November 21, 201015 yr Caught the newest Harry Potter the other night. Great flick, definitely one of the better ones in recent memory. Never read the book, though. Heard it was disappointing from that point, but I thought it was excellent.
November 23, 201015 yr Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. A charming and informing documentary about the best band to ever grace this earth.
November 23, 201015 yr Watched M*A*S*H the other day for the first time in years, still a great movie!
November 23, 201015 yr Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Disappointing Canadian mawk-rock at its most derivative - avoid this at all costs if you have ANY interest in music at all. And I also watched a charming and informing documentary about the best band to ever grace this earth. There you go, I fixed your typo!
November 23, 201015 yr There you go, I fixed your typo! You seem to have confused Rush with Bryan Adams. Although Bryan Adams probably has a legion of support on here due to his being a Chelsea fan.
November 24, 201015 yr Watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1). Being a hugehugehugehugehuge fan of the book, I have to say it lived up, and possibly exceeded my expectations of how I hoped it would turn out. A lot of the first half is fairly boring, more about how the relationship between the main trio weakens/strengthens while they search for the horcruxes, but it was a very, very good film. Stayed very faithful to the book, with the exception of the dancing scene *cringe*. Cracking film, now only 8 months to wait till the 2nd part....yeah, I can wait that long. ¬_¬ Regarding Inception, I think it's a truly incredible film and everyone who's seen it should read this, it's the best explanation (or theory, if you will) about Inception I've read, and I've read many, many theories, trust me! (Epic spoiler alert though, don't read unless you've seen it!)
November 24, 201015 yr RuhBuhJuh - how can you say the first half was fairly boring, then say it was a very, very good film? To be a very very good film it has to be interesting/thought-provoking/exciting/,, throughout! I blame your teachers! P.S. Inception is a crap film. Edited November 24, 201015 yr by moi
November 29, 201015 yr Every time I watch that I'm disappointed that she doesn't stay with Rick! I always hope that they'll have changed the ending!
November 29, 201015 yr Every time I watch that I'm disappointed that she doesn't stay with Rick! I always hope that they'll have changed the ending! It was a powerful love story. Poor Rick was caught in the middle of two conflicts - a complicated love affair and a battle between the Axis and Allies. Great movie!
November 29, 201015 yr Watched two Christmassy films last night with the flatmates - Elf and Home Alone. Elf is good, but I am starting to get tired of Will Ferrel's retarded character in films. Home Alone is great though, it'll never get old :D
November 29, 201015 yr Watched two Christmassy films last night with the flatmates - Elf and Home Alone. Elf is good, but I am starting to get tired of Will Ferrel's retarded character in films. Home Alone is great though, it'll never get old :D Bless you, dear! You're growing up!
November 29, 201015 yr saw Love and Other Drugs a couple nights ago. Okish love story with Parkinsons Disease. Ann Hathaway and Jake Guulenhall (not sure of spellings)
November 29, 201015 yr I watched A Few Good Men for the umpteenth time tonight - just for the pleasure of seeing Jack Nicholson losing it in the court room. Love it!
November 30, 201015 yr Every time I watch that I'm disappointed that she doesn't stay with Rick! I always hope that they'll have changed the ending! It's a bloody propaganda film moi, the whole point is that he gives her away! Because 'the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world' Then to soothe his soul Rick runs off and joins the war effort.
November 30, 201015 yr It's a bloody propaganda film moi, the whole point is that he gives her away! Because 'the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world' Then to soothe his soul Rick runs off and joins the war effort. That certainly is one interpretation, Spiller. But I don;t think he gives her away - she is not an object that he possesses. There is not the slightest suggestion that he rejects her and says Bugger off back to hubby! SHE chooses to go with her husband.
November 30, 201015 yr Trust me moi it isn't an interpretation. There is a whole raft of literature about the film being made explicitly with the war effort in mind, there was even a bureau for judging the effectiveness of films as propaganda during the period. It just happened to be one of the great films ever made, mainly through the magnificent performances of Bogart and Bergman. She certainly goes back with Victor, but she would prefer to stay with Rick. It is only after his speech about the importance of Victor's work and how there are places he is going where she can't go that she is convinced to get on the plane. November 30, 201015 yr Don't confuse me with what the latest young intellectual lions are saying! PS The Young Lions was a good film too, though not as good as the book. Edited November 30, 201015 yr by moi
November 30, 201015 yr Never read the book, but Brando can do little wrong in film in his early years, as far as I'm concerned. Shame about his decline in his later years If I am to get back on topic last film I had a look at was Up In The Air. Thought it was pretty solid, though not outstanding anyone else had a look?
November 30, 201015 yr Haven't seen that, but you're right about Brando - On The Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire. Mutiny on the Bounty.. and on and on
December 2, 201015 yr Finally saw an old classic I've wanted to see for quite awhile - "Singin in the Rain". I really enjoyed it. Great movie! Haven't seen that, but you're right about Brando - On The Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire. Mutiny on the Bounty.. and on and on Last summer I got this urge to watch some Brando movies. So I watched "On The Waterfront" and "Mutiny on the Bounty". Bloody brilliant movies. Brando was truly great on those two (well in everything he was in, apart from perhaps "The Island of Dr Moreau"). Was going to see "A Streetcar Named Desire" as well, but never got around to it. Must see that as well. Truly one of the greatest actors ever.
December 6, 201015 yr Watched Tombstone (Val Kilmer) on Saturday, what a great film that is imo... Kilmer as the card sharp dying anti-hero Doc Holliday so cool - loved it.
