we got out the car near where the away coaches parked, and I've never known anything like it, or since, if you could of bottled that atmosphere. It just felt hostile from the start. Getting in through the bovril gate was utter carnage, took over half an hour and the crush second to none (only spurs away in 1987 compared crushes) My school mate came, and when we got into school the next day (5th year) we were part celebraties for being there the night before.

On side note I lost contact with my mate after we left school and only couple of years ago did we touch base again, 36 years after that game, the first thing I sent him was a picture and an article on the infamous Milk cup Semi final.

Even to this day going to the bridge for an evening game, nothing ever compares to that night

The Sunderland and Full Members I've posted about on a few occasions so not going to again. I agree with you about Spurs 87 same season against Arsenal was the same. You're right about the carnage but the best atmosphere at Chelsea I've ever experienced  was this night proper Chelsea geezers our age getting their first taste of European football all of us too young for the early 70's.

Yes, that Bruge night was exceptional atmosphere without doubt, would be nice to think Madrid in a few weeks will similar, sadly not though

No chance my friend to many tourists taking selfies when you think we had the temporary shed as well that night. Me and my mate necking back beer 10 minutes before the kick off this wasn't a quick pint in the White Hart the tube got delayed and we were outside the offie opposite the West Stand drinking Super Tennants cause that was all that was left in the shop 😂

Sunderland game started the day about 10 o clock, got in the queue in the North stand considerably later, seem to remember some discord near the turnstiles, the queue was almost all Chelsea. Somebody said West Ham were here many went back out onto Fulham rd further discord, our essex friends melted into the night. Got to the Pelican and they had gone,  went back to try and get in and the gates had shut. Strangely seem to remember a coach load of Sunderland somehow appearing being aghast at what they had just seen. How the coach got down Fulham rd i do not know, also had to tell them the gates had shut.

We then where a bit stuck and went to the Black Bull, many famous faces seemed to have chosen not to go to the game other things were happening later.

Sometimes you just knew it was going to kick off if the result went wrong. It was more of riot than a fighting night, though there was a lot of bad feeling consequent to the first leg- coaches having windows put through- my younger brother and his lot had to fight for their lives making their way back to the minibus- me older brother was a copper on duty for that game and Sheffield Wednesday in the previous round- Sunderland got attacked as soon as they dissenbarked on Imperial.Rosd- many decided to stay on the coaches rather than go to the game which is baffling seeing as they'd travelled 300 miles odd. Don't know how many West Ham got off at Parsons Green and walked to Fulham.Broadway- heard reports between 80 and 200. After the game we couldn't get anywhere near the platform.at Parsons Green. There must have been 500 on the platform.and another 1000 outside- In terms of actual.fighting as opposed to rioting- nothing comes close to Millwall 95 in my experience. The forecourt was a free for all before kick off, side streets and New Kings Road by the petrol station after- there was an article in Evening Standard after which reported that there was a mass punch up on The Whitechapel.Road at 11 PM. The supervising copper remarked that they were totally out manoeuvred

Yes such a shock. 20,000 or so Old Bill served met at the time. Large percentage of them.football fans.. he was based at Wandsworth Nick.and being a Chelsea fan volunteered for football. Got paid to watch his team. My best mates old man was also OB who used to do CFC duty, same reason. he was a football fan- remember getting.the tube back with him.after Watford early 80.s. One of John Barnes first games- remember him saying that Wingers mustard

I was there that night and in the benches, I can't remember why yet someone here has said the Shed was under development then, though thought that was later.

Cracking atmosphere where we were and can recall early on that the Bruges fans were singing in English. 

One of the few matches where Furlong looked half decent.

Can't say I've got anything positive to say about the old  bill then or now but especially at football in the 80's and in wider society. The amount of times they would pull you up for nothing especially black people seen so many people get nicked in Harlesden and Stonebridge for nothing one wrong word punch in the stomach and chucked in the van.

Do you remember Carter Street cop shop off Walworth Road not far from the Elephant and Castle?

At  Carter Street they would let you out after a few hours if you got nicked and make you put a donation in the " widows and orphans " box. No record of an offence or anything but a warning not to act like a c**t again !

And the f**kers would mock our clothes, haircuts, spotty faces etc while we were in  there.😀

I got shoulder barged by a cop in the Shed once , knocked me flying, I only weighed about 7 stone at the time !

Me and my mates were f**king around in the Shed we were 15 I got dragged out punched in the stomach by a massive prick by their coppers stand got brought into a portacabin and some copper basically said I was a scumbag always hated plod and I always will.

What used to get me at times in the Middle was the police coming and appearing to grab some young kid at random, while the loud drunk and swearing Glaswegian was always left alone.

I suspect some had targets to meet and normally went for the easy option.

Of course you always get the odd nasty bastxrd.

I remember a big, very loud guy in the White Wall being grabbed by a copper and taken out for shouting 'Get Bumstead on!'

That picture reminds me of a certain match at Selhurst Park when Chelsea were not at their best and the ref seemed to be giving Palace every decision in the early 90's. It was too much for one guy and he took a run at the ref from the big open terrace towards the ref on the half-way line. The end went quiet in disbelief as no-one appeared to see him and he started getting very close when all of a sudden the officials woke up and sprinted on to rugby tackle him. 

 

Probably posted before but I'm a sucker for any picture with the Shed and of course Ossie.

 

Another game I don't remember but I can remember games from the 70's and 80's as clear as a bell. Alan Hansen would have a coronary at both teams defence and has to be one of De Goey's last games for us.
