Mikel New 5 year deal

Featured Replies

Ashley Cole 1 year contract offered, Mikel 5 year contract  it makes no sense, just like everything else that has been happening at the club the last few weeks. I don't care if Ashley Cole is over 30 he still offers far more to the team than Mikel does. Mikel has 1 or 2 good games and some people on here say he is amazing, get a grip, he is average. Next to Torres he is our weak link.

HE'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH, he never has been. Now it's likely he will play for at least another 5 years at the club.

Although Mikel drives me mad at times, he is still a very solid player.

5 years seems a bit excessive but it's still nice to see a player committing to the club, especially at a time where if I was a player, I would want out ASAP.

Good on him, massively improved over the last couple of seasons.

This is Mikel's 7th season at the club, i honestly can't see much difference now compared to when he first joined. He is still slow to react to situations, he is still full of mistakes, he doesn't do the DM job properly.

I agree he has had a few good performances in the last season but seriously in 7 years this is not enough. The reason why he is so commited to the club is because not many other top sides would want him.

In my view this is good news for the club..

Mikel is one of the best DM midfielders in world football. He is steady, usually reliable and still young. He gets a bad rap by fans who often are looking for a scapegoat, and Mikel is an easy target now Kalou is gone and Malouda isnt featuring.

Mikel has been one of our most consistant performers this season, and has been regularly up there in MOM the polls....keep up the good work Obi Wan

Come on now, I know he's getting a bit of stick in this thread but there's absolutely no need for that. No need at all.

I would be interested in seeing what wages he's on now.

OMG this must be Emenalo's work.I was hoping to see the back of him.One of best DM in world, are you on something. If he was playing for the opposition I would targeted him as the weak link.Is just a big lump ,not good at anytinhg in particular.Five more years of sideway passes.missed headers, speed of a bloody snail. This is a joke,he should be playing for Stoke,Sunderland etc, thats his level.MOM really, when?

He isn't a scapegoat at all, people have been complaining about plenty of Chelsea players this season. Lampard was getting it at the start of the season, Ivanovic has had it, Luiz and Torres as well. Mikel is average and nowhere near the best DM in the world. Mikel is not an easy target now Kalou is gone, when Kalou was here they were getting the same kind of treatment, which in my opinion was fair.

The reason Mikel get's votes in the MOM polls is because morons vote for a joke or because they feel sorry for him.

HEAR HEAR!

I think mikel has being doing better then usual.but for me he slows the game down to much and often gives the ball away for such a big man he gets bullied a lot not he's biggest fan but I'd love to see him control the game more. He can't pick a pass and overall if is worth a 5 year contract why ain't cole being looked after cole offers more then mikel does. Cole would get into any team in Europe would mikel? I doubt it. f**k sake Chelsea sort it out.

Spot on. Agree about Cole as well. Why give a player who at best should be a squad player 5 years & not give the best left back around an extra year? Makes no sense, like everything recently.

Never been one to slag mikel off, there's been so many occasions this season where he's jogged back to defend, while runners are breaking off him and running straight at the back four.

I think there are better options but at the same time, I have no issues with him being a more than capable squad player for us over the next 5 years, but I don't think he has enough discipline or desire, to be a vital cog in a league winning side.

The least mobile player in the entire team. How ironic, he is given extension on the night we will probably be ousted from Champions League ( thanks in no small measure to his contribution (lack of), remember Juve's second goal at bridge).

He is jack of a few trades but master at none.

Neither an outstanding ball winner nor a reliable deep lying playmaker. What is his role in the team? Only God knows.

I'm not a Mikel hater and certainly not a lover. I don't really see what he brings to the team and at the same time I don't think we're weaker with him in in. His worst trait is slowing the game down, 1-0 down in the 93rd minute and he'll still get the ball, stop it, turn one way, turn the other, turn back dribble a bit, turn back... FT whistle goes. Poor Ramires meanwhile (who I admit has been just as average this year) has run the length of the pitch to get us somewhere.

I would have rather we looked for other options, but still, congratulations to him.

I didn't think things could get worse but I was wrong. After his performance against West Ham, we must be bonkers giving him a new deal....

I've never "hated" Mikel as he wears our colours and anyone that does so requires our support. However for me he quite simply is not at the level required to take our club forward. He's of course had some nightmares in his time, and whilst some argue that he's solid and consistent these performances still fall short of what's required. I don't see enough confidence from him in big games, to much hesitation, and an all round demeanor that suggests he's out of his depth. We need someone to sit in that space with bags of confidence, someone who can dig in and get messy, and take the game to our opponents when our backs are against that wall, he'll never be that player. A new 5 year deal is ludicrous.

Everytime a thread about Mikel appears we get to see just how little some people know about football.

 OK, what's he good at?
