Was reading the Follow Follow Forum (a Rangers Fans Forum) earlier today and someone had started a thread about Rangers who had played in three different decades. Got me thinking: can we name Chelsea players who played for the club for three decades. Could be continuous e.g. Ron Harris (1961 to 1980) or players who played, left and then came back e.g. John Hollins.

That's a couple of players to start with. Can we think of others?

Terry is an obvious one.

John Hollins must have played late 60,s 70,s and early 80,s ..... That's me done

Sorry Boyne I just noticed you actually mentioned Hollins ,I was being a bit thick there !

Peter Bonetti was one year out! 1960-1979 with that little break in the middle. 

Wise (but for Wimbledon in the 80s).

Kevin Hitchcock 1988-2001 !

I was actually checking when John Hollins played for us. It was 1962-75 then 1983-84.

Graeme Le Saux ? 80s, 90s and 2000s

Had Alan Hudson made one appearance during that second spell he would have counted

John Bumstead 1978-1991 - 339 appearances and 38 goals.

Good shout. I showed this to our old trainer Jimmy Hendrie- he went on to say Johnny B was one of the fittest players he worked with. Could run all day and strong as an ox. He went on to add that one of the best man marking jobs he ever saw was Bumstead against Gascogne at his very peak. Very few people could subdue Gazza but our man did just that

I didn't see much of Jonny B as he was nearing the end at Chelsea though he did score the odd important goal.

1987-93 and 1997-03.

Dick Steele from 1934-1950. He played 246 times scoring 65 goals. That won't, i m sure include appearances during World War 2 which were unofficial.

Amazing thing about this forum- 99.9 per cent of Chelsea fans including me have never heard of Dick Steele never mind learn that he was a decent servant to the club
