Hutch Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 from imscouting.com Barcelona president set for showdown talks with Wenger over Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas Barcelona President Sandro Rosell arrived yesterday in South Africa with the intention of holding face-to-face talks with Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger over Cesc Fabregas According to Barcelona sources, the two will meet today, on the eve of the World Cup final. Rosell aims to try and persuade Wenger that to let his captain go, and according to El Mundo Deportivo, he will tell the Arsenal coach that the club is wiling to pay 45 million euros for Fabregas’ signature. The paper says the Barcelona president wants the meeting to be as discreet as possible so as not to unsettle Fabregas before the World Cup final Earlier this week, Rosell said he wanted to wrap up the deal for the Arsenal captain as quickly as possible. "It's now or never," Rosell told the Spanish Sport newspaper ahead of his trip to South Africa. "We'll do it fast, it cannot be drawn out any longer. I'll try to meet with [Arsenal Manager Arsene] Wenger, and we'll see what happens." LINK
BigIzz Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 That'd be tragic. In all seriousness though I don't really see how Fabergas fits at Barcelona. Xavi and Inestia make him rather redundant as I can't imagine you'd play all three together. Unless they doubt Inestias fitness over a whole season.

I believe the plan is to move Iniesta to the left wing, with Xavi and Cesc in the centre.

Since they are playing with three midfielders there's not much room for Fabregas. Xavi and Iniesta are first choices and the last place will probably go to Busquets or some other defensive midfielder. Sure, they can use Iniesta as a winger up front, but with Ibrahimovic, Bojan, Pedro, Messi and Villa I just can't see how that will work. Messi and Villa are first choices and I doubt they'd prefer to put a midfielder up there with them instead of Pedro. Even Bojan and possibly Ibrahimovic should be chosen ahead of Iniesta. Buying Fabregas would be a waste of money in my oppinion.

loz Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I believe the plan is to move Iniesta to the left wing, with Xavi and Cesc in the centre. I think that is exactly the plan which is one of the reasons they have no interest in keeping Henry
Andreas Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) I think that is exactly the plan which is one of the reasons they have no interest in keeping Henry Really think their plan is to play Villa out wide if they dont manage to sell Ibra somehow, which I doubt. Don't really know what they are thinking atm, i expect them to play something like this atleast. --------Busquets------- ----Xavi---------Iniesta- Messi--------------Villa--- ------------Ibra------------ Edited July 11, 2010 by AndyCFC

PloKoon13 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 This could mean Pedro might become available soon.
dkw Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 This could mean Pedro might become available soon. Would sign him in a flash, every time ive seen him he has looked superb (not just the world cup, but all last season in La Liga)

Xavi and Inestia make him rather redundant as I can't imagine you'd play all three together. Unless they doubt Inestias fitness over a whole season. Their transfer policy is pretty bizarre at times, like when they bought Henry when they had absolutely no shortage of attacking talent. When they want a player they seem to be so single minded about getting him it doesnt really matter where they fit. In Fabregas, though, I think they see a player who slipped through their fingers, and Xavi's long term replacement.
Maximus Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 "All I can say is that this is for all the Arsenal players and fans, they are a world-class club. I am an Arsenal player and I am proud to be." link here1 Speaking on TF1, the national French Television Station, Wenger told viewers he has spoken to the Barcelona President, Sandro Rosell, and told him in no uncertain terms that Cesc is not for sale. gibbo1990 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I think it might be a change of shape if Fabregas goes to Barca something like... Busquets Xavi Iniesta Fabregas Messi Villa

dkw Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Hmmmmm Reina was doing mini-speeches about each player, Smithy quotes what he said about Cesc a few posts up. Then a couple of the Spain players put a Barça shirt on Cesc and he gets emotional, pulls away from the group with the mic and goes back to the main group and takes off the shirt. And this is what Reina said about him on stage: Quote:Barça's future, Spain's future, Cesc Fabregas
TheWestwayWonder Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Oops, forgot about this thread. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C36LisjvNuA&feature=player_embedded I almost feel bad for Fabregas. He is sort of wearing an embarrassed "cmon, f**k off" look on his face, like he doesnt wanna be a jerk for ruining the joke, but he doesnt feel right doing that. I thought it was strange that Reina of all people saying doing that. I would bet Puyol and Pique put him up to it, just so it wasnt a Barca player saying it directly. Eitherway, for gooners, its just one more thing to piss them off about this saga
BlueDay Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Arse fan will be frothing at the mouth at that video! Love it
Maximus Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Cucking funts.. Its spain winning the worldcup - I cannot believe they brought barca FC shirt and catalonia agenda into it. Arse fan will be frothing at the mouth at that video! Love it I wonder what the rest of the spain thinks about it.
Maximus Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Here's what fabregas says: "These are things that happen at special moments, and I don't think it should be gone on about much more because it was just another anecdote of a great night, a great celebration," the Arsenal midfielder said. "There are times we do not even know what we do, so everything can be forgiven. Pepe took me there [to the front of the stage], the truth is that I didn't know anything like that was going to happen and so I was a bit surprised. At first I thought it was a flag or something, but it's nothing. You had to enjoy it and if it's a way to have fun, it's nothing." Fábregas grew slightly more serious when questioned further about where he will be playing next season. "I think now the less said about the subject the better, because these things are worse for everyone when they come to light and people talk more about the matter. Right now we have to be very calm and what will be will be."

I wonder what the rest of the spain thinks about it. Nothing should be shocking about it at this point....they are allowed to do what they want, and if you try to stop them you get lambasted. Its only a matter of time before Blatter is suggesting Fabregas is just like an African slave for being kept at your club. Between this, the sprinkers against Inter, their financial problems, and Sergio Busc**ts, Barca have hardly covered themselves in glory this year, have they? Quick, better make some highly visible donation to charity to get back in good graces again.

Maksimov Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 How can Barcelona afford to buy players at the moment? http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jul/14/barcelona-loan-santander-la-caixa That's not exactly small change, is it? If they're struggling to pay the wages, how can they afford to pay for the transfer fees?
Maximus Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 link "Arsenal feels very hurt by Barca," said Rosell to Catalan TV3. "They don't want to listen to offers or sell and they are not putting the player (Fabregas) on the market. There was a strong dispute a few months ago and they have not forgotten it." Barca had a reported 29million euro bid for the Spain international turned down by the London-based outfit earlier this summer. Continued reports in Spain that Fabregas will play for Barca next season have hindered relations between the two clubs but Rosell remains confident the 23-year-old midfielder will wear Barca's colours in the near future. "He (Fabregas) will arrive, even if it is not now, it will be next year," said Rosell. "We will see. "One thing that is certain is that we will not go mad trying to sign him. "No shareholder would pay 60 or 70million euros for him. "We will not go all out for him. "We would only pay his value in the transfer market." Fabregas is under contract with Arsenal until June 2015 Wait till 2015 then......
