Anelka sent home from WC?

Featured Replies

I was surprised to learn he was actually there in the first place. Now that I think about it, I thought I saw him on the pitch for a second or two during one of those matches.

Domenech is a clown, the hole French team probably dislikes him as a manager, pretty surprised Anelka was the one to go and have a bust up with him as he seems to be a very nice and calm guy.

Yeah honestly, who cares. Player power runs France. Instead of playing Ribery on the right and Malouda on the left as was the case four years ago, Ribery teared up and insisted he played on the left. Leaving Malouda to be in midfield without the likes of Lamps to do the leg work.

Domenech is a clown, Zidane saved them four years ago and his horrible managing should have been rewarded with a notice of dismissal after EURO2008. Nico can play as a lone striker as has been shown time and time again with us. But if you are incompetant, you end up in the situation France are in.

Good thing for Nico is that he won't cop the'Le Sulk' tags because he is right and everyone in France bar the FFF agrees with him. Why they continue to support Domenech noone knows.

I thought this tendency was all but gone once he came to us (and possibly even before that). Anelka strikes me as a very mild and almost timid guy. Whatever he said to Domenech, and in all probability he wasn't right to say it, I can't imagine it was unprovoked.

I hope it doesn't hurt his confidence, although I fear it would, at least in the short term. Let's hope he has a great vacation and comes back fresh with a point to prove to that incompetent loser, Domenech.

I think refusing to take the 5th penalty in the CL final shoot out because he had only just come on indicates that nothing much has really changed other than the fact that he has been settled at Chelsea. If that changes then I'm sure we will see the other side of him again.

For all we know that could have been an honest lack of confidence. And I think he finally settled at Chelsea because he cleaned his act up, not the other way around.

Just heard a rumour that Domenech has sent Anelka packing - anyone else heard this?

Just saw a reference to it on the official website...very diplomatically worded as usual.

Domenech is a very poor manager and it must annoy the hell out of certain players the way he has favourites and makes the rest of the team pander to their wishes.

However Anelka has been poor for France for a long time now and was drifting out of position the other night (just as he does for Chelsea time and time again) and therefore Domenech's criticism of his was pretty much spot on.

I can't get very excited about the incident. So Anelka is on his way home, Domenech is on his way out as France coach and France is on its way out of the World Cup. Enough said!

None of us knows what transpired between them that night and what the atmosphere in the team had been. If Domenech said something idiotic or caustic in a night of immense frustration, I can see and to a certain extent excuse Anelka's alleged reaction.

As for him drifting away from the center, anyone who has had a passing glimpse of Anelka playing in the last two years, will have known and expected this. Asking Anelka to stay at the tip of the attack all the time is like asking Berbatov to become faster.

Is it bad that this hasn't stopped me from wanting a France shirt with Anelka on the back? What the hell is wrong with me? I still want a Germany shirt with Ballack on too :(

France are a joke though, and so is Domenech IMHO

Apparently those alleged quotations from Anelka are not true. I heard he did disagree with Domenech, but he didn't tell him to "eff off", like some papers have claimed.
