Referees Decisions

Man Utd lads in work here are trying to put forth the idea that we have been very lucky all season with referees in the league... and that the FA "want us to win" this year.

Can you remember any joke decisions that I can bounce back?

How about the extra time in the United vs City game.. Have seen manipulated pictures of Fergie holding a extratime board in the air with the the inscription "Until we score" on.

  • Author

thought about that one, but match of the day proved it to be only 2 seconds over the allocated time.

I won't see them again to lunch, so we have a little time to think back.

Trying to remember fixtures where we got done over.

Hm

This will always happen. Over the seasons they have had plenty - like the Spurs goal which crossed the line but was never given and penalties for Ronaldo dives etc.

But must admit, we have enjoyed some pretty favourable decisions of late and I think we might have used them all up in three games - the Drogba offside goal, and possibly three penalties in our last two matches - NONE awarded. Long may it continue.

Still, as they say, "you make your own luck"!!

how about the penalty against spuds last year when they were 2-0 down and it started that huge comeback. They won it 5-2 but had it not been for the weakest of weak penalties who knows what would have happened. Not to mention the fact that fergie can say whatever he wants about any referee and get treated far differently than every other manager does.

Not to mention rooneys offside goal in the community shield at the start of the year

Talk sport were really having a go today, really trying to spread the opinion that we will now have won the league because of poor ref decisions lolol what a joke this lot are.

I hate everything about Talk Sport.

Adrian Durham has to be the most cynical and annoying prick on the planet.

Just laugh at them mate.

If the FA 'wanted us to win it' wouldn't Johnny Evans have been banned for planting his studs into Drogba's chest when they played us at The Bridge?

Wouldn't Vidic have been banned for that challenge on Elmander against Bolton at The Reebok?

And when they drew 1-1 with Birmingham at St Andrews, the linesman was flagging for offside against Rooney for their equaliser but the ref (Clattenberg) overuled him. Wouldn't he have disallowed it if The FA 'want us to win it'???

Jeez....

Should have had at least 1 penalty against west ham, more likely 2. Adebayors goal at city, clear handball. Blackburns goal coming from a throw in they shuold never have had. Cech`s sending off v wigan, a sending off that many other keepers got away with, including their own v villa. oh and tell em to f**k off, they have had ridiculous decisions go their way for years, nice to see them having it the other way.

I would say that there was only possibly 1 penalty in our last 2 games. There was never a handball on Terry and Mikels foul against Villa should have been a freekick to us, rather than a penalty for them.

Drogbas goal was offside, yes, but on the other hand ManUs goal was a handball. And both teams were denied penalties in that game.

If Manu lose - blame the ref, if Chelsea win - blame the ref.

If Manu are 3-0 down with 1 min to go, it's the ref's fault for not adding on enough extra time.

I'm getting fed up with everyone blaming the ref for their sides being sh*t. Coyle and O'neill are at it aswell now, neither side mustered a decent chance during our last 2 games, but it's the ref's fault they lost.

We beat Villa 3-0 for f*ck-sake, but it's the ref's fault, because he didn't give them a penalty? - that would have made it 3-1 where would they have pulled the other 2 goals back, without having a shot for the rest of the game?

F*CK 'EM ALL!

Scholes and Neville should have both been booked a 2nd time aswell!

All very subjective. Being a Chelsea fan I wouldn't have awarded ANY of them but all three could easily have been given.

Drogba's was nailed on hand ball - luckily very few saw it and even only one Bolton player appealed.

The JT one lookeed very high up on his arm, but there is n doubt he leant into it and I have seen much lesser handballs given plenty of times.

As for Mikel, again, yes they were grappling a bit in the box, but the ultimate challenge was a cumsy one from Mikel and again, I've seen penalties awarded for a LOT less.

So IMO we have got lucky - but I'm not complaining!

The only person who seems to have had a good view of the Terry one is the linesman who didnt give it, any pictures or vids ive seen are from behind and dont show where the ball hit. and the Mikel one should have been a free kick to us initially, with agbonlahor pulling his shirt. Ive seen free kicks for less. Drogba`s does look a penalty though, lucky on that one.

I was watching last nights Bolton game on telly (ESPN)...

With respect to Drogba's handball: It was that clear cut a penalty that no-one on the TV presentation spotted the 'penalty' until Owen Coyle complained about it!! It was thought to have hit the head of the Bolton player. It was not discussed at half-time and was only replayed after the second half started.

Terry handball: The linesman who had the best view of the incident clearly indicated that the ball hit JT's chest as he stooped to clear the ball. The linesmans' view was better than any of the camera angles shown on TV. So all the media reporting is based on a second rate view and the Bolton claims.

I didn't see the Villa game, however, the first thing I heard about the penalty claim went along this line on Radio Five Live. Presented talking to football journo...

Presenter: "Should Villa have had a penalty?"

Journo: "This is slightly controversial, but no, Chelsea should have had a free kick. The first offence was Agbon-la-whore pulling back on Mikel, then Mikel fouled Agnlon-la-whore, so it was a Chelsea free kick or possibly a Villa penalty, but the ref was wrong not to award anything."

There we go three lucky decisions.....

