Remember before one man went to Mow, there was a similar nursery rhyme courtesy of Mr Greenaway Ten green bottles sung in gate!!! 82/83.

Massive turn out at Leeds in 83/84 seats along the side behind the paddock. Numbers of 7-8k. Didn’t do train but was in a 50 coach police escort from the motorway. For a 15 year old it looked the bo^*ocks!!!

Amazing turnout. Vast majority 15-30 years old, wearing clothes that cost between a week or two weeks wages. There were a lot of “ sleeper” CFC fans back then who emerged for certain away games. West Ham were number one in London, Chelsea by far the best in the road. Leeds, Sunderland, Cardiff, Pompey, Man City, Newcastle, we gave it proper

Dunno if anyone here would remember but in the sixties we used to sing " In Dublin's fair city'....the Molly Malone song with our arms raised in the air until the final part when we chanted CHELSEA  instead of the traditional words .

From the north terrace it looked really impressive with a sea of arms raised across the shed end..

I can't write the words here, but I loved the one that started, " if you take a walk down Fulham road and you've got a *** boys nose " etc etc. It was about Spurs.

Talking of Greenaway,  there was a song about his "staircase " nose, but for the life of me I can't remember the thing .

Reading stuff on here always triggers long forgotten memories.

I'm hoping it'll stave off Alzheimer's!

I watched a TV prog about Harry Roberts today.....so....cringed a bit when I remember singing , fifty years ago....the Harry Roberts song we sang in the old shed surrounded by cops waiting for a reason to throw you out

It's well cringe when you look back.

The old Bill must have been disgusted, 3 of their colleagues murdered and we're mocking them.

How stupid we were back then.

I remember Molly Malone still being sung until the late eighties or early nineties. Can't remember exactly when we stopped singing it. Guess it was one of those songs that went out of fashion. It's tempting to start singing it when we're on the tube to the next game and see who joins in!

On occasions we sing the Tommy Baldwin song and a few join in. We were in a club before a game at Wembley - I can't remember who we played - and Tommy was there. We started singing his song. There was a big smile on his face.

Yeah, the " his name is" song still gets sung .

When the coppers emerged from that little turret by the Whitewall to sling people out for “ over enthusiasm “ the Laurel and Hardly theme tune used to get sung/ whistled. Never quite understood why people got thrown out when there was no enemy action in the shed…..my brother got ejected from the south bank at Upton Park for over celebrating a goal in the mid 80’s- seriously…..

I do remember seeing a good one on one punch up between CFC fans between a ginger skinhead and a blonde skinhead in the middle of the shed circa 79- probably personal matter outside of football. Similarly went to Sheffield Wednesday for cup game mid 90’s- went for halftime pint and two blokes were going hell for leather. Everyone just formed a circle and let them get on with it.

I think that this picture has been posted before. From 1922. The arcs on the edges of penalty boxes were added in 1937. I think the object behind the North End goal is the water jump from when the ground was used for athletics events.

May be an image of football and crowd

Great picture.

Correct it is the Steeplechase Water Jump Barrier behind the goalmouth.

The long jump run up and sandpit is in front of the terracing at the halfway line.

I recall Molly Malone being sung in the early 90s in the Shed yet what happened, the Shed End got demolished to rebuild with the hotel complex and a lot of the Shed went to the seats in the Lower North. Guess sitting in seats killed a lot of the old songs.
