The release clause is a price for the player to buy his way out of a contract. You cant just pay the release clause and the club has no say in whether to accept or not

Actually the player can buy out his own contract if he wishes to. I think the contact is between the players agent and the club willing to meet the clause..?

If the release clause is met its down to the player to decide and the club effectively cant stop the transfer from going through if the player is keen. Thats what happened with Benteke and Liverpool, Villa had no choice but to sell.
