ace
I thought he might stick around, with Bruma on loan and Rajkovic unable to play for us. I guess he still is only 18, so this might not have any impact on the Alex rumours.
Castiel
Kalas has reportedly established himself as Vitesse's best central defender in a very short period and has consistently turned in stellar performances. Apparently he's equally comfortable playing right back.
icecoolguy22
Don't know too much about this lad, but he was awesome on FM. I feel this is the kind of player we should keep and develop in coming seasons, rather than buy a Cahill for quick fix.
Snedger
The Hulk thread had drifted to discussing right backs and I thought about Kalas as he'd been doing so well on loan at Vitesse. At 19 it is maybe a year or two too early for him to be in our first team squad but he could be the best option as a young player already at the club to cover as a right back. And I came across this video of his first senior goal scored in late May. A cracking strike and a celebration not seen at Chelsea since Babayaro! http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/chelsea-upstart-tomas-kalas-on-loan-at-vitesse-scores-his-1st-career-goal-vs-rkc-waalwijk/

Snedger
He is but, apparently he's right sided and can play right full back. I was just thinking of a cheap way of providing cover at rb. Seems worrying about the clubs coffers is catching with all these people loosing sleep over Hulks reputed transfer fee. Personally I'd leave Kalas out on lone and buy this Van Der Wiel lad as rb competition for Ivanovic.
CacOBG
He seems to have the skills to play RB - pace, acceleration, positioning, tackling, etc.TBH, he doesn't seem tall and muscular enough to be a CB in the Prem so if there is a position for him in Prem that would be a FB IMO. Looks good and promising from YT videos - would be good if he spends the pre-season on Chelsea's tour just so that we can check him out in a few games (I watched both Vitesse games against RKC recently but forgot Kalas is ours and wasn't paying attention to him ;//). ace
Maybe an Ivan mark 2 then? I think he could be, and that he'll be a part of the squad in a year or two, probably at RB instead of CB due to the lack of options at RB (even with Maicon). He's allegedly in contention to be receive a senior cap for the Czech Republic in the near future. Assuming we sign Maicon for a short-term depth solution, like two years. Kalas is due back to Vitesse (where he played 29 times last season), who are in the Europa League, and should probably get another great season of experience in. Then maybe a year on loan in England and then time to shine for us. Would still like to have him come to the USA with us this preseason, just to get a couple glimpses of him in action for us in blue. TomW
Vitesse defender Tomas Kalas feels that Wilfried Bony would be the perfect signing for Chelsea as they currently lack an attacker with the Ivory Coast international's qualities. The Czech, one of three Chelsea players on loan at the club alongside Patrick van Aanholt and Gael Kakuta, is unsure whether Fernando Torres has the physical presence to lead the Blues' attack, and believes his team-mate would add something to the team that they currently lack. The 23-year-old Bony has been in impressive form for Vitesse this term, netting 12 goals in 11 Eredivisie appearances, and his good performances have not gone unnoticed abroad. "Chelsea need a player like him [bony] at the moment. Torres is always moving and works hard, but he is not strong enough to lead the line. I'm sorry for Torres, but that's my personal opinion," Kalas told Goal.com "Bony has so much quality. It's incredible how strong he is and he's excellent on the ball, too. I can understand why he has been linked with Chelsea and other clubs. "It will be impossible for Vitesse to hold on to him if he keeps this up. Perhaps we'll play together at Chelsea in the future. That would be great. "We haven't spoken about a transfer yet, but it would be nice to play alongside him at Stamford Bridge in a while." Bony was close to joining Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, but the move eventually fell through as the Premier League side failed to reach an agreement with Vitesse. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/11/05/3504031/chelsea-need-a-player-like-wilfried-bony-says-kalas? timetowaste
Does anybody know how he did this season? Is he good enough for Chelsea?
Zeta
I'd say another year out on loan preferably at a PL club. He was linked with West Brom a few months ago, so that would be great seeing how they handled Lukaku. He's a bit of an Ivanovic-type defender I think, can play CB or RB. Soulo
Mourinho has confirmed he will be a part of our squad for the 13/14 season. Perhaps might even see him start a game or few.

ForeverCarefree
Not to sound harsh but I'll believe it when I see it, making the subs bench won't count to me.

Not harsh at all, I doubt he'll feature too much but if there's a time and place to prove yourself this is it for him.
Teritus
Not to sound harsh but I'll believe it when I see it, making the subs bench won't count to me. On the contrary this move will signify that we won't be going in for a CB this summer. IMO Ivan will be moved to the centre and Kalas will be backup to Azpi. IMO Ivan will be moved to the centre and Kalas will be backup to Azpi. It's just that when Jose was here before he played Essien and Ferreria at CB before turning to our youth players. Yes he may have a new brief from the club about using the resources from the youth academy but when it comes to crunch time in the league matches will he pick Kalas at Right Back or will he play Essien? I would love to see the likes of Kalas, Lukaku, McEachran and Chalobah to have a big part to play in this coming season but until the season gets underway I'm taking what Jose says with a pinch of salt. Katon
When Jose was here before we didn't have any youth CBs worth playing. He certainly wasn't shy about using Varane at Madrid. Still, 'wait and see' is a perfectly sensible attitude.
Soulo
True, but Varane is an exceptional talent, I'm not quite sure Kalas is on the same level as Varane as of yet but there's no reason he shouldn't get playtime if he proves himself.
Katon
I don't think Kalas is another Varane, but if memory serves Jose's first spell saw him running out people like Steven Watt against lower-league cup opponents. With all respect to Watt, Kalas is a much better player and I'd expect Jose to be much more willing to use him.
