June 16, 201511 yr Author Yup. Then again why entertain it when you could have someone who costs 3 times the wage, scored 14 goals less and used to be good... I laughed too. It's not even a contest is it, Charlie Austin scored 18 goals and got 11 assists in a team as sh*t as QPR. Falcao scored 4 goals at Man United (unsure on assists). Falcao is also 29, non homegrown and his wages will be massive. Austin is 25, homegrown and wages will not be massive. Also to bear in mind Austin could be resold in a few years and been English we'd probably still get a decent amount for him. Now I know Falcao is a loan but I can bet his wages near the transfer fee of Austin who would have some resale value in future (for those saying yeah but we wouldn't get the whole amount back well if we get three years good service then we get what we paid for and any amount is additional funds in future). June 16, 201511 yr The point is he is a tap in man remi does that and far more, so why do we need him what dues he offer different? Whereas falcao is a longer shot but if it pays off could be deadly and if not it's a loan
June 16, 201511 yr Really hope this isn't true. I would be happy going into the season with Costa, Falcao and Remy.
June 16, 201511 yr Would going into the new season with a strike force of Costa, Falcao and Austin be an improvement or step back on Costa, Remy and Drogba?

Whereas falcao is a longer shot but if it pays off could be deadly and if not it's a loan I'd rather take a gamble on Falcao maybe being good enough versus Austin who will likely never be good enough.
June 16, 201511 yr Author I'd rather take a gamble on Falcao maybe being good enough versus Austin who will likely never be good enough. I think right now there's more chance of Austin been good for us than Falcao.
June 16, 201511 yr I think right now there's more chance of Austin been good for us than Falcao. Let's just hope our new signing is more of a falcon than a foul cow!
June 17, 201511 yr Author Another point l will add is this Austin scored 18 goals and got 11 assists in the leagues worst team does anyone think Falcao would have done that at QPR? Cause I certainly don't.

Not a good argument that bobby to be fair. Plenty of top players would struggle for poor teams, who barely have possession. I like the look of Austin but like kane, I would like to see him do it for another season. There is probably more hate for falcao than love judging by the forum. I hope and expect he will get good support from the stands though, and I hope we really get behind him. At the very least he will his arse off like Sheva did, unfortunately you can't say the same about torres.
June 17, 201511 yr Author I think it's a very valid argument Falcao was playing in a better team and got nowhere near the state Austin did. Austin played in the league worst team, question was would Falcao have done better it the same as Austin did at QPR? I don't think he would have
June 17, 201511 yr Not a good argument that bobby to be fair. Plenty of top players would struggle for poor teams, who barely have possession. I like the look of Austin but like kane, I would like to see him do it for another season. The thing I don't get is, why Austin? If we have to buy someone who's English and not Falcao, why not Berahino? He's younger, scored just 4 fewer goals but took 44 less shots last season whilst also creating more chances for his teammates. Just looking at some stats though, Falcao created the most chances last season per 90 minutes out of himself, Austin, Berahino and Costa as well as successfully taking on his player the most as well. But back to Austin, why?
June 17, 201511 yr Author Why? Because he's a proven goal scorer and would be cheaper than Berahino aswell. Stats are above as I said.
June 17, 201511 yr Why? Because he's a proven goal scorer and would be cheaper than Berahino aswell. Stats are above as I said. Pesky stats!
June 17, 201511 yr Why? Because he's a proven goal scorer and would be cheaper than Berahino aswell. Stats are above as I said. Austin scored a few more goals from a lot more shots, created far less chances, actually got just 5 assists in the league and their prices have both been quoted around the £15-20 million mark. Berahino however is still only 21, has an exceptional record at international age group level and arguably has a lot more potential. If you must use stats then how about comparing what they were both doing at age 21? Austin was hitting 12 goals in League One for Swindon. Berahino was hitting 14 goals in the Premier League for West Brom. So again, why Austin?
June 17, 201511 yr Yawn this is going nowhere in that case why anyone then? Because they offer us value in terms of what they could give us now or possess potential to be better in the long-term, all with minimum exposure to risk.
June 17, 201511 yr Author Because they offer us value in terms of what they could give us now or possess potential to be better in the long-term, all with minimum exposure to risk. Austin is 25 and scores goals he could score a ton of goals for us and if he didn't after one year we could sell and get a good fee for him. I really don't think it's that much of a risk.

I really don't think it's that much of a risk. One good season in the top league at the age of 25 is a massive risk in my opinion. We'll just have to agree to disagree but I've seen so many strikers in the Premier League like Charlie Austin who have one good season, go to a slightly bigger club and never really reach those heights again. I like the bloke and I wish him the best but I've seen nothing from him that is anymore exceptional than what Darren Bent or Andy Johnson or Marcus Stewart did at equally poor clubs.
June 19, 201511 yr Odds slashed to lower than 2/1 that Austin will sign for Chelsea following a large influx of bets in the last 24 hours. Does it mean something? Probably not but what else are we going to talk about with no football on? I suppose we could argue about Willian's lack of goals and whether Mikel actually does a good job or not, those are always fun.
June 19, 201511 yr [quote but what else are we going to talk about with no football on? Women's England v Colombia was cracking!
June 19, 201511 yr Women's England v Colombia was cracking! I have over the years tried to watch women's football on a quite a few occasions and I've always been bored. As a rule unless it's Chelsea playing and I'm emotionally invested in it I can't watch it. I enjoy later stages of the Champions League games because they're generally quite tense but normally it's Chelsea or nothing for me.
June 19, 201511 yr /\ Our Chelsea gals are worth a watch, but the women's football has been inconsistent, the above game was enjoyable though.
June 19, 201511 yr From Costa Remy Drogba to Costa Falcao Austin I don't know about anyone else but i think this would make our front 3 weaker. Edited June 19, 201511 yr by Scott Harris
