Daredevil - Netflix

Anyone watching or completed this series yet?

For me one of the best comic TV adaptions to date.

Some of the action sequences are simply outstanding while the acting is a genuine surprise given what I thought I'd get with this, gutted the second series is a bit away but will be worth the wait.

I'm a big Vincent D'Onofrio fan, and he got rave reviews for his performance of the Kingpin. I have never heard of Daredevil, and I found most comics-turned-movies ridiculous and boring (although admittedly I haven't seen that many), but for Daredevil I may subscribe to Netflix.

He's superb in Daredevil, a giant man child who is visibly battling to contain his supressed rage at all times.

Adds a lot of depth to a comic book villain that's missing from most adaptations.

It's exceptionally good. D'Onofrio is magnificent and gives a brilliantly nuanced performance.

It's fabulously gory as well which lends the action a really physical, visceral aspect you don't get in other comic book adaptations.

One of the best things on Netflix.

I've watched it all and was massively impressed. I'm a big comic book fan and thought this is right up there in terms of adaptations.

As Blue Daze says the way they decided to make it so gory and more extreme than other comic book adaptations massively add to it.

Kingpin is right up there as probably the best villain in the Marvel universe so far.

Highly recommended to anyone even if you're not a massive comic book fan.

I just finished this. Can't help but agree with most of the comments, such a well written and produced TV show. It shows what Marvel can do, even if you cut out the violence it would still be very good. Kingpin is such a good villian because he's given time to show why we should care about him.

Brilliant show.

9.5/10 for me, the 0.5 is because I prefer the gear he was using before he put on that suit!

  • 2 weeks later...

I too have just finished this.

What an unexpected delight! A dark, unflinching, gory, well-written and acted TV series. Was gripped throughout.

Charlie Cox (another Brit flying the flag as an American superhero!) is perfect as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. And I've been a big fan of Deborah Ann Woll since I saw her in True Blood. D'Onofrio is the icing on the cake, he brings gravitas to the role of Fisk, making me feel sorry for him at times, especially when you see the flashback episodes and what happened to his dad. But at the same time he is just a monster.

Netflix are doing a superb job with their "original" series. £6 a month is an absolute steal for the quality of their content!

Need series 2 now!

It's not better than Arrow season two though. Plus let's not forget Daredevil has a much bigger budget and doesn't have the restraint of a TV show given they have to have 23 episodes and an age restriction. Daredevil had the backing of the machine that is Marvel and Netflix.

Daredevil starts well but towards the end it all starts to feel abit samey and I thought the final episode was abit of a letdown.

Best superhero TV right now is easily the Flash.

I'm halfway through season 2 of Arrow and it's been pony... The plot just isn't moving anywhere, everything is reactionary.

Daredevil being only 13 episodes was great because there was no filler, the whole thing was constantly driving forward the overall narrative.

Does Daredevil have a bigger budget than Arrow? Can't say I really remember many elaborate set pieces or many special fx, season one of Arrow had constant SFX such as the Queen boat sinking and Starling City sinking into the holes at the end of the season on top of the various location shoots.

Yes Daredevil does have a bigger budget per episode which is why they're able to afford a bigger calibre of actor and more locations etc.

I agree that 13 episodes is better but the network that Arrow is in need a 22-23 episode season to make money otherwise they would lose money. The filler stuff is annoying at times but it's part of been on a network rather than Netflix.

Disagree Arrow season two especially second half is the best superhero TV I've watched. But each to their own.

It's not that what bothers me, I can get away with really far fetched shows, like Banshee for instance,  but if the acting is crap and the story is very teenagerish I just an't get away with it.

It's a reason why I don't watch a lot of super hero tv shows, it is always aimed at teenagers so it always has the cheesy storylines and everyone in the show is a model.

I'm going to give this show a try though, I like what I've heard so far.
