probably just slightly too long and maybe some of the action sequences could have been tighter, but all in all it was quite an enjoyable movie. There were some things that I didn't like, but they weren't major parts of the plot. There were some little "look how clever we are" kind of moments in the narrative, which I felt were not needed, but like I said, they were just little things. I won't say anything too specific so I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

Saw "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" a couple of days ago. I thought it would be too weird. It wasn't. I liked it. Perhaps not the greatest movie I've seen but still very enjoyable. Good actors in it as well. Ledger did well in his last role and Depp, Law and Farrell taking over the part worked well and they really made it seem like they were the same character.

I really want to see it. If not for anything else, but at least to see how much sense it makes to have several actors playing the same character. I know they HAD to do it this way or else there would have been no movie because of Ledger's death, but I just want to see how forced the solution feels like or if it actually works.

So, Ruh Buh Juh - you still haven't told us what you thought of se7en...

Apologies, have been in Espagne for the past week, and have got 115 threads to work my way through!

I really liked it! It was really different, but it wasn't what I expected from it. The ending was superb, it was so clever. Although, on the dvd cover, it states that it has one of the greatest twists ever, but that wasn't much of a twist, it was just clever. It made me realise how amazing an actor Morgan Freeman is, and that I'm surprised that Brad Pitt has been a hell of a lot of good films.

However, I was expecting it to be far more twisted than it actually was, as in actually showing a number of the murders. Having said that, I quite liked that, as it let you draw your own conclusions really, as if not showing what happened is scarier than actually seeing it, if you know what I mean.

I didn't know what to make of Parnassus. It was strange, I liked the parts in the real world, not so much a fan of the Imaginarium world. Tricky one, for me.
