You could read into that:

1/ Clubs asking too much for players (Luiz, Torres, any Bayern player)

2/ Player wanting too much wages (Aguero)

Perhaps Roman learned his lesson of forcing players on managers.

I'm actually reasonably confident that Ramires (assuming all of that gets sorted out) will be last signing of the summer. The squad is fairly well full if you include the additions of the young guys Carlo mentioned at the end of last season (Matic, Kakuta etc.)

So is it all hyperbole that Roman to spend big on torres.kaka.aguerro.....woild like to see us make a dent in the market, and at least make citeh take notice.

To be honest I am pleased we are not going for Kaka, that rumour has a real Sheva feel to it. Torres, although a super striker, is so injury prone. Aguero would be nice though. And if Drogba gets a long term injured I don't fancy our other strikers to carry us through, especially in the champs league. With Aguero, or even Suarez (horrible little cheat, but super player) I would see a huge improvement in the front line.

Agree, I think Ramires will be the last. Not especially excited about him, but not really seen him play.

I doubt we were ever interested in half the big name players that we have been linked with, i also dont think we need to make citeh take notice of us.....were the champions and thier playing catch up.

I do not want this club spending 50million pounds on an injured f'ing player, it is not going to happen !

Ramires for 20million seems great to me, lets get this one tied down and move onto the season.

f**k the tabloids !

Do you think he will be the icing on the cake that wins the champs league?

if we dont sign ne1 but ramires il be v disappointed, we'l hav a weaer team than last year. still cud win the league if big guns stay fit, as man u havent really strengthened there squad that much either, we wont do anything in champs league our front line is only second rate compared to barca inter madrid, how many of drogba anelka or malouda would get in those teams, drogba maybe? surely carlo should make a decision on which formation he will favour next year, if its 442 then we need aguero n ozil, and if its 433 we need someone pacey n wit a trick to start ahead of anelka, not sure who but neymar could be the player, balotelli hazard ozil who knows. not got good feeling bout this window bit similar to robinho summer, sold swp, left most important signing to last minute, n lost out n even if it was a blessing in disguise( which i dont think it was) it didnt look good n we got hammerd for missing out on our main target. remember the good old days when we'd have cech robben drogba etc signed by july!

We are very welcoming to Chelsea fans of all nationalities however I'm afraid we may need a little help translating that.

The Site Rule number 12 might be worth a quick look (see the link just under the banner on the right hand side)

Well, what would you say we lacked last season?

The only things we lacked at any point in my view were, a bit more pace in midfield (especially with the Mikel, Ballack, Lampard combo), which is exactly what Ramires would add, and we occasionally lacked a killer pass, and that creative spark. He might not add the latter, but he'll certainly add the first. Torres would add neither, Kaka would add both, but only if he plays well, which there is no guarantee of, and not that great a chance of in my opinion, and Aguero would add a spark, maybe not with a killer pass, but it'd be there through his dribbling and trickery. McEachran might be the one to add the spark, so could Kakuta, but again, no guarantee they'll be ready.

I think Ramires would be a useful addition... not headline grabbing, but very good, and I must say an improvement in something we lacked last season, not that we lacked much, mind.

I'm convinced we need a few new signings.

Our top priority is an attacking midfielder.

We also need a versatile defender who can play in the centre or at wing back.

If Cech were to get injured for any period of time we'd be in trouble.

I've lost faith in Turnbull. Hilario is borderline.

A couple of good signings at reasonable prices shoiuld be the order of the day.

I'll leave it to Carlo to decide who he wants to bring in.

Transition period?

Blending the youngsters into the first team squad, and edging out the older players (Carvalho if he stays, Ferreira and possibly Anelka).

Carlo seems to be building us for the future with out pouring loads of money down the drain. Good lad :)

I'd prefer to make perhaps the Ramires signing, and then no one else, win the title, and then show City how its done. Not that I have an overriding hatred of City or anything, but it'd be sweet to beat them out again, considering the money they've thrown around, and our relatively low spending attitude the past few years.

i dont really thin this is shocling news as carlo outlined his plans with the reserve players sam could be ideal if he gets games

id love just one new attack minded player hell id love it more if kakuta can make the jump

you all know the type of player i mean sum1 who can amaze deffenders laugh at midfielders and baffle the keeper

I won't panic if we don't sign anybody besides Benayoun, but I won't be overjoyed, either.

Yes, we still have a great team filled with quality and depth, coming off the season when we won the historic double.

But if you look at our squad you'll notice that most of our key players are in their 30s and that day when they'll start declining isn't far away. Terry's body has been through a lot and while he's never relied on speed only the blind man would say he is still as good as he was three-four years ago. Lamps and Drogba are still going strong but for how long?

Look at Fergie still clinging onto the veterans like Giggs ,Scholes and Neville, whose "sell by" date was years ago. That's what we're looking at couple of years from now if we don't make improvements. I would love for our youngsters to come big this season and hopefully they'll see more chances to prove themselves this time around but experience tells us we'll be lucky to have one or two make a real impact at this stage.

To put it shortly, at some point we'll need to spend a bit more than we'd like to.

My view is very clear. CFC is a business the exising investment, lets say the average value of a 15 player squad is around 15-20 m pounds lets go with 20, then that's 300 m. To get into the CFC first team you basically are going to have proved your ability somewhere else and so most of them will be 25 or older when they first play for the team. I know there are exceptions like Mikel.

Those guys probably have an average of 7-8 years at the top level, certainly at age 34 the majority will be moved on for say 20% of their starting value. Call it 4 m.

So really we need to be spending 25-30 m a year just to maintain the squad quality.

Over the last 3 years we have bought Zhirkov, Anelka and Ivanovic who feature regularly.

This year we have lost Ballack and Cole who played regularly, Deco and Belletti that played often enough.

So far we have replaced them with just Yossi and probably Ramires.

It seems clear to me that in total our strength is down on last year at this point, even before considering that the rest of the starting 11 is a year older. People like Lampard, Carvalho, Drogba and Anelka will start to go downhill and at an accelerating pace.

Of the very young guys is there any that are clearly worth a starting position and would be regarded as being ahead of Ballack and Cole if they were still here?

Maybe the reaility is that most other teams will also be weaker. That may be true in England but its pretty clear that Real Madrid and Barcelona will be a lot stronger.

So without further investment, and I know it doesn't guarantee success, I think we can kiss thoughts of the CL goodbye.

There is no doubt, as it stands, the team is weaker...

But then, we don't know what could happen if we regularly gave youngsters gametime. They could prove to be gems, ready for first team, and they couldn't show that last season because of the players that we've now lost, that were here.

Who knows?

Probably need at least one more signing for a bit more security...but if we don't sign anyone, it is virtually a guarantee that some players will be asked to step up, on a fairly regular basis.

I wouldnt necessarily say the team is weaker, more the squad is though even that is debatable if we get Essien and bosingwa back for a full season. We have lost 3 squad players and gained one, with possibly a couple of youngsters promoted.
