Carlo: should he go or should he stay? (merged)

Chelsea will judge the performance of manager Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season, chief executive Ron Gourlay has told BBC's Sportsweek programme.

Ancelotti won the Double in his first season but Chelsea were knocked out of two cups and have failed to keep pace with Manchester United this campaign.

"Carlo has a contract until end of 2012," Gourlay told the BBC.

"Let's see where we are at the end of May then we'll judge the coach and other people at the football club."

Taken from a piece on the BBC site, Gourlay also says the following:-

He added: "I don't see Drogba leaving at all. We're talking of strengthening team not weakening it. It's absolutely not the case."
"Roman is ambitious as he has ever been," he said.

"Money is available for strengthening and with one eye on the future. We're driven if there are the correct players available at the right time. Fernando and David became available at the right time and therefore the process kicked in.

Looks like its gonna be a busy summer....

Why does he have to come out and say things like that at this stage of the season ?

Anyway, goodbye and thanks Carlo.

The timing isnt the best is it, though I suppose Carlo will already know this anyway. But saying it in an interview isnt a great idea.

Looks like it could be a very ineresting and dissapointing summer.

It will be interesting to see where the money that is available will be going but hugely dissapointing that it looks like Carlo is going.

The writing's been on the wall for sometime now - probably since the sacking of Ray Wilkins against Carlo's wishes. Here we go again. Roman should understand that we need stability. But that means that he has to choose the right man and then leave him alone to do the job.

He's just been sacked.

We're not going to do well now.

Ron Gourlay should be sacked himself. He's an idiot.

Undermine the manager and give the players an easy way out. Well done, Ron.

It's embarrassing that we pay this man to ruin our season. Which I'm pretty sure he has effectively done with this comment.

I won't be reading between the lines on what he's quoted as saying, if what he's said is something like that then whoever sits down to assess the Managers performance over the seaswon also has to think about the circumstances leading to the drop in form that led to a bad three month spell i.e the injuries the cutbacks including the letting go of players that surely would have helped us get through the worst injury patch and suspensions, the fact that with two new signings the Manager has to integrate them into the team and get the best out of them (never easy with January signings) trying different systems formations all in the latter stages of a season instead of over the summer where he could afford to make more mistakes.

I don't have great faith in romans ability to look beyond silverware but surely he must have learned something from his years here and he now has a manager proven in the premiership who after a great start to the season found the squad a bit thin to keep the challenge going, he has steadied things and we are again the team in the accendancy in the league (todays result is big in this department) we are in the last eight of the CL and should we get past UTD for me that should guarentee Carlo another season.

I think he deserves a close season and a couple more additions which would be better if they were of his choosing, I don't know what top class manager would want to come here knowing he doesn't choose the transfer targets, he has to force players not chosen for him into his team and even if he does the Double in his first season, half way through his second fans and board alike could easily be identifying his successor.

I'll be guted if a proven good Manager who without complaint has served Roman under huge pressure and with immense dignity is let go so we can bring in someone else who will get new players in the summer to add to the latest two signings and likley have a good first season to make it look like a good decision, my feeling is although I don't think Carlo is perfect, he would do just as good as anyone we could bring in if not better and he would do it with the added stability the club needs of a longer term manager, he would not cause any unrest with Roman(we don't know how any other big name coach would take to the owners meddling) and he would if he had another good season next year at last have proved there is life after Jose...something the next man after an initial bit of success will find hard to prove.

Unless it's Jose Mourinho we go backwards.

I honestly don't even think Carlo has done a particularly good job this season and it times he looks forlorn. But if you are going to give him cash his standing in the game will attract great players, and with re-newed enthusiasm we'll must likely win the league next year with good investments.

"Let's see where we are at the end of May then we'll judge the coach and other people at the football club."

That was the answer, but what was the question?

Good point, without knowing what the question was, it's difficult to judge the context of the reply.

Saw Gourlay and Capello sitting next to each other at todays game on the t.v.Haven't seen a bigger pair of t*ts since my neighbour bent over in her low cut top to pick up my car keys.

Pics? :D

Roman chose Carlo himself, and we courted him for so long before he decided to come that I find it extremely bizarre for us to ditch him so soon, especially after he won us the double last season and has guided us into the CL quarterfinals this season.

But then again, maybe we are all reading too much into this. He said we'll reassess things at the end of the season, which I guess is bog standard language for a suit. Some like to keep their managers on their toes.

Cheers,

Butch

Carlo's never been the right man and never will be.

The Carlo who won us our first ever double last season? Yeah, never be the right man.

The bbc is saying that Carlo's gone regardless of results but it's only a link to Ian McGarrys twitter not sure who he is being scottish  So I don't know if he talks about us in a positive or negative light? And also if it's just his twitter surely thats nothing more than an opinion and shouldn't be making the news :o

It also has Carlo mentioning he's lucky too still have a job, bit of an odd time to say that, maybe he's trying to tell us something? I hope not :JC_doubledown:
