Chelsea draw up striker shortlist for January transfer window

One of these forwards will end up at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are set splash the cash on a top class striker in January and have narrowed down their list to three options.

The Blues have been suffering a goal drought of late which has seen them lose their lead at the top of the Premier League table and slip down to fourth. While the absence of Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba's bout of malaria have not helped, the lack of goals from other sources in the last few weeks is concerning manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Owner Roman Abramovich has given the Italian the green light to spend some money when the transfer window reopens. Top of the list is Ajax's Luis Suarez who shot to infamy during the recent World Cup due to his handball for Uruguay against Ghana but his three strikes in the tournament often get overlooked. A classy finished who is equally adept at creating chances as scoring them, he would be an asset to any side and could be available for a cut price £15m dues to the Dutch club's financial difficulties.

The second option is Newcastle's Andy Carroll. The 21-year-old has netted 12 times for the Magpies this season and has emerged as the hottest young striker in English football. His aerial dominance couple with his quick feet make him an attractice option for Chelsea who like to play with a central target man that can outmuscle opposition defenders.

Fernando Llorente is the final name on the list. The Athletic Bilbao hitman is behind only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the goalscoring charts in La Liga while he has found the back of the net regularly for Spain as well. A traditional centre forward with an eye for goal, he would slot in perfectly at Stamford Bridge and negate the over-reliance on Drogba.

I think we could sign one or two new players in January, but after the years of spending hardly a bean (Wolves have spent more than we have), I don't think we'll set our sights too high.

Possibly a (cut-price) striker and another midfielder.

I rate all three...but hate the first two...don't know much about Llorente if I'm honest.

Haven't seen a lot of La Liga lately :(

Llorente is excellent.

All 3 are great players. Llorente is going to Real though.

Agree with what you say about Suarez, he make Ronoldo look like a good sport.

Luis Suarez.

I wouldnt want anything to do with him, but he is the type of player I would like. Not just a forward, a 'no. 10' who likes to drop back and dictate the offensive play, too.

To me, buying a standard striker would just be a waste of money when there isnt much to go around. Alternately, a forward who is also comfortable on the wing would be great too.

none of the above please, we need a player who can play out wide more than another target man, we should focus on neymar, and David luiz, and hopefully another midfielder like hamsik who admittedly would be an ambitious target. Don't think we should be signing stop gap players unless we were struggling to get champions league spot. whether we spend now or in the summer we should be looking at the above players and people like, gourcuff, pastore, lukaku, subotic, and hazard. anelka and kalou were shocking again today. The time for change is fast approaching.

Agree with most of all of this. I do think we need to go for someone to replace Drogba as he'll be done for soon. The same can be said of Anelka too. So a playmaker, and Lukaku would be good.

I like Hamsik and he's constantly doing a good job at Napoli. I think we missed the boat on Sneijder, Van Der Vaart, and Silva. All the type of player I think we should go for.

The main thing I agree with you on though, is we should not be signing stop gap players. we should be buying now with an eye on the future

Agree with Lukaka, but Suarez could do that job out wide also. He's is a class act, despite being a bit of a dick.

You've just named Suarez in your second paragraph. He played right wing for Ajax last season essentially and for Uruguay as well. The old Dutch League inflated goals figure is perhaps an issue, but he scored in Europe and for Uruguay as well. If we spend money on anyone substantial then he is a good candidate and with Ajax in the toilet money wise, he could be gotten.

Just on him being an undesirable. A couple of incidents get you a reputation these days but I don't care about that. Most would have said Anelka was a prick before he joined us, most would say Drogba still is. We're not here to win popularity contests. If he scores I'll like him. Hell I still wish we had of gotten Alves back in 2006 and he is the c**titiest of c**ts. Perhaps I'm different to everyone else.

Van der Wiel and Aguero simples! sign lukaka and loan back.

Cech

Van der Wiel Ivan Terry Cole

Ramires Essien Lampard

Aguero Drogba Malouda

Aguero, Van der Wiel and Lukaku you say? No worries I'll just get my wallet...

Suarez is just like Anelka, a striker who can just about play out wide. The other two are beanpoles of strikers. I'd really like an ultra-fast winger. Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard come to mind. Not at the biggest of clubs either. New striker can wait till summer at least

Hazard would be good

van der wiel is an excellent shout if were gonna move ivanovic in permanently, and he would be available for around 10 to 15 mil. didn't realise suarez played wide as aswell as a few people have mentioned. if he plays wide and plays it naturally (unlike anelka) then I'd be all for him. don't think he's as bad a person as people are making out. I'd want any one of our players to do what he did in the world cup!

We should still be looking at Aguero!

he had his chance to come he can go shove his 200k a week wage up his ass.

Well....the topic title says it all. We are not going after Suarez, van der Wiel etc in January. My bet would be Adam Johnson. He is not the happiest guy in City right now and will not cost us a fortune. And he can play in CL as well as I remember Nico played although he came us from Notlob who played in Europa league as well then. There are some other young lads like Albrighton or Jarvis but they are not yet ready for the big games imo.

Opinions about players change so quickly. Stephen Ireland was going to be a star and now?

Some unhappy folk at Man C today so Tevez and Adam Johnson might be possibilities. Tevez could start in the first team which is the only thing worth going about and man c. are not cup tied.

Llorentes I like but CFC don't have any spanish players and if we are staying with Carlo, as I hope, then Italian or Brazilian is more logical.

These guys have to either have some english or some friednds at the club. Its a lot more than just fitting in on the field.

We do need a new striker. Whether January is the time I hope so.

Drogba, Anelka, Kalou and Sturridge. Do we really need a 5th striker? Sturridge is not scoring much but he is a very good backup IMO.
