The Brit Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 no rumour of a move, just a question...apparently he's just been put on the transfer list at Newcastle after failing to agree new deal and as he has only one year left so will be pretty cheap...he's english so will help the club fulfil the quota of home growns etc...was a very promising defender a few years ago, not sure how much he has progressed, but as we have lost ricky, he could add to the squad...mind you it would be a kick in the teeth for bruma
High Street Ken Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I'd rather have him than some expensive, unproven at Prem level, foreign show-pony. He seems to have lost his way a bit but I'm sure we have the coaching staff to get the best out of him. He'd be way down the pecking order though (just below Micky Droy!)
PloKoon13 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I'd say that he isn't even close to Chelsea standard. I'd rather let Bruma keep his place in the pecking order.
Cam Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Yeah, he's not Chelsea standard I don't think... But if he was really cheap, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing how the Chelsea coaches could develop his game...and he would help the quota.... Well, really I'm torn...don't know how useful he'd actually be...or how much he'd block other youngsters.
ethicalstrategy Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I was thinking the same thing. If Ivanovic is going to be required at right back in Bosingwa's continued absence and Bruma is recovering from an op then we are potentially a bit short at centre half. He might make a good back up.
Hutch Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 i can't see a much point to this. Newcastle have placed him on the list now because he'll be available on a free next summer. and besides: He is currently out with a shoulder problem which is expected to keep him out for the first three months of the campaign. Gem Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Argh... Yes I would... I'd rather we give Bruma a go however. I'm torn, because I do think he could do a job for us. It won't happen though - and if that means Bruma gets game time then I'm happy with that.
Wolfy Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I would love to see him at the club as apparently the alternative is going to be Burdisso. I think he will do a job for us and I'm a little suprised no one else here seems to rate him.
chelseabootboy Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 think he wil be out on his arse at newcastle anyway he had a spat with caroll who rumoured to have broke his jaw/hurt him??? cause he slept with his girl/wife?? f**k knows if its true as i don't listen to this sh*t anymore as the press make most of the sh*t up anyway..
Bobbywoodhogan Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 We should sign him, in the right team he will become a class player
bjd Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Very good player, with more to come from him too and certainly would be good enough to earn a place in the squad. We just don't need him though.
Planet Drogba Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 To be honest, I'd much rather him than Burdisso or Demichellis and he'll also come much cheaper. I don't think I even need to go into age or that he'll help out with the home-grown rule. Since Ancelotti seems to be going after center backs (or so the rumors say) then that must mean that Bosingwa is going to be out for a while or that he'll need a long time to regain fitness, meaning Ivanovic will have to deputize at right back. In that case, we really only have Bruma as back up for Alex and Terry, or I guess we could use Paulo and then slide Ivan in. Regardless, I'm not really confident in either for big games. So yeah if we can get him cheap, why not?
Spiller86 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Always been a big fan of this guy. I've no idea why Newcastle have him on the transfer list. (Well actually I do it's because Andy Carroll broke his jaw last season, and for some reason they think he is the next Shearer.) He is a bit in the JT mould in my opinion, that lead by example, body on the line type of player, a style I think everyone loves. For those reasons, at Newcastle a choice between Taylor and Colocinni or Campbell isn't a choice at all as far as I'm concerned. But at Chelsea it's a bit of a different manner. On one hand I think right now we're short one quality (seasoned) centre back. Terry and Alex and among the best central partnerships in the world, but Ivan is still going to be playing right back a lot while Bosingwa returns to full fitness and form and I'm not convinced Bruma should be thrown to the wolves in his first season as a first team player. In that way perhaps Taylor given the way he plays could be an asset. However, on the other hand. The addition of another centre back as I've said in other threads (particularly one who isn't going to be first choice) seemingly just holds back the development of our other centre halves. Bruma and Mancienne (has he gone on loan?) and to a lesser extent Ivanovic aren't going to develop into safe as houses, hard as f**k defenders if we don't let them play there. I guess in conclusion, it perhaps doesn't make sense because he doesn't strengthen the backline that much but he would take up a spot that Mancienne, Bruma and Van Aanholt could use to further develop their games. That said, I'm a big fan of the player in general and I'm sure his style of play would make him a favourite of mine if he were to come.
TheWestwayWonder Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) I like Steven Taylor, but he strikes me as a guy that is tailor (harhar) made for a team like Everton or Villa. He is 24, going on 25 and if he was put at the back of a solid, organized team he could really come into his own as a very good defender. If he came here, that kinda of potential wouldn't be reached. Obviously that means he has got some quality, but we have capable youngsters ready to fill the role of emergency cover, and for far less money and no transfer fee. It doesnt really make sense for us or really for him. Edited August 26, 2010 by TheWestwayWonder
