Thomas Tuchel

Featured Replies

Reports in Germany this week, mainly Bild's chief football writer Christian Falk are claiming that Thomas Tuchel has, at some point, held talks with Chelsea, specifically Marina Granovskaia, about taking over from Conte in the summer.

He's also been heavily link with succeeding Wenger as well with Germany's Kicker going so far as to say it's done.

Tuchel fell out with Dortmund over their transfer policy, mainly about selling so many of their high profile players such as Hummels, Gündogan, and Mkhitaryan. Given that Conte has had a running feud with our board about transfers could be Tuchel isn't exactly a "safe" choice in that regard.

Don't know much about his playing style etc. having not really watched his sides so not sure what we could expect were he to be appointed.

You could safely expect him to be sacked within a couple of years.

I dont know too much about him. Football fans from all across the board seem to think he's an exciting young manager with a high level of ability. He looks up to Pep and Klopp's style of play, and he integrates youth too. Dortmund fans have mentioned how good he had them playing and competing with Bayern, even though they lost 3 of the their best players in Mkitaryan, Gundogan and Hummels. I don't think he would have the same issue of losing players at Chelsea. We have never particularly been a selling club. I think he may be the best option if we don't make top four. Luis Enrique will want too much money, and if we aren't in top four will he want to manage a club not in CL after spending two successful seasons at Barcelona? He could go to PSG or Bayern if he wanted with his resume.

Another AVB waiting to happen. He'd require wholesale change to the way we have played for 15 years. We don't have the squad for it. We're porous even with a deeper block. The Tuchel approach with our squad would be a disaster.

Football hipsters need to be wary of play that looks attractive but has yielded no trophies. It took Guardiola himself 500m in players to get to where they are. Poor imitations of that style with no money will struggle.

I don't know much about tuchel tbh, but I would to see us change our style a bit. Avb was a disaster because if the way he went about implementing that change, and also because changing didn't benefit our big players. I don't think tuchel will meet as any where near as much resistance.

I don't know whether he is the right man for the job, but having to make wholesale changes to this squad shouldn't be a reason not to bring in fresh ideas.

We have made huge changes to the squad over conte's 2 seasons, but we haven't made the most out of the money spent.

Surely we could put a squad together capable of playing in any managers style. As much money as city have spent, there was only 3 guardiola signings that played regularly during that win streak, Ederson, Walker, Sane.

Most our squad are more than capable of playing in various styles as they have done so already with us, their previous clubs, and their national teams.

I keep hearing this excuse when we get linked to managers like Sarri and Tuchel, how AVB was disaster and it would be a similar scenario for other managers who played attacking football.

Firstly AVB isn't much of a great manager, apart from dominating with a seriously talented Porto side he's done f**k all in his career, his last two stints have been in Russia and China. He's not a top manager so he was always going to fail at Chelsea regardless of the style of play, secondly he was a bit of a fool and went up against the likes of Terry, Lampard and Drogba, it was never going to end up well for him

Secondly our squad right now is more than capable of playing attacking football, looking at our players we have quite a few technically gifted players, in defence Azpi, Christensen, Luiz and Alonso all have good technique. In midfield Fabregas is one of the most technically gifted players in the world and even Barkley has good technique and is a very good dribbler. Then you have the likes of Hazard, Willian and Morata who are all technically gifted

While we'd need a few changes in our squad if we brought in Tuchel or someone similar to him we wouldn't need huge changes.

For instance, if we replaced an ageing Cahill with someone like Alderweireld who looks likely to leave Spurs, brought in someone like Julian Weigl from Dortmund in midfield and replaced Pedro for someone like Bailey we'd have a squad easily capable of adapting to a more possession based, attacking team

............................Courtois...............................

Azpi..........Christensen..Alderweireld........Alonso

......................Weigl/Fabregas.........................

................Barkley..............Kante......................

Bailey/Willian...........Morata....................Hazard

Rummenigge (Bayern): "Thomas Tuchel told us that he has already signed for another club. That is ok.“ [Sky Germany]

I know there were rumours that Marina was impressed with him but would find it difficult to believe that the club have already signed him up while Conte is still here.

But then you look at Conte's body language, especially compared to last season and you have a man that knows he's not going to be around next season

There's been a few reports from pretty reliable sources saying that at some point Tuchel has met with our board and now there's reports saying that Tuchel has already signed with a club for next season
