Klose makes it 4-0. Diffferent class between the teams here. So much for the "South American Domination" that was meant to take place in this tournament

Germany were superb. They knew exactly how to play the Argentinians today. Schweinsteiger was superb, absolutely superb.

And the best part is that Messi - (the worlds greatest player?) didn't score a single goal the whole tournament .

Note to Diego: you may want to practice defense sometime.

The Argentina squad was all wrong no midfielders. Tevez and Messi were picking balls from their own half and trying to conjure up something impossible. Mascherano is only good at brining down players.

No link between defense and the forwards. Should have picked up Zanetti Cambiasso.

Maradona will go back to cocaine now. Schweinsteiger take a bow son. No one at the age of 25 would have done something as brilliant as that.

I didn't think Oezil was particularly good... he didn't really do all that much until after Argentina had already started to fall apart. I think it was Schweinsteiger and Khedira's silencing of Messi which really impressed me... they didn't just silence him, they attacked on the back of it as well.

Essien and Schweinsteiger might be an even better combination than that though...

the Argies were England in disguise - defence wide open, no imagination, no playmaker, no real attacks.

I hate to say it but the Ballack injury was the best thing to happen to Germany.

I dont think so, Ballack would have just slotted into the midfield along side Schweinsteiger instead of Khedira. He is a better passer and dangerous presence in the box. And never ever undermine Ballack's goal record with Germany, some 40 goals in 85-90 games. That is outstanding for a midfielder.

From the way Podolski and Klose have performed in this World Cup, they dont need to have a good club season.

Either way every player his merits.

I don't think Ballack would have killed them but I can't see them playing at this pace with Ballack in their lineup. His loss was greatly exaggerated, at least here in the US

Fair point about Klose and Podolski playing better for Germany though.

Germany are a case in point of the The Whole being more than the sum of its parts. players like Podolski, Klose, Friedreich etc havent been that good this season yet do a great job for their country, pretty much the opposite of players in the England squad. Mueller hadnt even made his debut for Bayern this time last year.

Perhaps we should view Englands performance in a different light now. At least we managed to score 2 goals against them.

The man who really impressed me was Mueller. Its a shame he will miss the semi against Spain.

The Germans took 20 minutes to break down England's defence and less than 5 minutes to score against Argentina who never llooked like penetrating Germany's defence. A tip of the hat to the German manager, Joachim Low. Schweinsteiger stuck it to Maradona and played brilliantly. He deserved MOM. I hope Ancelotti signs him for Chelsea.

How much was the scoreline down to the fat cheats failings as a coach do you think? Germany knew exactly how to handle the Argies attack and knew how to get beyond Mascherano and get at a weak defence.

I said whoever won this game would win the WC and I'm sticking to it. So it will be some consolation for England fans to know they were knocked out by the eventual winners.

I can come out of the closet now (with apols to Val) - Germany are my second team and I was rooting for them firmly today. But I truly can't see anyone getting past them now. The giveaway is their refusal to panic in defence - today when Argentina had that very excellent spell, there was some firm and decisive defending. Discipline, discipline, discipline - it can't be stressed too much.

I've been very impressed with Schweinsteiger, but to be honest Germany are a Team and apart from Ozil (who had a poorish game today by his standards so far) this victory was a collective effort.

Well done Germany - you deserved this! I , for one, am a very happy bunny and this was quality football :D

The spain players are an absolute disgrace, theyre surrounding the ref at EVERY SINGLE oppertunity Pique should have got a second yellow for arguing about the most blatent penalty in the history of the game

p.s. if spain go out tonight (and i hope they do) then we'll all get to see the biggest hissy fit of all time

Unfortunately not to be - Spain were pretty rotten tonight and the goal they got was a result of one of of the only, if not the only, real quality passing move they put together in the game.

Is there any other team at the world cup with more despicable, card waving, cheating, diving, horrible w**kers than Spain. every challenge was met by 3 or 4 rolls and waving of imaginary cards.
