June 23, 201410 yr Another tasty evening of football ahead Chile, Croatia and the Netherlands have all looked impressive so far and can use tonight to prove their true credentials. Brazil the favourites and home nation have under performed so far but will probably need a win to keep on course the Brazil-Argentina final that I would love to see
June 23, 201410 yr Author Spain lining up with: Reina, Albiol, Juanfran, Iniesta, Villa, Torres, Alonso, Ramos ©, Koke, Alba, Cazorla No Costa, Fabregas or Dave... Booooo! Australia: Ryan, Davidson, Spiranovic, Leckie, Taggart, Oar, Bozanic, Jedinak ©, McKay, McGowan, Wilkinson I've only heard of one of them. Netherlands: 1-Jasper Cillessen; 2-Ron Vlaar, 3-Stefan de Vrij, 5-Daley Blind, 7-Daryl Janmaat; 6-Nigel de Jong, 20-Georginio Wijnaldum, 11-Arjen Robben, 10-Wesley Sneijder; 17-Jeremain Lens, 15-Dirk Kuyt Chile: 1-Claudio Bravo, 4-Mauricio Isla, 17-Gary Medel, 18-Gonzalo Jara, 2-Eugenio Mena; 20-Charles Aranguiz, 21-Marcelo Diaz, 5-Francisco Silva, 16-Felipe Gutierrez; 7-Alexis Sanchez, 11-Eduardo Vargas How is Dirk Kuyt still playing for the national team?
June 23, 201410 yr Dutch national anthem has a few supporters singing along with their hand on their heart. WTF we're not Americans!
June 23, 201410 yr Typical Spain. Have a corner, and they pass it all the way back to their goalkeeper. So dull.
June 23, 201410 yr Decided to focus on the Dutch game with the Spanish one in the background. It seems Cesc really did fall out with whatshisface if he can't even start this one.
June 23, 201410 yr Spain just scored, whilst Villa looks to attack the ball across the 16 yard box, Torres just hovers on the edge of the box :(
June 23, 201410 yr Spain just scored, whilst Villa looks to attack the ball across the 16 yard box, Torres just hovers on the edge of the box :( Sign Villa. He can be next season's Eto'o.
June 23, 201410 yr I knew this would happen...Spain don't want to be last... We lose our two experienced heads, and are no longer able to string together an attack, because these young lads just don't have the technique. We don't look to have the attacking threat without Cahill.
June 23, 201410 yr Seems Mata can't get a start either. Wonder if one of the reasons he went to Man Utd after just half a season of not being number 1 choice was to save his World Cup spot... How's that working for you.

June 23, 201410 yr Still 0-0 at Netherlands-Chile. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet in my neighbourhood. Long may it stay that way. Edit: in case anyone thought I am supporting the Dutch team, I removed my Carlo-in-orange photo. He is now not wearing orange. Edited June 23, 201410 yr by Valerie
June 23, 201410 yr 1-0 Netherlands and my retarded neighbour is doing his equally retarded celebration. Sometimes I hate football.
June 23, 201410 yr The Dutch look great in this tournament. I wouldn't be surprised if they avenged 2010.
June 23, 201410 yr 3-0....our inexperience finally showing Shame...because in the previous games we at least threatened in attack...take Cahill out and it's a different team. Our defence has been made up of spare parts after a number of injuries, and it shows against a team with Spain's technical ability. We're getting caught out to simple lofted balls over the top, losing the players making the run. Frustrating to watch. Saved our worst performance for last.

June 23, 201410 yr I thought watching both games at once would be beyond my computer (and to a lesser extent me as well) but we both rose to the occasion magnificently. I'm glad we got to see a proper Spain performance and some Iniesta magic before they went home. Great assist from Fabregas for the third, good to see Torres (and Mata) chipping in too. Also it's worrying to see van Gaal getting such good results out of such a sh*t defence (on paper) considering he will be spending an entire season with Chris Smalling following this.

The Dutch defense isn't terrible. No recognizable names, but very solid players overall. De Vrij, Jaanmat, and Blind are nothing to laugh at. Martins Indi is pretty good as well.

Haha forgive my ignorance, I won't pretend I have any deep knowledge of Dutch football. To be honest I rate Blind and Janmaat quite highly. I don't really know the other two very well, although they haven't done much to suggest they are sh*t, so that was very unfair of me. I just saw Ron Vlaar as one of the first names on the teamsheet and balked!
