Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

I thought we were only 1 over therefore only 2 would need to move for us to bring in a non homegrown striker

Who knows but if that was the case then I'm more hopeful as surely Marin and Romeu will be gone easily enough?

Jose must have a plan though

Romeu won't go he's just signed a new contract

That's devastating, no idea what he's done to deserve that he's been poor every time I saw him in the Europa.

“did you know on the last game of the season that you would be back here? did you have an inkling?”

Rom: “… eh… ya, honestly ya…”

heh.  Good riddance.

Cavani, Lavezzi and Bony are the only replacements that jump out at me.

Need to get shot of Torres now, doesn't matter if it's a loss just get rid of him. A skeptic could say that Torres has now cost the Chelsea careers of both Daniel Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku. He's an albatross around the club's neck and needs to go.

The guy is a spoilt brat. I expect boos when he returns to Stamford Bridge. His attitude is awful. You just have to look at him when he was taken off during the world cup to see that.

He claims he didnt want to touch the UCL trophy in Munich as he didnt play a part in it. Didnt stop him going mental and joining in with the trophy celebration on the pitch.

"The thinking behind that was, first of all, the fact that Romelu was always very clear with us in his mentality, and his approach was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation at Chelsea.

"He wanted to play for Chelsea, but he wanted to be first-choice striker, which with a club of our dimension is very difficult to grant a player first-choice status.

"That reduced immediately his desire to come to us. After that Everton come with an important offer and as I always say, as it's the reality of our club, we want to be inside of the rules of Financial Fair Play, and when we have the chance to make some movements that create a positive impact in FFP, Chelsea always analyse these situations."  Jose today

stupid decision and another that we will soon regret. Costa alone isn't enough and I cant see us getting a quality long term replacement in, I'd be happy with Bamford being second choice but there's zero chance of that happening

The club should have told him he has this year competing along side Costa as that's what happens at most top clubs and if he still wasn't happy at the end of the season then sell.

We would have got next to no money though as he wasn't signing a new contract.

We would be mugs not to accept a near £30 million for a player who did not want to fight for a place and who's contract was running down

Just because someone is a fan of a club doesn't mean that "fighting for a spot" is the best option.

Sturridge didn't get a single start the season he left ahead of Torres, that was the same time Lukaku was out on loan for the first time. Lukaku had already spend one full season with the squad without much chances.

For a 21 year old playing regularly is the most important thing - expecting players to stay around just because of loyalty or being fans is silly.

If Jose didn't feel Lukaku was ready to be first choice ahead of Eto'o; Ba and Torres last season, personally I think he was wrong.

Right now we have Costa so the situation has changed but we also have no reliable backups at the moment and that might end up biting us in the arse.

You're all bitter or gloating, we should see how things fall come the end of the season before deciding how successful our treatment of Lukaku has been.

Expecting maturity out of a 21 year old when most football players in their 30s have their head stuck so far up their arse it's unreal.

I don't think his attitude is was as Jose has made out, but he definitely thought he was better than he was, and demanded to be a guaranteed starter. For a club that was one of the first to use a squad of players in the 90s early 00s, to now having a manager who's success has been built off a strong team ethic and his failures coming when bad eggs are circling in a squad, it appears Lukaku's demands are unacceptable.

A good player, may turn into one of the world's bests. But £28 million is a lot of money for somebody who would unhappily play number two next year.

I think Remy is the striker we want. He is different from Costa and Drogba. He will happily be second choice on a good team, won't moan, will keep himself in shape too so long as he gets a year deal on good money. That's what Remy cares about the most but not in a way that damages his performances.

Or is there enough left for Pogba....

We have just loaned a player to a club with a very good English striker.....hmmm.....

Just throwing it out there or heard something?

Ha ha, not heard anything was just pissing about.

Did you not read Mourinho's quotes? It's exactly what we thought all along. He wants to be first choice but he does not want to work for it. Simple as that.

What did you want the club to do? Hold a gun to his head 24/7 for him to stay here? He showed no indication of wanting to sign a new contract either. You, and others, need to stop blaming the club for a situation like this. Lukaku put us in this situation but luckily, the club did brilliantly and got a good price for him in the end.

I couldn't care less how much money at what time we could get for him ffp doesn't mean we're skint.

He's a fantastic young player in a position we've struggled with for ages and he's gone without being given a chance at the end of a season where our manager bemoaned our striking options, We are as it is now going into the season with just Costa up top in his first season in a new league coming back from a bad injury that he had to play at the world cup with. These are the things that matter to me.... not how much money we got for him.

Thanks the gods you are not in charge then.

No we are not skint but getting nearly £30 million for a player who didn't want to be here and who's contract is running down so he could leave for NOTHING on a bosman is smart business.

IF we re invest in another striker who actually knuckles down then this deal is best for us as a club.

He would not have complained if Lukaku had any bottle and stayed last season to prove himself instead of forcing a loan move.
