I don't like judging on pre-season, but Matic has shown zero signs of recapturing his old form. Can't defend, pass or do anything really...looking forward to Kante.

Aina still very raw but looks a great talent, still not sure about this 442 really don't think it suits us we really are struggling to keep possession barring that 10 minutes of real quality.

Reminds me a little of when Ancelotti played his 442 diamond and ended up changing to 433 and never looked back.

 

No focal point at all. Matic seems to forget his responsibilities and the extent of his passing/dribbling skill... Guess it's hard to stay back when both flanks are staying wide and bombing forward, as are Costa/Bertrand, all leaving Fabregas exposed with little to work with.

 

Either get a third man in midfield, or just bring Hazard on to dictate play with Fabregas.

Going back to your comment - when did Ancelotti switch to a 4-3-3 in 09/10? I'm sure we played diamond with Anelka/Drogba - Lampard/Deco/Essien/Ballack for most of his first season, until Drogba went to Africa Cup if I remember correctly? I do remember 433 failing big time in his second season.

Costa should be hooked before Traore.

All he's done is moan and been annonymous all game.

Can't remember exactly but pretty sure it didn't take too long to change maybe about 10 or so games in with Anelka Drogba and Malouda up front.

I've defended our pre season form a lot this year but as the players get fitter & we edge ever closer to the start of the season I am beginning to worry that our performances don't seem to be improving whatsoever.

I think we really need to press on in the transfer market before the season starts or we're in big trouble with that defence and Matic in the middle.

This is worryingly bad.
