Chelsea v Bayern Munich (CL Final) 19/05/12 KO 19:45 BST

Featured Replies

Here I was hoping we'd fail to win our first Champions League, hopefully granting Spurs a spot in the Champions League for next season in the process

lol

A - Slightly before my time as a Bayern fan ! My first live Bayern game was in August '83 at home to Düsseldorf. My first european game, away to Spurs a few months later.

The young Kalle Rummenigge was so nervous before the St.Etienne game that the physio gave him a double cognac before the match !

B - I don't think I'm in the squad mate ! Seriously ever since it was decided that the final is in Munich we have been desperate to win this one, we don't want to fail having got this far !

Yeah showing my age. I was still in Primary School though in 1976. Have seen Bayern Munich a couple of times at Ibrox, when playing Rangers over the years.

Taking an alcoholic drink before a game ? Well it was Glasgow !

Sorry you aint in squad

I've seen Rangers in Munich too, a 0-0 in 1989 after we'd won 3-1 in Glasgow. Back in the 80's Bayern had a now sadly defunct supporters club called Südkurve 73, the club boss Jackie was a massive Rangers fan and his office above the club bar was full of Bayern and Rangers memorabilia.

Jackie sadly died many years ago but he was a great guy and I have good memories of him, he was Bayern through and through but also loved British football and British fans.

Slightly off topic but I've just been reading about season ticket prices in the UK. I couldn't afford to go much if I still lived over there, God knows how you lot put up with the prices !

It's ridiculous that my English club (Sheffield United) charge more than the likes of Bayern, quite a bit more in fact. If clubs over here started charging what you lads had to pay the fans would be out on the streets protesting !

Yeah it sucks, the premier league is pretty soul-less. It's what means that we get such great players playing over here but it's a system where the rich guys are getting loads of money at the expense of the supporters; from what I gather the Bundesliga is very much tailored towards giving the fans the best experience etc. I know they're your rivals but Dortmund's support (and that "yellow wall") sound pretty awesome and they're able to fill out an 80,000 seater stadium cause of the prices!

Dortmund away with about 63,000 BVB fans and 20,000 of ours is an amazing atmosphere ! 90 minutes of noise and colour. I've been there many times and the sight of their end when the teams come out is incredible.

This is me in the Bayern end last season (if it loads up properly) :

Zippy:Good away win for Bayern today 4-1 at Koln

Yes, I watched it live on tv. I expected Heynckes to put out a weakened side but it wasn't the case. He left out Alaba, Luis Gustavo and Badstuber so he was obviously playing the eleven he has in mind for the CL final.

Bayern line up today :

Neuer

Lahm

Timo

Boateng

Contento

Robben

Kroos

Schweinsteiger

Ribery

Müller

Gomez.

Scorers for Bayern : Müller 2, Geromel og, Robben...

Yeah looks like Bayern are already putting things in to place for the final, cannot say I blame them. Very impressive side, think we are going to miss Ramires big time.

Mikel

Essien/Romeu

Lampard

Kalou

Mata

Vs

Robben

Kroos

Schweinsteiger

Ribery

Müller

On Bayerns own pitch, likely to be the deciding factor.

If we don't have Cahill and Luiz we're in serious trouble. Let's assume we have them for a moment. My guess is that we'll line up like this (Cech obviously in goal):

--Bossy--Cahill--Luiz--Cole--

---------Lamps-----Mikel--------

---Kalou-----Mata----FloMo---

---------------Drogba--------------

We've seen RDM deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation most of the time and I believe he'll do it again for the CL final. Drogs will spearhead and we'll rely on Kalou and Malouda for tracking back. Malouda has worked well with Cole in the past, and Kalou will be responsible for tracking Lahm. We need Mata in the 10 role and he will provide us opportunities. RDM has nothing to lose, so he may put Torres on LW but I think he's going to save him for a change up front if it's not working with Drogs.

I believe Zippy is right and Bayern have fielded their 11 today. If Kalou does his job, we should be in good shape. Badstuber being out is going to allow Drogba to attack the CB's. He will have opportunities.

Bayern will really miss Gustavo. With Gustavo out, Kroos will not be able to fill in the 10 role. I expect Kroos will have to drop to be a DM. I also expect Müller to take over that 10 role. Here's how I see them line up:

-Contento--Timo--Boateng--Lahm-

-----Schweinsteiger----Kroos---------

----Robben-----Müller-----Ribery-----

-------------------Gomez------------------

Neuer obviously in goal.

Bayern have the advantage on the wings. The problem with using Torres and/or Studge on the wings is tracking back. We will need Kalou to do a good job shadowing Lahm. Gomez is a fantastic finisher. If Lahm can get him crosses, he's going to finish. Müller is naturally a winger so expect to see Kroos float into the CAM role especially if Bayern is attacking for a good portion of time.

I'm definitely not sold on Malouda as our starting LW, but I'm not sure who else we could put out there.

This is going to be extremely tough. Having JT, Ivan, Rambo, and Raul out could really hurt us.

Malouda in the team is basically us with 10 men. Sorry to say it as he was awesome for a while but this season has been truely awful...

Would be better to use Betrand in front of Cole IMO, or move Kalou to the left and put Bosingwa/Essien on the right. We are losing pace with no Ramires we need to keep that there imo and Malouda does not offer that.

Still though prove me wrong Flo if you start, I'll gladly eat humble pie if you win us the CL.

Bayern must be rubbing their hands after what they have seen last night. We will have a handful trying to deal with 2 good wingers and a big striker. Robben wont be as generous as Downing and Gomez is a level above Caroll at least. We wont get too many chances in the game, can't afford to have Kalou wasting precious chances. Torres is no natural winger, but his work rate, passing, crossing will be more useful than Kalou and Malouda any day.

All I know is what they said on ITV where he told them that he was unsure of making the final. Earlier in the week he told the media that nothing would stop him from playing in the FA Cup and CL finals.
