Top 10 moments in 2014 ?

Featured Replies

The year 2014 is coming to an end. There were some memorable moments witnessed. What are your top 10 moments as a Chelsea FC and a football fan ?

Mine :

1. The 6-0 demolition of Arsenal with 'specialist in failure' chants throughout the match in Arsene Wenger's 1000th match as an Arsenal manager.

2. The win against Machester City at Etihad, with a clean sheet, in a stadium where teams like Arsenal, Manchester United conceded 6, 4 goals respectively.

3. The 0-2 win at Anfield, with Demba Baaa scoring from the famous Steven Gerrard slip, which made Liverpool drop precious points to lose the title eventually.

4. The win vs Paris St. Germain at home, with Demba Ba scoring in the dying minutes and later the internet world mocking Zlatan Ibrahimovic's #DareToZlatan with #DareToDemba. Also loved the build-up to the game, with the two clubs involving in friendly banter in the social-media.

5. The signing of Francesc Soler Fàbregas from FC Barcelona for just 28 million pounds just before the commencement of the world cup 2014. Surely must've broken a million gooner's hearts.

6. José Mourinho managing to get a reaction out of Samuel Eto'o by calling him an 'old-man' with Eto'o responding in brilliant fashion by scoring a hat-trick vs Manchester United and later on mocking José with an 'old-man' celebration.

7. The entertainment David Moyes's Manchester United provided the whole season.

8. Liverpool's slip up against Crystal 'Pulis' FC at the 'Crystanbul' with Dwight Gayle's splendid perfomance.

9. Luis Suàrez. As much as I hate him, he is a total entertainment. Be it the biting incidents or the majestic goals he scored, loved watching him in the PL.

10. Andre Schürlle assisting Mario Götze to score and win Germany the 2014 world cup.

Ooh from the year, mo doubt I'll miss something but I'll give it a try. Top 5 is reserved for Chelsea.

1. Liverpool 0 Chelsea 2 - I thought the Scouse were destined to win it last season to be honest. When I saw we were starting Kalas in this one I thought we were going to get slaughtered. But nope we did them over and that slip was the moment of the season, loved every second of it. Beating them and stopping them winning the title was superb.

2. Chelsea 6 Arsenal 0 - it was my stag do this day and we were going out early so I only got to see about an hour of it. Didnt matter though cause what I saw was enough to put me at ease and thrilled. Hammering the team I hate the most was just unbelievable. Such a stunning victory, the mix up sending off was hilarious too.

3. Chelsea 2 PSG 0 - it was just one of those nights that only happens in the Champions League. When Demba Ba scored the second to win the tie I went crazy.

4. Signing Cesc Fabregas, never thought we would get him. I admit at first I didn't want him but I warmed to it more and more as it got nearer. Man this was a great day, totally burst the Gooners fans FA cup bubble.

5. Man City 0 Chelsea 1 - it really was a masterclass from Mourinho (great bit of commentary from Tyler). It was just so thrilling to watch.

6. Luis Suarez bites again, this was brilliant. In that moment I knew Liverpool were f**ked.

7. Real Madrid 4 Atletico 1 CL Final - I'm probably in minority here but I've always like Real. Was really happy when they won their tenth European Cup.

8. The Goals of the World Cup - kind of a cheat but there were some amazing goals in this years world cup, James Rodriguez, Van Persie, Di Maria etc but the best of the bunch was that Tim Cahill goal. That should have been goal of the tournament.

9. Crystal Palace 3 Liverpool 3 - brilliant, just a great night especially as Palace fought back. I still don't get why Suarez cried, they were relying on other results anyway.

10. The Slippery G song - Ok its Chelsea related again but everyones been singing it. Can imagine in Stevie Me left Liverpool for say City they'd probably even sing it (well maybe not but you never know with them). Brilliant!

For 2014 it has to be the victory over Liverpool. I feel as though we saved football that day, could you imagine how bad it would have been if the Scousers had a Premier League title, it would probably take those big headed twats about 50 years to die out. That league drought they have is the best reminder of how sh*t they actually are.

But from a Chelsea perspective I guess you would have to put the Demba Ba goal, that was just a fantastic moment, one of those were you believe that you'll go on from then on to win the tournament. Kind of like when Ivanovic smashed in the winner against Napoli, it just gave you that hope of something.

Germany 7 - 1 Brazil

It was fantastic, I'm not a big fan of international football but that game will go down in the history books. The host nations getting spanked in their own back yard by a European side and absolutely humiliating them. That was a result that shook the world of football. Brilliantly entertaining.

Gerrard slipping after telling his team mates not to let it slip made my year! Not only that HE cost liverpool the title. I just cant explain how happy that made me!

Numbers 1-10: Every second of THAT slip and the subsequent goal. f**king hilarious, and orgasmically satisfying... i sounded like Mr Neville when it happened "ooooaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh"

Slippy G

No contest.

The fact we destroyed Liverpool's title challenge in their own f**king yard is made even more hilarious when we see how sh*t they are this season.

Love this thread, I'll take it as football in general rather than specifically Chelsea. Think we’ll all have similar ones.

1. Liverpool 0-2 Chelsea. He slipped. He f*cking slipped and lost the title. From there Mourinho's tactics were always going to be far superior for any Liverpool team to break down. The second goal was the icing but if it had stayed 1-0 it would have perhaps made it ever sweeter, but I’m not going to argue. The build up before the game was all about Liverpool, who the f*ck were Chelsea? After all Liverpool ‘go again' and they would end their title draught and Stevie G would win the prize the media believe he is most entitled to. Is he f*ck. THIS DOES NOT SLIP NOW. It was beautiful, as I’ve said before – we have been accused of ruining football at times but last year we saved it.

2. Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal. LOL, ruined his 1000th game by some way methinks. Imagine being a Gooner watching the mighty Chels and Mourinho eat you alive.

3. The World Cup, just in general.

4. Signing Costa and Fabregas – I wanted Costa but was far more reserved about Fabregas. These were big signings and so far, so good.

5. Chelsea 2-0 PSG. Famous European nights at Anfield? I’m sorry but it’s all about famous European nights the Bridge. Barcelona & Bayern in 2004/2005, Napoli in 2011/2012 and of course the above mentioned match spring to mind but I’m sure there’s more. Dare to Demba.

6. Torres leaving, albeit on loan. Harsh as Liverpool clearly ruined him with constantly rushing him back too early from injury (something I think goes unmentioned too much) but it just clearly didn’t work here. I still wish him well for the future and will forever be grateful for Barcelona and winning the corner in Munich. The obsession with him on here ruined the forum because he was being mentioned in every single thread, the venom… Insane, cannot fathom how someone no one knows can be hated.

7. Signing Drogba. Not as major, IMO, as the two in point 4 but it’s kinda like he never left isn’t it? Those two are for the future on the pitch and whilst Dids has more than exceeded my expectation in match-playing terms – to have him in training and for the youngsters to learn from him is invaluable.

8. Crystal Palace 3-3 Liverpool. Yes another Liverpool game. I’m aware I’m as obsessed with that team just as much as some are obsessed with Torres – (at least I admit it…!) but they’re just so un-f*cking-bareable.

9. Chelsea 3-0 Man Utd, easy as you like.

10. Chelsea fans showing their class with the reaction/reception we gave Frank.

I agree Gem that Torres doesnt deserve the hatred. He clearly came here when he was done and he really did try, I think people need to rememer that. I was glad he left though because his poor performances were having a negative impact on the club and fans. I will personally always appreciate some of his finer moments with us. His first goal against West Ham, the hattrick against QPR, that stunner against Newcastle people always seem to forget about, the goal against Arsenal at the Emirates (truly underrated goal). the goal against Barca, winning the corner in the CL final, his Europa League run (& performance plus goal in the final), his amazing goal against Bayern (which had we won that game would have been talked about more) and that late winner against City. Regardless of his time here the momenta where he did stand out we'll most likely remember forever.

Torres tried?

Not at all he was nothing but a cowardly player who was scared to beat a defender or even match one, he far from tried. Costa wants to make the defender his bitch and is always up for a fight, Torres was always stood sulking on the edge of the box, BEHIND A DEFENDER.

What you said is looking at Torres in the most positive way, yes he had some good moments here but he was hated for a reason, not because he was sh*t but his attitude to the game was bloody stressful. Now Eto'o, he tried, yes he wasn't good enough, he couldn't put chances away but he was actually doing something and he did his best to get in the right positions. Torres was making absolutely 0 effort especially last season, for a player who was on such high wages it was just shocking.

For me nothing tops the 6-0 Arsenal demolition.

It was also on my birthday, easily the best birthday present I've ever had.

I do think he tried he did have games where he sulked but who hasn't? I think for sure the guy tried things but that was part of his problem, he's be out wide trying to win the ball back when he should have been in the middle getting in the box. Don't think the problem was ever his workrate, it was his inabiliry to adapr to losing the attributes that made him such a deadly striker. Its what separates him fron true great players like Shearer who after knacking his knees simply changed his style of play. Torres didn't have the footballing brain to do this so he suffered because of that.

No sorry I just can't accept it that he tried, he certainly didn't try enough and I don't let players off lightly who don't give it 100%

Obviously we had Didi who used to sulk plenty of times but he always had that urge to improve on it and grab a goal. It wasn't just that Torres wasn't good enough, it was that he just gave up after a season, I don't even know why we bothered with him for so long.

Just watch some of the games last season and look at his movement, he had plenty of players that could give it to him on a plate, Hazard would beat a player square it across the box and Torres is just stood there giving the defender the easiest job in the world. Maybe it is just a matter of opinion Bobby but for me he did not try, he preferred that big wage than actually going out there and trying to make a bloody effort and grab a goal. Either that or he just lost his confidence and was just frightened of defenders, but he barely had any pressure on him the past two years at the club, everyone had already accepted what a flop he really was, already was anyway.

I can't believe he got more minutes than Ba last season, fair enough Torres is more talented but Ba wouldn't give up on the ball for a second, he literally chased chances, Torres wouldn't score a goal like Ba did against PSG in a million years, Torres would be stood behind a defender and got beat.

Its all good Slawth haha I'm not saying he was ever our hardest working player but I do think he tried and ultimately it was his ability that was lacking rather than the effort. I also think he proved he didn't have an amazing footballing brain because he pretty much lost everything that he did well, pace, touch and finishing all went.

I do agree that Ba should have played more last season, who knows had he we may have won the league.

Beating Liverpool at Anfield goes down as the best moment of Chelsea's year in 2014! The build up to this game was ridiculous from a Liverpool perspective. The media lovefest and the supreme confidence they would win the title and do it against us got on my nerves big time. When Stevie G slipped that made my dream come true and that second goal by Willian assisted by Torres was absolutely amazing. Liverpool haven't been the same club performance wise since that day and the Crystal Palace game finished them off confidence wise. They've lost that belief and motivation to do it all over again.

Beating Arsenal 6-0 in Arsene's 1000th game in charge of the club was glorious especially since Mourinho and Wenger have had a long feud with one another. After all Wenger is a "specialist in failure' according to Jose and this game totally demonstrated that.

Even though no trophies were won this year this has been the best performing Chelsea team in terms of consistency and ruthlessness in all competitions since 2010 when we did the double under Carlo Ancelotti.
