Chelsea attire at games

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It's been a while since I have posted.

Just wanted some opinions about wearing Chelsea kit to games.

How many of you feel that generally speaking you are more inclined to see tourists and one off game attendees wearing Chelsea shirts, gloves (full kit w**ker) attire in comparison to season ticket holders in the Matthew Harding stand for example?

My feeling is that generally speaking more of the longer standing and more frequent attendees tone down their look. Perhaps wear a polo and jeans for example.

It would be great to hear your opinions.

Joey

Each to their own but imo wearing a club shirt to games should stop when you reach your late 20s early 30s, there's something about blokes wearing shirts to games in their 40s/50s that make them look immature for want of a better word & its even worse when they also have a players name or silly slogan on the back, "WE 8 SPURS" for example.

It goes in line with also getting to a certain age & taking any earrings out, nothing worse than blokes in their 40s/50s still wearing earrings.

Think wearing leisure wear like a polo top or fleece/jacket is ok as its a bit more suttle, i'll wear a polo to work or when food shopping with the mrs but thats it.

Personally i wear casual gear with a Chelsea pin badge to games.

It also comes down to era you were bought up in and started attending games, I started going early 80's, so match going clothes were Pringle/Lyle and Scott jumpers, tachini/fila/ellesse track tops, Lois cords etc, nowadays its Same, nice jumper or polo and always a small pin badge, my two sons now 20 and 22 used to wear replica shirts till about 14 now its old skool 80's casual look, lads who started going in 90's I think, got in all the euro 96 hype, and football is trendy stuff and football shirts were the thing, have to say away games our support looks better the less replica shirts about in my view, probably an era thing again, I will wear an old replica or retro shirt if I'm out running, washing car or BBQ but games its a no no for me, arsenal support is a posh boy rugby crowd and they look sh*te in those bloody bar scarfs etc

I've seen this discussion on a few forums, some people want to abuse those who wear shirts, I don't no idea why, it seems to have become popular and cool to bash shirt wearers. I collect football shirts, I have many rare ones and where them occasionally, I've worn them to games, then again I probably wouldn't wear them in a few years time. I have nothing against people wearing them past their 30's, as long as they support the team, I couldn't care less.

Always thought it was somewhat strange people look down on adults wearing football shirts. The full kit is ridiculous but here in the states I'd say at least half the crowd at any sporting event, football, soccer, baseball will be wearing the teams top.

that's always been the case for just about every club back home. im still relatively young at 27 but i always noticed that when i used to go to games with my dad and his group of friends (generally that entire crowd) were always in casual clothing unless it was day out at a cup final.

contrast that with the fact that now i live in australia and the culture here is a lot different, adults (doesn't matter the age) almost always were club shirts, and even a cap or a beanie. at least something related to the team they support not just at the game, but on the street during the week as well lol and its not just a football thing, they do it in all sports. i think they have a similar culture in north america

Depends for me, i will wear a shirt if Im at a home game with my dad or missus as I have a ton of shirts that I collect and I like to wear them to games. I used to wear them to aways when I was younger as me and a group of mates found it an easy way to get "in trouble". Thankfully I grew out of that behaviour and now just wear casual attire away

@MTF thats interesting about Australia. Sounds very similar to here in the states especially on non game days where loads of people still wear gear when going out in public. Maybe we don't have to worry about as much blowback wearing it around town because there are usually no other teams to support in one place whereas if you wear an Arsenal shirt around London every other person you meet could take the piss.

We were out shopping today and had to give a double take when we saw a chap, must be in his mid 60,s walking around the shop with a full England kit on boots and all. Don't think there were any health issues but really really odd to see

Sounds like you spotted a wild Rooney

The Chelsea jersey makes for good summer wear, nice and light. I'm assuming that the comment on over 50s is coming from younger people. We don't change that much as we go through life, as I hope you'll find out. I wear mine when I attend matches.

I just wore our away shirt for my workout. Like you said: nice and light. Doesn't chafe or absorb sweat.

Since 1997.....I always wear the same shirt for all Chelsea matches that I attend......it's a button down collar in Royal Blue in good quality thick cotton.......after 20 years of wearing it....its become my tradition to wear it.....and it's my lucky shirt ! .....for example, this last season I wore it to each of the 12 matches I attended and Chelsea won all of them !
