The quest for the safety of 40 points

Never thought I would ever have to make one of these threads on here.

As it stands, 16 games played and 15 points on the board, we are 39% on the way to safety, with 22 games left to play.

40 points is all I want. How the mighty have fallen.

I will update % status as we go, and we can raise a drink IF we get to 40 points.

Merry Christmas.

By mathmatical calculation, we should hit 38pts, give or take a win or more likely 3 loses..

Still, I have lost the will to watch much more of this quagmire of a season.

Imagine if it got to the last game of the season and we needed a win to stay up, at home to Leicester...The excitement would be tremendous.

Would be even more exciting if they needed a win to lift the PL trophy!!

f**k me, are we in some kind of parallel universe right now?

A few of thoughts on all this and I'm not really sure they fit in this thread but I don't want to start another thread to say it.

1) I always look for the 40 point mark as the first challenge of the season - this year though it's with a genuine eye on the relegation fight, the likes of which we haven't seen for years.

2) I'm sick and tired of hearing players come out in the press and say the right things, Cesc' turn today.  Shut the f**k up and do your job.  Stop telling me what you all need to do and go out there and do it.

3) Jose; I don't think he can turn it around - I hope he does before he's sacked but he looks totally lost and is talking sh*te at every interview.  More importantly though and I'm pretty sure we've discussed this before but how can someone who fails miserably at the job they're paid to do get paid so much when they're sacked?  Is it something the board should be looking to address in future contracts - set very specific and time-based goals, ie.  if after 90 days of the season the team have only gained x points, you will forfeit y% of your payoff should the board decide to dismiss you.???

Spot on. I head Fabregas as well today on the radio. Yeah, great - all well and good, but talk is cheap.

And how the club (not just Chelsea, ANY club) keep giving managers such huge pay-offs to sack them and find someone better is beyond me. Right now, the board should be in negotiations with Jose to say, look, we wont sack you but you get us out of this mess and now sign this which says if you don't, you leave without a penny. If he's as good as he says he is, he'll sign.

mainly because he loves the fans.

He's told us that many times, I don't really want him to love me but just to show me some respect.[/quote

That post was directed at Zola's question on why Jose would give up millions of pounds on his existing contract.

Good post Barn.  My ambition every season is to get enough points to avoid relegation.  Always has been and always will be.  Quite fancy a decent FA cup run as well, but never expect or demand it. Anything above that is a bonus.  Gotta agree about 2, just do your f**king jobs, boys!

Not so sure about the first bit of 3 - I think he can turn it round, and should be given the season, whatever happens, but I don't run the club.  Don't agree about the talking sh*te part, though, I think he is struggling to find the words to explain why the Champions are struggling so badly.  I am never sure about the whole concept of paying off somebody's contract in the way that football does.  Normal employment contract law is very much along the lines of "There is a disciplinary procedure defined, and, if your work performance falls short of the required level, that procedure is invoked.  Normally, several layers of discussion, verbal then written warnings to give the employee the opportunity to improve their performance, or identify that the role is above their level of ability"  Patently, Jose's level of ability is more than adequate to win the Premier League and many other competitions, so it won't be that.  We sack him and we lose part of our soul, this time, I think.

  • 1 month later...

Little bumperama on this one, whisper it quietly, we'll be ok.

Last time I posted on this we had played 16 games and yielded a terrifying 15 points on the board, with 22 games left to play.

As it stands we have played 23 games and have 28 points, 15 games left, 60% to safety! ;)
