Chelsea's Top 5 rivals?

Featured Replies

In no particular order, which teams would you list as our top 5 rivals in England alone throughout your time as a Chelsea fan?

In no particular order I would list mine as:

- West Ham

- Tottenham Hotspur

- Arsenal

- Liverpool

- Leeds/Manchester United

Rivals in terms of hatred - top two for me are Tottenham and Leeds, followed by Liverpool.

Rivals in terms of success - Man Utd & probably Man City from now on.

Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Liverpool

Though nowadays the rivalry with Arsenal isn't what it used to be a few years back.

I'm not so bothered about United. Obviously they're our rivals in terms of going for the same trophies but I've never disliked them in the way I do Liverpool/Spurs/Arsenal. Same deal with Citeh. In order of dislike; Liverpool, Spuds, Arsenal, Wet Spam, Leeds.

I have a very different perspective than most of you because I live in California. I rarely ever run into Spurs or West Ham fans, so it's hard for me to hate them as much as many of you do. I mean, they're not really competing with us for trophies, and I don't have to deal with their fans, so there isn't as much of a reason for me to despise them.

That being said, games against Spurs and West Ham still mean more to me than games against....say.....Wigan or Stoke or Blackburn. But there's no intense hatred there.

On the other hand, ManU, Liverpool, and Arsenal all have HUGE support groups in the US. Every casual soccer fan (yes, sorry, I'm American so I use that dirty "soccer" word) claims to be a United fan, though many of them couldn't name half the players in the regular starting XI. So when I get texts from friends who fall into that category rubbing it in that they won the league, or knocked us out of the Champions League, it's unbelievably irritating.

Plus, the pub we go to to watch matches has a very large Chelsea contingent. But in the last couple of years, United and Arsenal have been showing up in greater numbers and gaining on us.

So, for me, my dislike of United, Arsenal, and Liverpool stands out way above my dislike for Spurs and West Ham, because of those two factors: they're more competition for trophies, and I have to deal with their fans on a more regular basis. Spurs and West Ham would still be #4 and #5 on my list by a good margin over whoever would be #6......but they're also a good ways behind the top 3.

In order of hatred more than rivalry !

Liverpool

Leeds

Arsenal

Spuds

Celtic

Try as i might i find it hard to 'Hate' Manure especially as they were so gracious (well the majority) on Red Cafe when we won our league titles !....

Unlike the Dippers.

Hear hear. I live in Nebraska and it's very similar. Lots of Liverpool, Arsenal, and ManU fans, surprisingly not that many Chelsea fans though. The funniest thing to me is that the Liverpool ones, even the ones that don't follow the game that closely, are still incredibly deluded.

I agree, I can't bring myself to hate United. On the other hand, Liverpool, well I just can hate them enough. Their deluded fans, their constant appeals to 'history', their self righteous way of been. I mean, how can you not hate Liverpool? So to conclude my list is (in no particular order): Arsenal, Leeds, West Ham, Barcelona, Liverpool.

1. Spuds.

2. Scousers.

3. Gooners.

4. Dirty Leeds.

5. Manure.

If I could add a foreign team in there I'd add Barcelona in between scousers and gooners.
