April 2, 20188 yr Lately, we've been linked with him. What do you think of him as a player? I can say that he is a good leader. Your opinions?
April 2, 20188 yr Decent enough defensively but if squawka can be used as a basis for assessing a player a "2" possession score suggests he isn't what we need (his total score of 294 is okay but not great considering Zouma plays for Stoke and his score is 446). He'd perhaps be a good homegrown backup for Rudiger/replacement for Cahill, but for me it would still be further confirmation that we're becoming a bang average tinpot club. April 2, 20188 yr i really don't see the point of this signing. While he's decent he's 25 next season and isn't going to get much better. He's also not exactly better than what we already have Sadly, this the exactly the type of signing we have a habit of making these last few years. Average, doesn't improve our first 11 and English

While Cahill gets a lot of hate, he's always been a very good defender and was also an England International. He only cost us 7 million He may well be a good player but he'd cost us 30 million and wouldn't improve our first 11. I guess i'm just tired of us buying squad fillers instead of actually looking to buy top players who improve us If we really want a CB then why not look at Toby Alderweireld? He will only have 1 year left on his contract and is unhappy at Spurs. If he has desires to stay in London then move might just be possible, he may cost around 50 million but we'd be adding a world class defender who would be a great partner for Christensen

Chelsea also have a strange addiction with signing English players all of a sudden. Dunno why we don't just use our academy players if that's the case tbh.

I think it has to do with homegrown rules and we might be losing Cahill come summer. I agree that we should be using our academy players, and you just wonder if Ake, Chalobah and RLC could have done any worse than Drinkwater & Barkley who have hardly made any impact.

This has been my issue since the summer. When you look at the English players we have brought in, could our own boys not have done as good of a job? Drinkwater - Chalobah would have done a much similar 'no nonsense' simple job. Probably less well rounded but we've hardly used Drinkwater this year anyway. Barkley - Hardly played and shocking injury record since here. RLC could have filled his role on the medical table and offered more when actually on the pitch. Zappacosta - Although not English, could Aina not have played the role and saved us £30m in the process whilst adding an English player?

I doubt it.. For me, if we are planning on buying a CB it should be someone that's actually better than what we have. Right now we have Rudiger, Zouma, Luiz, Cahill and Christensen. Lascelles for me isn't better than any of those so would be a pretty pointless signing. You're spot on in regards to using our academy products instead of paying out big money for average players. Instead of spending 25 million on Zappacosta we should have kept Ola Aina around, instead of spending 35 million on Drinkwater we should have kept Chalobah around and instead of spending 40 million on Bakayoko we should have kept RLC around We should have saved ourselves a ton of money and been able to properly integrate these players into our squad

In all honestly I like the Barkley signing, he was ridiculously cheap and has the potential to be a very good player for us. He stagnated in the last few years but under the right manager and in the right conditions I think he could thrive for us
April 3, 20188 yr haven‘t seen much of him, but i read some articles claiming he could be the new terry for us concerning leadership skills and tough defending. can anybody tell more about him and if he really has that skills?

If he was going to be the next Terry, he would already be at a top club.

Reports that he's a big personality and takes preparing a team into his own hands and give them the morale lift they need.

If he's been touted as the next JT, then surely he would be at a bigger club and playing for England. Especially as he is already 24!

April 3, 20188 yr Seems a waste of time really. We have 5 centre backs for potentially 2 positions. This feels like another step towards mediocrity from the club so I expect this transfer to happen.
