We have lots of guys who I think should play more, DS, Zhirkov, Alex to name a few. With DD and Essien returning at some point, seems to me we're loaded for bear and have all we need to take this thing. Go Blue! ::clap2::

I'm seriously pissed off that we didn't strengthen our squad during this window. I know we've got a lot of decent youngsters at the club, but if and when we get stitched up by the authorities (yet again) we could have to wait until the summer of 2011 before we can buy anyone.

We've got a lot of older players now, so you can imagine what the squad will look like next season. I've nothing against older players, but they do tend to lose their pace and become more injury prone. If the authorities decide to implement the transfer ban, next season we're gonna struggle.

Very bad short term transfer policy by either Ancelotti or the club, and whoever is responsible should walk.

Not buying this window will have implications if the ban is reinstated.

If we manage to escape (which I doubt), then it won't be so important, and we'll sign in summer.

I am surpised that Chelsea did not sign anyone in the winter transfer market. I hope Carlo knows what he is doing. Am I right in thinking he has been to a lot of Chelsea reserve games? Its just that if he has maybe he has seen something that has convinced him that he did not need to sign anyone.

Who knows. We have to wait and see on that one ::clap2::

Well I am a bit disappointed. I thought we could have added atleast one player. Perhaps not a big star, but maybe a young talent. I mean, Dzagoev has been rumoured with a move to us and he likes Chelsea and loves Lampard. The russian league has ended as well so it's a perfect time for him to leave. Doubt he'll want to do it in the summer because he will be in the middle of the season then.

But the most important thing is that we win the appeal now because if we don't we will be screwed and I will be seriously pissed off at the ones responsible at Chelsea. They would have taken a win for granted and then failed. They can then just f*ck off.

Anyone know when we'll know if we won the appeal or not? Since we didn't sign anyone I will be really nervous about the outcome.

I suppose it saves Carlo running around Cobham with his cock hanging out!

Not too bothered about it really, if not too many are injured we have arguably the strongest squad in the prem.

And us not buying, in my opinion, makes our case stronger about the transfer ban. If we had appealed the ban and bought a sh*tload of players it would've looked as if the club knew they were going to get a transfer ban. Not buying anyone sounds to me like the club is really confident we'll win the case.

I too am annoyed and disappointed. I think we missed a big opportunity, not only to strengthen because of the ban, but becuase we couldve added something to our squad right away that might have given us an extra edge in the title race. Right now, for me, winning the title is more important than anything.

With the impending ban and the appeal, consider this: FIFA and UEFA have made examples of us in the past, and will do it again in the future. Who at the club is so overconfident that a governing body most of us believe to be crookedly run, and who have been exposed for all manner of corporate fraud in the past, are going to follow the letter of the law and just overturn the ban because we make a good case. If anything, it will be reduced, but not overturned.

If the nightmare scenario comes to pass, and we have to make do without new signings until 2012, the consequences dont bear thinking about

The club have taken an almighty gamble with this, the next window is over 6 months away, the appeal will be decided before then, considering its Chelsea Vs Uefa, that doesnt sound like a smart move to me. I know its an independent body overseeing the appeal, but its still a gamble that we could of avoided, with a bit of transfer activity, we could have covered our arses just in case.

Hindsight will always prove 20/20 but you can make an argument that if they never intended to buy anyone in this window that they should have just lived with the ban and not appealed it. Of course as a matter of principle they want to see it overturned because they feel that they did nothing wrong but looking at it from a realistic standpoint it may have been the best course of action.

The punishment as handed down from UEFA was missing Winter 2010 and Summer 2010 transfer windows. Chelsea have conceded the Winter 2010 window as they do not want to buy anyway. With the appeal we have three outcomes:

1. Appeal is granted and transfer ban is overturned

2. Sentence is reduced to one transfer window: miss the Summer 2010 transfer window

3. Sentence is upheld: miss Summer 2010 and Winter 2011 transfer window

Option 1 is clearly ideal. Option 2 ends up being the same as the original punishment in essence: no transfers for Winter 2010 and Summer 2010. Option 3 means they really screwed up because they lost three transfer periods: Winter 2010 (able to buy but didn't want to), Summer 2010 and Winter 2011. While fighting for a just result and fair treatment is all well and good, option 3 now basically means no new players for two years. So it is obvious to me they must think this appeal is almost certain to be granted, otherwise appealing may become a grave miscalculation.

im surprised so many people are pissed off about this, considering most have been banging on for the past few years about wanting to bring our youth players through. surely you should be happy with no signings.

I'm happy what's the point of buying for the sake of it - who was available - no one we wanted or needed.

On the other hand, we could have parted company with a couple.

I have faith that the club know what they are doing. Also who would you want to buy at the over-inflated January prices. There aren't any players of our standard availible for anything but ridiculous money

Im surprised about us not signing anyone aswell. At the moment Carlo is clearly not interested in giving youth a chance, if he would be, we would have seen one or two youth players against Sunderland (when we were up),Birmingham and Preston.

I just cant believe Carlo is serious about the youth, I think hes much more interested to play the old players for another few years.

Other possibility is that the club is sure that the transfer ban will be turned over. We will just have to wait and see what happens about it.

That's partly the point though. If the youngsters had been brought through maybe a year earlier, they would be far more capable of stepping up now. If we're banned from buying anyone until the end of next season, only a handful of youngsters will be ready to take over from the old and/or injured. Instead of Deco making his recent appearances, I'd prefer to see Kakuta in the side. Likewise players like Ferreira and Kalou, neither of which is good enough for the first team, a perfect opportunity to blood youngsters.

i dont think any of our managers of late were in a position to blood youth simply because of the expectations of winning things. theres also the fact none of them have really been good enough to make that breakthrough, hopefully the current crop are able to though as there are several looking good enough.

I'm not pisssed off, just worried. In general the squad is fine, maybe lacking some flair and pace but right now we are very strong. But we have to look ahead.

If we don't get the transfer ban thrown out Im worried about going into next season with our squad a year older and a group of largely untested youngsters.

In that respect I hope the club know what they are doing because they could be playing Russian roulette with our future. All our rivals will be stronger next season and not finishing in the top 4 could be catastrophic for the club - the ramifications are hard to bear thinking about.

i agree with you completely on this by the way, just find it odd that some people who have always pushed for the inclusion of youth players are unhappy that we didnt sign players that would stop these players coming through. to my mind the fact we didnt sign someone is a sign that the club either totally believe they will have the ban overturned or they are going to take a different direction in bringing players through the system, which may be spurred by the fact Roman spent a sh*t load of money on an academy yet to bear fruit (though there is a crop of players that hopefully will make it through)

I agree with you regarding our managers of late, but I can't help wondering how players like Scott Sinclair and his like would have progressed had they been given their chance at Chelsea earlier, rather than just being left in the ressies or farmed out to teams in lower leagues. It's something none of us will ever know, but we could have an educated guess.

Anyway, stop arguing ya miserable git, you know I'm always right ::clap2::

I'm disappointed with this, especially after the result tonight. Even with Essien back, we will struggle to play through the remaining matches this season without reinforcement. The very least we could do is to bring Macinnie back. Carlo will not throw the kids into the deep end based on what we have seen so far. Lampard, Ballack, Drgoba, Anelka, JT etc will play week in week out unless injury or suspension. We will drop points due to fatigue, just hope it wont cost us too much
