Incredibly bad taste considering he’d been a very instrumental manager of ours only ten years or so previous Yeah, he ended up with a black eye ! Another time he got his foot caught in a carwash track! Loved him as our manager, put a load of youngsters together. Doc's Diamonds, came close to glory a few times.

I remember Peter Shilton getting some serious stick from the Shed when he got caught out with that Tina bird. When Stan Bowls died recently read a brilliant piece from a Birmingham fan in a letters column of a newspaper. He had a publicised separation from his missus, and was playing at St Andrews. ” Where’s your wife gone, Where’s your wife gone Stanley Bowls” Stan schrugged his shoulders ” With the Milkman, with the milkman Stanley Bowls” Apparantly he doubled up with laughter. What a man

Numerous stories regarding his conduct none suitable for public airing I reckon you'll know. Who was that QPR player kept getting sent off etc ? He came out of a pub near Selhurst / Thornton Heath one morning after an all nighter, had a row with some bloke walking past and got himself stabbed ? EDIT: Got It ! Mark Dennis! Sent off 12 times, Streatham lad, nut case. On one occasion he got his wife to wheel him out of hospital where he was being treated for an injury and they both went on a drunken session together.. Interesting and stuff about him on the internet. Not suitable reading for those of a sensitive nature ! Edited May 27, 20242 yr by The Rising Sun Info
May 27, 20242 yr ‘l gave us a three goal lead at half time with a headed goal from a Charlie Cooke corner. It was my first experience of playing alongside Cooke and what an absolute pleasure that was.Charlie was a wild man in those days, although I gather he hasn’t touched a drop of drink for years. I knew him as a party animal, but a sublime player into the bargain. He was a great character to have around and a huge bonus on the Park. He had tremendous ability on the ball, not to mention defence shredding vision and it is little wonder he became such a hero at Chelsea.’ Colin Stein, Rangers, Coventry City and Scotland striker on Charlie Cooke. Thought he was more Mitcham than Streatham but could be wrong. Yes heard stories about him attaching bangers to cats tails as a kid- no idea whether true or not. Pretty sure he played for Mitcham Royals who were a sh*t hot Sunday team. He was at Birmingham when they had a few “ hatters” in the team. Hopkins, Mick Hartford, Noel Blake etc Re Wally Downes, my mate was only an apprentice there, however he learnt early not to stand to close to him in the shower, otherwise he might mistake your leg for a tree trunk….

Some good thieves there, who had an inside track of going’s on at London City Aiirport. Briefly lived in between buying and selling houses, with my brother who lived on Mitcham Lane, Streatham- opposite the Park Tavern- another Pikey: Chelsea stronghold. Kebab shop on the corner.Losers corner we used to call it. Every Friday/ Saturday night, dunk your nut out the window, guaranteed to see a punch up. Strange spot
May 28, 20242 yr Btw, a bit further up the road, we had a very lively bunch from The Sussex Arms in Norbury who had their own coach. Palace was the nearest team but a lot of top boys from that way, plus Sydenham, Dulwich etc

Went to the same school as Wally. He always bunked football, maybe he knew he was destined for greater things? Saw him in the dugout at West Ham a few years back. Was twice! Maybe three times the size he used to be- obviously enjoying food and drink more
