The Guardian's Top 100 Footballers in 2014

The Guardian's annual list of the year's best players compiled by ex players and journalists alike.

The lot of the list is up with the remaining players set to be put up by Christmas eve.

As always there are a few inclusions that are questionable, Casillas being the one that most bemuses me.

The rankings themselves also like all lists have plenty of room of debate, our very own Dave is ranked lower than fellow full back Dani Alves for example.

So far in the top 50 Chelsea have Dave (90) Terry (69) Ivanovic (53) Matic (48) and Oscar (46).

We might have another four more to go I would imagine with Hazard, Courtois, Fabregas and Costa at the very least surely to be included.

And there might be a place for Cech on there too, especially if Casilias made it.

So what do we all think, especially of the Chelsea player rankings?

One of the international journalists involved in the voting process was:

• Diego ‘Chavo’ f**ks - Argentinian football writer

This made me laugh a lot more than it should have.

The rankings make me cringe. And make you lose respect for the mental faculties of those who contributed (one of whom was Crespo!). As you point out, the inclusion of Alves and Casillas is a joke.

Last year, they had Hazard at number 100.

EDIT: I see they have Ozil at 51. Beyond belief.

Hazard's ranking at number 100 is a bit of a running joke in the comments section, for whatever reason he was criminally underrated in the voting last season.

Like most lists of this nature a lot of players get in based on reputation alone, how a player like Falcao who has hardly played this past calender year can be deemed the 64th best player is puzzling.

You know what player always seems to be underrated by fans and the media, PETR CECH!

I rarely ever see Cech get the same kind of praise that players like Casillas and Buffon have gotten in the last decade and he has been as good if not better than both of them. He's always been a better goalkeeper than Casillas that's for sure.

Just had a quick look, my opinions;

Overrated on the list: Muller, Neymar, Rodriguez, Mascherano, Van Persie, Ozil, Falcao, Dzeko, Ramsey, Totti, Slippy G, Casillas and did I really just see Jack Wilshere rated the 91st best player in the world lol.

Neuer is NOT the 3rd best player in the world, that is ridiculous. He's a very good goalkeeper but come on, he isn't that great. Just because he charges out of the area people think he is some sort of superstar, personally i think it shows how weak the German league is that they can't see the obvious weakness in what he does.

People are just desperate to put a goalkeeper among the top players in the world.

And seeing so many defenders rated higher than Terry is ridiculous too. There is no way that Macherano, Thiago Silva, Ramos, Godin, Kompany, Hummels, Alaba, Ivanovic, Boateng and Zabaleta are better than Terry.

Manuel Neuer could easily go down as the greatest goalkeeper of all time. I have no problems with him being at No.3.

No chance, i see him getting beaten by shots too easily at times.

Can you show me some examples? Personally, I think he's great at all the normal keeper stuff but what he brings other than that is what makes him one of the best of all time for me. People say its a risky style, but he's 28 now, has won everything there is to win, and hardly made an error. If he keeps it up, for me he will be the best goalkeeper of all time.

Wow some o his touches are incredible for a goalkeeper. And I can't believe how many time he's SO far from the box almost at the half way line

He made a defense with Mertesacker in it look good playing a high line.
