Cavani - Yes or No?

So with the news that Cavani supposedly wants a move to the Premier league, do you think we should go for him?

I say no myself as I think he's overrated, plus we have Costa so I doubt he'd be willing to sit on the bench or play wide (which is evidently the reason he wants to leave PSG) plus his price tag is going to be what over £50 million? I don't see PSG letting him go on the cheap.

No way, again I'd rather play Lukaku as 2nd choice. Cavani will cost a fair bit and his wages would be extortionate.I also agree with you and think he's very overrated.

I think if we were able to sell lukaku for big money, and somehow shift torres, I'd be all for the move. Costa/cavani/schurrle for emergencies would be fantastic.

I don't think it will be financially viable with torres and Lukaku on the books.

I rate him very highly, I think playing out wide has had a negative impact. However he has proven he is not only a great goalscorer, but also the scorer of great goals.

It really would depend on price.

The opportunity to sign someone like Cavani doesn't come along too often and if he is keen to join a Premier League team then honestly I wouldn't be against it.

We've had poor striking options for a couple of years now and if we went into the new season with Costa and Cavani I would be a very happy bunny.

There's a lot of football to be played so having two top quality strikers really shouldn't be an issue.

That said I doubt it will happen.

What price do you think would be okay? I read he could he available for £40m. I think that's pretty fair.

Anything up to around £45m I think, basically reinvest the Luiz transfer money into him.

How likely or realistic it is that you could sign him for that sort of money I don't know but I really wouldn't turn my nose up to us signing another good striker, it would be a phenomenal improvement on last season.

Overrated? He's been scoring goals consistently for years, and since joining Napoli 4 years ago he's averaged 1.4 goals per game*. I agree it would be difficult to accommodate him and Costa in our squad though, and I doubt there is a realistic chance of him coming to Chelsea.

*edit: actually that's a goal every 1.4 games

Whenever I've seen him play he's failed to live up to the hype

That stat can't be right though...surely?

Considering we already have a new striker in Costa I'd rather see money be spent elsewhere. That said if it's him or nothing I'd take him for sure, you can never have too many good strikers.

Yeah as much as he hasn't massively impressed me he must have something about him and £40 mil would be fine.

Yeah, it should be 0.7 goals/game, or a goal every 1.4 games. Still pretty good though!

That is good and I didn't know that but having watched Cavani several times I haven't been impressed but maybe I just happened to watch off days.

If the reports are to be believed he wants to leave Paris as he does not like playing out wide and being second fiddle to Zlatan. So why would he be happy doing the same thing here for Costa?

I think if he was going to join any English club right now it would be Liverpool. They have just received a lot of money for Suarez and they need to replace him if they want to mount any kind of title challenge this season.

How much do they have though? They've already spent a fair bit and reportedly a few more to come in for big fees so I'm not sure they actually could afford him with a high transfer fee and big wages.

Why spend 40-50 million on Cavani when we are close to signing Costa? Would just be throwing money away

It would strengthen us greatly but you have a point on the cash, its too much. I really don't think Cavani will get his move to the Prem in this window.