What about the non-penalty at Inter!!! :D

last night the commentators were adamant that bolton should have had two penalties. even they they didn't see either incident clearly. the drogba one was inconclusive, and as for the terry one, one of them was saying the ball rolled down his arm. oh really? i didn't see where it hit JT - nobody did except the linesman, but i did see him swing his arm to get it out of the way of the ball.

same thing against man u. sky were harping on about drogba's goal being offside, and while they accepted that both teams could have had a penalty, they didn't bother to mention the fact that that their goal was handled into the net.

in the same game remember the man u players screaming for a penalty against malouda when it clearly hit him on the chest? man u fans were phoning in swearing blind that they should have had two penalties. this is the way with them. also, like it or not there are more of them than us, which simply means of course, that there's a lot more crap to go around.

then, was it at blackburn (i forget) when their goal was scored from a foul throw? typical commentator reaction was "well you wouldn't want a goal like that chalked off for a technicality would you". oh and that was just one more decision that didn't go our way. that one cost us two points, and if anyone cares to dig through the season, they'll find plenty of similar incidents, some of which worked in our favour, but also plenty that went against us.

United fans complaining about bad decisions is about as credible as some of the MPs' expenses claims!

Just have a trawl through this old thread:

This is what the Facebook status of one of my 'fb friends' read:

Shreyas Glazer Out Chitnis is waiting for the day when the Chelsea match fixing scandal comes out in the open. Another huge decision going unfairly towards the Rentboys. They've bought the FA too it seems.

Oooh and read this:

Dev Thacker Just like Man United's secret signing, Own Goal, apparently Chelsea also signed a player, The Ref, in the summer transfer window. Originally dubbed as a low-key signing, The Ref is hitting form at the right time of the season, and playing an important role in the title run-in.

And its not that the player has struck gold only now, putting in a number of key performances throughout the season on a regular basis, The Ref has played an important role in keeping Chelsea within touching distance of the top spot, which they eventually reached.

But unlike United's Own Goal, Chelsea's The Ref is a defender, hardly letting the oppostion score, and is also very good at assisting goals, even though he may not have scored them so often.

The Ref was signed from Liverpool last year, even after Liverpool fighting hard to hold on to The Ref, he eventually couldn't resist the smell of Russian Roubles.

To check out The Ref's impressive performances for Liverpool last season, click the link below-

http://www.apnafootball.com/columns/lal/Ha...ol_a_Title_Shot

Chelsea's assistant manager Ray Wilkins was quoted to be saying, "We tried hard year after year since 07, but we just couldn't figure what was missing in our team. But then we saw The Ref's all-round performances for Liverpool last year, and we realised he would be our "final piece in the jigsaw" and we just had to sign him. We had to move fast you know, with the inflated market prices and all, but that has never really been a problem for us. And for a defender like Ref to have so many assists to his name, right up there with the likes of Fabregas and Valencia, its just amazing. He really lifts his team-mates up, never lets them feel alone on the football pitch. What can I saw, just a great signing."

Off field interests of The Ref:

Favourite fragrance: Roubles.

Pet name: Lovingly called "Refski" by all Chelsea fans.

Activities: Just like every other human being, The Ref loves to whistle. But being such a selfless bloke, The Ref also whistles when his team-mates are feeling low, or joyous, so that the joy isn't spoilt.

And even after leaving Liverpool, The Ref remains great friends with Stevie Me, and like every true Scouser, dislikes United.

The lowest point in The Ref's career came when he scored an own goal in the 2nd leg of last year's CL semis against Barca, but it didn't come as that much of a surprise as The Ref hasn't performed that well in the CL for Chelsea.

This is actually quite amusing coming from the Surrey boys, fans of the club and manager for whom a whole new term was created, namely

Fergie-time (noun: The time added onto a football match by every referee, specifically at Old Trafford, to allow Manchester United time to score sufficient goals to win)

Edited by yorkleyblue

They really truly are f**king jokers arent they? Man Utd? Crying poor about a refs decisions? give me a f**king break.

They were second best this year. The sooner they accept it and move on, rather than blaming everyone else for their shortfalls like a bunch of sorry Dipper fans, the better

The level of talk about these handball incidents is getting to be a bit much. Hopefully the team sees a media who think they wont be worthy champions and goes out to smash Spuds at the weekend.

If Manu lose - blame the ref, if Chelsea win - blame the ref.

Very eloquently put Mr Nut

The undeniable bias against us came over loud and clear last night. John Champion actually appealed - like a Bolton fan - for the handball against JT, even though there was no TV evidence the ball had touched his arm. What it did show was JT clearly moving his left arm away from the ball, so there could not have been any intent.

The Daily Heil has printed a picture from behind JT's back which it claims shows JT 'clearly' handling - even though the ball is the other side of his arm and the picture does not show it making contact. There could be several inches between his arm at the ball at that moment, and the TV pictures showed his arm moving away from the ball.

The Drogba one was much more clear-cut, but also looked totally accidental.

My wife caught the 5live commentary last night, just when Mikel was writhing on the ground after Davies's nasty challenge that could have broken his ankle.

5 Live commentator: You will not see a game when Drogba doesn't roll around theatrically. It's beyond a joke.

Pat Nevin: Er... that's Mikel. And that's a nasty looking injury.

Commentator: Ummmmmm....
