Chelsea sign new deal with Adidas

Sorry I've not read the article, at work at the moment but are figures listed? Compared to the other 'top clubs' our previous deal was extremely poor.

No fees are mentioned, only that it is a 10 year agreement.

Below is the full article for those that want it:

Chelsea Football Club and adidas are delighted to announce an extension to our global partnership.

This is the biggest deal to date Chelsea FC has signed with a partner and will see the sports brand continue to be the official sponsor and sportswear supplier for the club over the next 10 years.

The partnership, which began in 2006, has continued to grow during a period of continued success for Chelsea. The Blues have won major honours both domestically and in Europe including being the first London club to win the UEFA Champions League. We have also won the Premier League, four FA Cups, the League Cup and last season, the UEFA Europa League.

This year adidas worked with the club to launch the iconic 'It's blue, what else matters' campaign - the most successful club home kit launch ever. Designed to preview the new kit for the 2013/14 season in an unexpected way, the campaign featured several players dipped head to toe in blue paint.

Chief Executive Ron Gourlay said: 'We are delighted to extend our partnership until 2023 after a highly successful first seven seasons. Both organisations share the same ethos and ambition and the new deal reaffirms adidas' belief in the club's status in world football.'

Herbert Hainer, Chief Executive Officer of adidas AG, added: 'Both adidas and Chelsea FC have a long and proud heritage in football and we are delighted to continue our working relationship with one of Europe's elite football clubs. We look forward to many more years of success, working closely with the club on product, marketing and grassroots initiatives in the UK and around the globe.'

If it doesnt at least approach the Arsenal deal I would be very surprised.

Wasn't that deal done in 2005? The landscape has shifted so much in our favor since then.

edit: no, looks like it was 2006 (according to their statement)

I believe that at the time our deal was the second best only to uniteds, I remember that it was one of the few things Kenyon did right

According to the BBC it's more than the £18m a year paid to us by Samsung.

More just in:

FOOTBALL

Chelsea and their official sponsor and sportswear supplier adidas have confirmed a new 10-year contract, (external) an agreement the Blues describe as "the biggest deal to date" and thought to be worth $450m (292, 713, 442).

$450m, bloody hell.

$450m = £290m roughly. Not too shabby.

So roughly around £29m a year which is only £1m less than Arsenal's deal with Puma.

However our agreement is twice as long which is either a positive or a negative depending on your point of view.

Personally I think a guaranteed £290m is good business.

No way is it a smart deal; UTD's old deal with Nike pays £23m or is it £38m, fair enough we are pulling in more than Liverpool and a £1m less than Arsenal but key is those deals only run for 5yrs. UTD's deal runs out in 2015 and will be renewed sometime in 2014, and rumour is Nike is willing to pay over £1b for a 10yr deal. The smartest thing Gourlay could have done was to wait for that to be announced & gone back to Adidas or explored Warrior, Puma or freaking Mizuno, because then no way will a £29m per year deal be acceptable. Come 5 years time when Arsenal & Liverpool's deal run out, you bet they will be looking for at least £50m per year if Utd pull of a £100m per year deal and we will still be stuck with Adidas for 5 extra yrs.

WAGNH pretty much says what I wanted to say:

Given the state of the market (Arsenal have recently signed a 5 year, £150 million deal with Puma, for contrast), I'd be surprised if there wasn't a series of clauses that allow both parties to renegotiate or terminate the deal at specific times. Ten years seems like a lot to give up in a fast-moving market, but the Blues have secured a very lucrative deal, and my guess is that they'll be able to escape by 2018 or so should they really want to.

Holy wow, 29 million a year. I'm no expert, but things to remember....

1. Puma's deal with Arsenal was probably dictated on the club's terms, considering Puma haven't picked up a club of their stature for quite a while. Arsenal will be by far the biggest club in their stable, and that might have meant a lot of money on a shorter term

2. In 2005, Chelsea paid off Umbro to get out of their deal and get signed with Adidas. For acceptable financial motives there is a way to back out.

Who says the value of these types of sponsorship deals will continue to increase? It might be that in 5 years for whatever circumstances less money is being offered in general for kit deals but we will be laughing cause we've still got another five years to go on a luxurative sponsorship deal,

I trust Roman and the big wigs with sort of thing and I think in the time Roman has been at the club all of our business dealings have been very good.
