February 22, 20224 yr Pretty sure this has been posted before just too Tottenham for mine and I'm sure everyone else's liking. Selhurst Park is a strange ground could hold 50,00 plus in the early 70's early 80's it was half that think it's probably the ground I've been to most apart from the Bridge with them sharing with Wimbledon and briefly Charlton.
February 23, 20224 yr Match Report from the Glasgow Herald, 13th August 1965. Match Advert. bluehaze: Your team picture was I’m sure taken before this match. The official attendance is given as 36,000! Yet Hampden looks quite full from what can be seen in the picture!!

February 23, 20224 yr From 79 -81 I only missed a handful of home games this was one of them and I was always partial to a Westles hot dog.

Anyone who was at our game against Spurs in the same season will know what exactly what they went through we had to jump over the fence to escape the crush the same happened against Arsenal the same year. I remember the Chelsea Independent saying at the final whistle there were loads of trainers and shoes at the front of the Park Lane where people had lost them in the crush. When we played Spurs that season it was early in the season don't know when Newcastle played them but obviously the old bill didn't learn their lesson or more likely just didn't gave a toss about football fans. Two great photos. I stand to be corrected but the top photo is, I think, the 87 match which we lost 1-0 to a goal in the last couple of minutes, scored by Nico Claesen; he thought it was a smart move to celebrate in front of us rammed in the front of the Park Lane end - he got a torrent of abuse straight out of the top drawer. The lower photo is, I think, the 84 match which was a draw 1-1; kick off at 1130am, all ticket, and an atmosphere not unlike the Sunderland LC SF a year later. In heaven when King Kerry put us in front early on. Bit lively on Seven Sisters Road afterwards, a few of troops went for post match refreshments in the pub opposite Victoria Station which was always a Chelsea pub, and a meeting point for the South East London CFC boys for London away days.

It could be but loads of Newcastle fans commented on it saying it was against them I stumbled on it not sure if I could find it again. They said that day they got run by Chelsea who were outside Shakes as they got off the coach at Victoria others said they had it with our boys. Just Googled it was a cup game it's on Youtube and the Park Lane is rammed obviously I'm not going to post a Spurs game on here 😆 Edit just found it. https://twitter.com/Awaydays23/status/1495839537217642500/photo/1 Edited February 23, 20224 yr by bluehaze

Yep that crush in August 87 was horrendous, we’ve all experienced crushes in the Shed etc, but this was something else, lost my mate who drove up in first half, and fortunately found him after game (no mobiles in those days obviously) to cap it all Classen scored in last 5 mins, the following June 88 met a bloke in Corfu and he’d been at game and pretty much said same about the crush. Will be all civilised on Sunday at Wembley won’t even be able to take Celery in!
February 25, 20224 yr Someone on a nostalgia site said they were watching this and noticed an ad behind the goal that said Watch Vanessa X now so he looked it up and it was a porno shows how skint we were then.🤣

Biggest crushes I remember were QPR Boxing days in that poxy School End terrace, Grimsby 84, and for some reason the Bovril Gate slipway before Liverpool in 78 ( Borota's debut. Plus maybe Cambridge in 82 I think. Talking of Grimsby that was without doubt the hottest I've been at football what with the combination of a warm day plus ram jammed in like sardines.
February 26, 20224 yr In terms of crushes at home, Boro and Charlton in the play offs, I thought the Shed was well overloaded. Probably a combo of tailgating at the turnstiles and Bates being greedy and extending the official capacity. PS Tailgated the Villa Cup Final at Wembley, but eventually got slung out by stewards when they sussed there was some ' seat sharing' occuring.

I was at the Borota game me and my mate got badly crushed in the Shed put him off going for a couple of years we hit the post in the first minute God knows what would have happened if we scored. Spurs and Arsenal 87 were really bad especially cause both could have been avoided Arsenal could quite easily have opened the segregated bit the Spurs game I've commented on. Fulham 83 bad crush getting in used to happen a lot Villa Park 93 me and my mate had to go in the Holte End bad crush and as usual only a couple of gates open. Luton 1980 me and my mate got badly crushed although partly our fault we queued up in the adults gates schoolboys was round the corner paying full price as well was another kick in the nuts although I'll never forget some blokes saw we were getting crushed and stopped everyone and made space for us to get in. It was new years day morning every geezer there was still pissed and ice on the terraces and we couldn't see the top of the goal but still a hell of a day out. Numerous times it's happened those were the worst I can recall from the top of my head.
February 26, 20224 yr Got locked out of Borota game. Still got crushed with people trying to force the big wooden gates by the pavement. Used to be some great surge’s just trying to get in! Especially when the horse’s wanted a p*^s or a s**t!! From a distance you’d think it was kicking off!! Highbury 84 87 Brighton 83 Others mentioned I saw but was either in seats or Grimsby was in paddock at the side. worst crush for me was in my first season 77/78 at Earl’s Court. When you’re young remember to jump in the air as the surge will take you through the doors! I tried to walk and went between the train an platform up to my chest. Was really scared as was my brother, he got platform staff to make sure train didn’t leave until I was pulled out. Platform was so crowded guard wouldn’t have seen, no cctv back then. Was pulled out by fans got given a seat on the next train!

I was in the Shed with a mate that day. As 13 year-olds, we got in quite early and even then had to stand on the gangway steps rather than the terrace itself. About 30 mins before kick-off, a senior plod come down the steps and got eveyone to jam onto the terrace like sardines. Everywhere was packed that day, especially the Benches which were pretty much all standing towards the North end. When the Shed gate swung open at the final whistle and the lads ran on the pitch, there was a huge surge towards the fences where we were. Somehow I managed to hang on to my mate as everyone hurtled forward. Never experienced that before. Not like being on the pitch for a concert at Wembley a year later. With no fences or crush barriers, the lateral movement of the crowd means that everyone moves, walks and sways about 3 or 4 steps to the left - and then they all sway 3 or 4 steps back to the right where they came from. In doing so, you're constantly treading on people's ankles or feet. If you lose your footing and fall, there's nothing to stop anyone being trampled.

Getting into Sunderland milk cup semi in 85 the crush trying to get into Bovril gate turnstile and also the crush near the tea bar that night, but as a 15 year old that night will always stick with me, a school mate came with me and over the years lost contact with him, hadn’t spoken for 30 years but got in contact last year via Facebook that night was topic of conversation within 5 minutes of us talking!!
February 28, 20224 yr A friendly match at The Bridge v my local side Greenock Morton. A 6 - 1 win for us. Our scorers were Bridges 3, Shaw, Mulholland and Brown witnessed by 6,492 spectators. My Uncle lived near The Bridge at this time and was at this match. He was a regular at The Bridge back then. Interesting programme, well to me anyway !😀. Usual apologies if this has already been posted. A Single card programme. Edited February 28, 20224 yr by erskblue
March 1, 20224 yr The beginning of the end of that great team ? can't believe it was 50 years ago. As we were mentioning crushes this one could have been a lot worse than it was also Icky and his gorilla mask day. Didn't go in 78 or the 7-3 in 79 but did go the next couple of seasons Fillery scored a 35 yard screamer.
March 1, 20224 yr As far as crushes go there is only one contender for me. The Paxton Road in 1975 . That was quite frightening, luckily I was a big strong lad of eighteen and managed to stay at the top of the terrace, lots of people getting crushed down the bottom. If I remember correctly they closed the gates an hour before kick off with many thousands locked out.
