JT - Captain, Leader, Legend

Featured Replies

This may upset one or two people, but if we lose the top spot to United the reason is simple - JT. His antics throughout most of the season have destabilised the club and his performances in the last few weeks have been erratic, costly and downright horrible. The thought of England winning the WC with JT in his current form and Green in goal behind him is almost laughable. The irony would be if we batter Stoke without him, Alex and Ivo have blinders and Carlo leaves him out for the trip to Anfield. Having said that, it is as likely Delap's throws will cause panic at the back as Cech relives his role as Christopher Lee's stand-in for Hammer Horror and everyone will say how much we missed JT. One certainty is he won't be winning any player of the year awards.

I almost want to agree with this just because it shows that everytime we don't play well its down to Ancelotti.

I can agree to an extent, we've probobly lost two or three games as a direct result of JT not being right in his head for the game and although he has had a couple of other unconvincing performances earlier in the season I think all players have form dips which our whole defence suffered from ie set pieces.

I think the Spurs game needed him to have aa cooler head than he did and he reacted badly to the way it was going, it would have been difficult to get back in after the penalty but with a few of the players not playing well and then the sending off it was even harder.

obviously the City game was a lot to do with the mood of the team in the wake of the Bridge saga and he was visibly angered by the handshake snub and Tevez getting in his face.

I think it might do him good to sit this out and I hope he is desperate to get back in and finish the season on a high, we know hes got the mentality I just hope he can focus in time.

that's bollocks

we won 5 or 6 in a row and we were in a great position before the spurs game and us losing had little to do with JT. going forward we were completely inept. Deco was the only player who could pick out a guy in blue. Terry was unlucky with the penalty and their 2nd goal was completely down to ferreira getting embarrassed by bale

we all know he is far from his best and everything that's going on in his personal life is his own doing but the last thing the guy will need is his own fans turning on him

I will largely lay the blame at Terry's door if we don't win it this year, aside from his performances I don't think he's done much to gel the squad this year with his behaviour. We've been all through the rights and wrongs of what's happened but he hasn't been the backbone and driving force of the side like he has in previous years, his personal life has got in the way of his football life this season.

Certainly a combination of our lack of ideas going forward cost us v Spurs but J.T. getting sent off hurt us more . Im not sure i can fully agree he's been the main problem through the season, hes had outstanding games for us since the scandal and performed brilliantly , his problem is his discipline on Saturday, totally wreckless but wheather thats down to his recent personal problems none of us can say.

I posted this after the Blackburn game in the match thread:

You can blame the manager, the squad, injuries, referees, the chairman for sacking Jose, but it's no coincidence our team spirit and season started to fall to pieces when Terry's revelations were brought to the front pages!!!

Too much mud-slinging for one season, and we buckled under the pressure when the spot-light was put on the club and individual players envolved. Terry's lack of form cost us vital points in the league and the first goal in the San Siro.

As our team captain, he was under the spot-light and was obviously effected, our team spirit and confidence were shot to peices, culminating in THAT Man City game where we blew it!!

I said leaving the ground against City we'd blown it and Terry had f*cked our season up!

Look where and when our results went pear-shaped, and when the story broke - it's no coincidence is it?

Nice one Skipper!!!!!!

.......

Since then we have had a convincing result against Villa and the Manu game which put us back in it, but some indifferent performances including Bolton at home and the WHL debacle.

Not all Terry's fault, but it knocked the stuffing out of us. That said - if we win our next 3 games we're champions, it's still our's to lose! With or without JT!

so we have had great results and performances mixed in with indifferent and poor. you mean like earlier in the season when none of the terry stuff had broken? lets make it easy then, blame the whole season on one player. oh hang on, lets blame it on ancelotti instead. oh hang on, ballack was rubbish last game so lets blame him, no sorry got confused it was paulo who sucked so its his fault...

This was posted after the Blackburn game.....did many of us think the league was still acheivable after that performance/result? I'm not sure I did, I hope I'm wrong.

So you don't think Terry put unnecessary pressure on us, and had a spell of poor game's when the story broke?

He responded well against Burnley, but after that there were a few games where he was all over the place, Hull away and Man City at home, one drawn due to Cech and one lost. 5 points dropped!!

As for Paulo, the Blackburn goal and the Spurs goal we both down to him, so another 5 points dropped. Looking forward to him defending those long throw Sunday aswell!!

Like I said, not all Terry's fault, but he has put us under unnecessary pressure, like it or not.

and it's still ours to throw away.

What's this? 10 posts into yet another blame-storming thread and no-one has mentioned either Mikel, Ballack OR Kenyon?????

Come on lads, you are all fecking slipping!

(oops. missed dicky's satirical swipe at Herr Ballack)

So why does this pressure only show up in certain matches? Terry was magnificent v utd, so why didnt it effect our players then? Quite frankly if this kind of thing effects our players so badly then they shouldnt be playing at this level. If they are so mentally weak as to not be able to get up for a game because of some newspaper headlines then get rid of them and get some players who arent pussies in.

come on yorkie, keep up eh :Rulezz_alcoman2:

LOL class i like writing that imitates terriers look for rabbits

So if we lose the title, and its JT fault alone

does that mean if we win it, its his accomplishment alone?

Of course not, its a team sport, stop being ridiculous.....and if the loss of a title is because of one player, then you can toss the management under the bus too as they allowed a team to become too dependant upon one player.

Yes JT at fault here we've all read the stories,no player should be bigger than the club but he thinks he is, we lost the CL because he wanted to be the hero and take the penalty when we had better penalty takers then JT,its time to move on does man city still want him?

There was better penalty takers ahead of him - one was Anelka who refused to take one. JT had the bottle on th biggest stage to take responsibility and if not for an unfortunate slip that ball was in the back of the net.

The whole Bridge thing is fair game however using the CL miss against him is bang out of order - how do you know whether the rest of the players were sticking their heads in the sand at the time. Another penalty taker wasn't on the park at the time because he had iditoically got sent off.

Add to that JT took and scored a penalty for England in eur0 2004 so its not like it was an entirely new experience.

I agree with your whole post, but that part is exactly what should be addressed if anyone is looking for sole person to blame that situation on.

btw, I didnt know that Anelka had stepped down....which further consolidates that JT is a fantastic captain, since he was willing to carry the load some of his teammates werent. Miss or no miss, thats leadership pure and simple.

We had bad games even before the whole Terry/Bridge story came out so to say that we would lose the title (if indeed we do lose it) because of that is just complete bollocks.

Terry has had good and bad games both before the story and after. The same goes for the team. Lampard has been below par most of the season (even if he has scored quite a few goals), injuries on key players have weakened us, the ACN didn't exactly help and Ancelotti have in some games been really bad.

So it's not all down to JT. Of course this whole affair hasn't exactly helped us, but I would not put the blame on JT.

"no player should be bigger than the club but he thinks he is"

Aliboy66, are you slightly mad or just an idiot?

Have Terry ever shown any signs of thinking he's bigger than the club?

If you ask me few players at Chelsea today have given as much for the club as JT have. Yes, he might have done mistakes, but who hasn't?

And what's wrong with taking a penalty? If he had scored, would you still say that "he thinks his bigger than the club"?

Load of rubbish

First its Drogba ,then its J.T. who's next , the fans ? Makes me laugh , some people have nothing better to do than have a go at 2 of the best players we've had at the club and who have won us trophies. Sure Drogba has his irritating moments but wasnt it only a few months ago there was a thread talking about him being a Chelsea legend ? John Terry is still for me the best centre half in english football, i wouldnt swap him for any other player The way he dealt with that penalty miss says a lot about his character as a player , the way he's performed after the scandal while getting an earful from rival fans and getting Man of the match but unfortunately his mistakes have obviously overshawoed all that by some people.

I dont for one miniute defend his sending off at Spurs, it was wreckless and unecessary but players , even the best make wrong decisions. As for Drogs ,Id have his name on the team sheet everyweek.

Anelka wouldn't take one, He said he hadn't been on the park long enough to be ready to take one. A striker who needs to play himself into a game before taking a penalty - seems odd to me. Especially as he had been on the park for over 10 minutes but Belletti who had been on the park for about 20 seconds scored one. Anelka then took the sudden death one and practically passed iot back to Van der Saar.

Jesus, now were castigating our captain for having the balls to step up and take a penalty in a massive final when others wouldnt? Fans like you dont deserve a f**king captain like him.
