Guus Hiddink back in the summer? Leaving Anzhi Makhachkala to retire from football. Could he be tempted back to Chelsea for one last hurrah before his real retirement? Personally I'd LOVE to have Guus back at the bridge. Terrific manager, tactically sound and it seems that both fans and players love him. Thoughts?

Hiddink's an excellent manager and he did well at Chelsea when he was there for a few months and he turned ordinary international teams in Australia and South Korea into tough and uncompromising teams who delivered good results. 

However, Hiddink might not suit Chelsea now because we need someone there for the long haul. Hiddink would have been a good choice had he been available at the time the club appointed Benitez. 

He's planning to retire anyway, so I think Hiddink won't comeback now, but you never know. If he was appointed in the summer, I wouldn't be disappointed. I think it's quite unexpected if it did eventuate considering he states that he's retiring.

Whilst many would like someone here in the hotseat for the long haul, we dont necisarrily need it. We have been successful as a club with the rotating merry go around of managerss, Indeed, most clubs have a large turnaround of managers,and it is only really Fergie in the prem league who has a history of sustained success over a long period.

 

Whislt managerial stabilty is an ideal dream, it is not the be all and end all.

I do think that Hiddink would steady the ship. If Jose doesnt want to join us again (and who could blame him right now) then Hiddink would be a good choice but i am pretty sure he will retire in the summer.

I wanted Guus to take over when we sacked Carlo,Guus did a good job when he was here.He got Drogba,Malouda and Anelka performing fantastic together.

   Guus is fondly remembered by Chelsea fans.

I think the operative point is that we are successful in spite of the revolving door, not because of it.

 

The spine of Jose's team was always going to achieve things, and the strategy of giving manager after manager the keys to the operation was going to go right on occasion. For every Carlo Ancelotti though, you get two stiffs. One Big Phil and one out of touch AVB for every right fit.

 

Surely we can't go through a few managers time after time before settling on the right one, and then sacking him before starting the process again, all on the whim of a man who clearly knows next to nothing about football.

 

The plain truth is that Carlo Ancelotti was the only sensible post Jose 'permanent' appointment the club made, he was our only 'permanent' manager (or, in classic Chelsea parlance, "Head Coach") to achieve anything of note.

 

No one is advocating an Arsenal-esque situation where failure is tolerated and ambition stifled, but we can't go on kicking talented managers to the curb for relatively minor slip ups. Scolari and Villas Boas simply had to be sacked, that much is plainly obvious, but Robbie and Carlo didn't do anything to warrant getting the boot.

 

Consider United's reaction to going out of the Champions League under Fergie, obviously a unique situation, granted, but where would we be now had we backed Robbie and put our exit down to experience? We certainly wouldn't be scrapping for a top four finish, of that I am certain.

  Definitely not.

 

  I'd expect him to do an exceptional job if he came back.

 

  But I believe he will not come back to manage the team and will retire from football.
