Heck of a risk...but he's fast. He's English. He scores goals. And if he could stay fit he's probably the sort of player who could set the world on fire playing in the hole behind Drogba...

He'd be a wonderful addition to the squad if he was even close to what he was before the injuries, but he seems so fragile that it would be too much of a risk IMO. Even if he could stay injury free(for most of the season at least), who knows if he still has the thing that made him a the European player of the year.

Micheal Owen?

Hmmmm, lets see.. For a fee of around ?8/9m: Yes.

His best years are almost certainly behind him, but if fit, will guarantee 20 goals a season. However, our midfield would have to wisen up if they were to actually create chances for him.

The 'big man (Drogba) little man (Owen)' combo could work quite nicely.

I would have my doubts that Sam Ava'slice would actually let him go though?

First thing you would do as a new manager, would be to hold on to your best players, surely? Especially quality Strikers that are few and far between.

From the few brief clips I saw of him on MOTD last weekend, he looked pretty sharp considering the length of time he was out injured. IF he was fully fit next season and manages to remain injury fee, then I agree he could well be a valuable addition to the squad. How old is he now? He seems to have been around for ever because he was so young when he made his League and England debuts. I think he'd work better alongside Drogba than Sheve ever did, and could be valuable cover for when Drogba is away at the African Cup of Nations. It's a possibility.

He'd play about 2 games, then be out injured for months - and the pattern will probably stay the same for the rest of his career.

I never rated him all that highly anyway, and he's also a cheating diving c*nt.............so, you may be surprised to hear that my answer is an emphatic NO!!!B)

No thanks. I expect there is another injury just waiting to happen.

Would much rather we got Defoe - I think he and Drogba would really work well together.

Please not Defoe.

No to Owen as well. Not that I don't rate him, but I don't think he would fit in well with the rest of our team.

At the moment, if we did want to play 2 up and Sheva was on his way out then I think Tevez would work well with Drogs. He has had a year to settle in and looks pretty good to me.

If Owen was to leave Newcastle it would be a kick in the teeth for the fans (and board) who really would have ever right to be pissed off having helped him though his rehabilitation.

But a fully fit Owen ? Well if we could get a guarantee he wouldnt pick up a serious injury id take him in a heartbeat.

Sadly you cant, and he would.

Owen is/was a high calibre player and at ?9million he does look a bargain, but there are other strikers I'd take before him; Villa, Tevez, Berbatov I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any at the moment. For similar money you can also get Bent (Darren) and I'd say he'd probably be better value than Owen right now.

you wouldn't get anyone in that list for 9 million though.

I know, my point was if we could sign any of the others for however much they cost.

The only downside to Owen is his injuries.

He is still young, English and very talented.

For ?9m i'd take him, no question about it. We'd spent far much money on far worse players in the past.

Out of that list, i would have to say Eto or Berba.

Either of those would equal instant goals, however, i suspect it would all be plain sailing with one of them..

No prizes for guessing.

Ok mate, well any of the players you have mentioned are pretty damn good. My take is that it looks like Berbatov is not for sale at any price, that can change if a big enough offer is tabled though. Tevez looks good, on recent form, but is rumoured to be a nightmare in the ego stakes, and Bent would have been one of my choices last season, before he got injured. Villa, is maybe the pick of the bunch, but the transfer fee could reach ridiculous heights, are we interested in signing players at any cost ?, maybe not anymore. There are bound to be plenty of others linked with us throughout the silly season (summer), I just hope that its tied up pretty early, if we do sign someone, so they have time to integrate well before next season starts.

The Guardian have done a piece on the 10 top strikers on sale this summer:

One of the comments on that article gave me a good laugh

Tevez:

Chelsea kidnap him and play him under a different name. FA promise to investigate at the end of the season. In the meantime Carlos Tovoz plays on.
